Tiffany Susan Pompoms; usually just called Susan;[7] was the last of the eight major characters to be introduced in EGS. Initially a friend of Sarah, Susan has developed friendships with all other major characters.

Susan lives with her mother in a three-story mansion[8] and works in Tensaided's video rental store (with Mr. Tensaided as boss).[9] Susan prefers and enforces the use of her middle name instead of her first name.[10] She does this to distance herself from a cheerleader stereotype, since she is a stalwart feminist,[11] and because it was her father that picked her first name.[7]

History[]

Backstory[]

As a child Susan caught her father cheating on her mother with a young blonde woman.[7][12] This incident caused Susan to dislike her own blonde hair[13] and she dyed it ever since to avoid similarity with the blonde woman.[7] Susan's mother told her that he did it because he was a man.[13]

During the summer after Susan's high school freshman year she went on a school trip to France with Nanase (after her mother browbeat the principal to allow Susan to go on the trip even though she was too young). Susan was attacked by an aberration[14] because of her magic affinity for summoning anti-aberration weapons but was saved by Nanase.[15] Two immortals (previous incarnations of Helena and Demetrius[16]) told Susan and Nanase about aberrations,[17] gave them magic, in Susan's case a magic mark allowing her to summon weapons, and taught them to summon the hammers,[18] and sent them to kill the aberration,[19] which Susan did.[20]

Sister[]

Susan first appeared on Tuesday, January 29 talking to Sarah about Elliot and how he introduced Sarah to his girlfriend, Nanase. Susan said that Sarah should be angry with Elliot but Sarah defended him.[21] After Elliot was turned into a girl, Susan asked him to sit with her for school lunch next day[22] and tried to recruit him into the school's feminist group. Elliot, who pretended to be his cousin, said that Elliot could join the feminist group but Susan refused because he is a man[11] and ranted about how men were awful using Elliot's recent actions as an example. Sarah told her to shut up[23] and took Elliot with her away from the table.[24]

The next day (January 31), when the Omega Goo attacked, Susan pulled the school's fire alarm to evacuate everyone,[25] then called Nanase to come and fight it.[26] When she told Sarah, Grace and Greg that Nanase would join them,[27] Sarah asked how she knew Nanase and Susan explained that she met Nanase during the trip to France. Then she asked how to destroy the Goo and Grace told her what she knew.[28] Susan was present during the fight and when the goo had Ellen and Nanase pinned, she summoned a sword[29] and tried to cut her way through the goo to rescue them.[30]

After the fight was over and Edward Verres, Tedd's father, had arrived, Susan was surprised when Elliot showed sensitivity by defending Ellen from what he thought would be incarceration.[31] Then Susan went to Edward and Tedd's house with the others.[32] Sarah again asked her about Nanase. Jeremy quickly found Susan and forced her to pet him[33] and slept on her lap.[34] She was trapped until Justin told her that cats prefer to be where they are least wanted. Taking this advice to its extreme, she expressed over-the-top affection toward Jeremy and succeeded in driving away not only the cat, but Justin as well.[35]

Lunchtable Revelations[]

Sometime in February, Sarah wanted to have lunch with Elliot at school so Susan and Tedd had to sit together but they couldn't get along.[36] Elliot asked them to share something about themselves to make Susan and Tedd less hostile to each other.[37] Tedd and Susan were reluctant to go along with it because of how they assumed each other to react.[38] When Tedd told the others what his glasses are, he let Susan try them[39][40] and told her that he had removed a setting that could see through clothes.[41] Susan revealed that her full name is Tiffany Susan Pompoms, she's a natural blond,[42] and her parents divorced after her father cheated on her mother.[7] /> Learning that both had divorced parents made Susan and Tedd friendlier[43] and later that day Susan hammered Tony when he pushed Tedd.[44]

Night Out[]

On March 1, when Susan was at the video rental store to ask Mr. Tensaided for her paycheck[9] she met Ellen, Justin and Nanase, who were there to rent a movie. Ellen invited Susan to watch the movie with them and Susan invited them to watch it at her house instead as she had a big TV set.[45] While Susan and Justin were looking for movies to rent, Justin was impressed that the store put even-numbered and odd-numbered Star Trek movies separately (it is widely held among Star Trek fans that most even-numbered movies are good and most odd-numbered movies are bad) and Susan revealed that it was her idea. She told Justin that she owned all of the Star Trek movies.[46] They couldn't find any movie they wanted to watch that she didn't own. Nanase and Ellen (who were looking for movies separately) couldn't decide which movie to rent so Susan suggested that they rent all movies that they were considering and spend the night at her house.[47]

When they arrived at Susan's house, her mother disapproved of Justin spending the night there and Susan defended him by claiming he was gay,[48] not knowing that he was.[49]

Before the movies were started, she asked Ellen to come to her room;[50] while there, she asked Ellen to transform her.[51] After she was transformed into the Venus form, which made her hair longer by adding undyed (and thus blonde) hair, she looked in a mirror and thought she was beautiful, which made her so distracted[52] that Ellen had to snap her out of it with a misogynistic insult.[53] She explained to Ellen that she thought the transformation would make her lesbian and wanted to test it as a solution to the pain of dealing with men.[54] Ellen convinced Susan that all the guys she knows personally have redeeming qualities, and also told her that the Venus form makes one bisexual and enhances their original preference,[55] so Susan asked Ellen to turn her back, only to find that reverting the spell removed her dyed hair and thus her hair was now blonde.[56] When she saw the others again, she was unhappy about Nanase sitting on the kitchen counter and scrubbed the counter. When Nanase asked Susan about her hair, she said it changed spontaneously.[57]

After the first movie was finished, Nanase asked Susan to talk privately.[58] When they got to Susan's room, Nanase complained about Ellen's pheromones attracting her.[59] Susan revealed that Tedd told her that Ellen does not release the special pheromones that attract people, implying that her attraction was genuine,[60] but also said that it was possibly due to confusion over the matter. After Nanase "went fairy-doll" on Susan,[61] Susan panicked and revealed their conversation to Ellen and Justin, the implication of which they had both already suspected.[62]

Painted Black[]

When Elliot was taken by Damien's men on the next day (March 2), Elliot's friends, including Susan, gathered at Tedd's house.[63] When Ellen explained how Elliot transformed during the fight, Susan correctly deduced the other form he can transform into (female) and mused on the implications for his relationship with Sarah.[64] After it was decided that Nanase and Ellen would accompany Grace to save Elliot, Susan was left behind and had her blonde hair braided by Justin.[65][66]

Sleepy Time and Red Alert[]

The night after the Damien incident Susan had a dream about her past. In her dream, Susan was a young girl who couldn't sleep one night. When she went to her father, she found him with a young blond woman.[12] When her mother got back the next day, she told her about it through tears.[67]

Because of the dream, Susan subsequently came to school on March 4 wearing a Star Trek shirt,[68] Sarah took this as a warning that she was upset because such shirts are like Susan's security blanket and she is highly irritable when upset.[69] When Tedd unintentionally provoked her with what he saw as friendly teasing, they got in a slap fight[70] that was broken up by the principal. When he learned that fight started because of the shirt he got an idea (to impose a school uniform policy[71]) and ran away in a flurry of activity. After Tedd expressed relief at not being in trouble, Susan said they were "at least out of the frying pan...".[72] After Tedd revealed that he thought their friendship is based on teasing Susan revealed indirectly that she had been dwelling on her dream. After hearing this, Tedd pledged to support her for at least for the time being and she accepted this pledge of support. Sarah and Elliot found this cute, which annoyed Susan.[73]

Before The Party[]

Next day (March 5), when Tedd invited her for Grace's birthday party, where they would change sexes,[74] Susan initially didn't want to go,[75] but had an internal mental debate[76] in which her curious side convinced her logical side and her to do it by arguing that she could find out whether men are as ruled by their physical desires as she thought.[77]

Next day, when the principal of Moperville North High revealed his plans to have school uniforms,[71] including skirts and vests for girls, Susan vocally opposed the idea[78] and outright refused to wear the girl's uniform.[79] She and Ellen was supposed to pick each other's clothes for the party but Susan didn't trust her fashion sense[80] so the day after the school uniform policy was announced (March 7) she arranged for Nanase to pick clothes for Ellen instead.[81] On the next day Susan tried to get a boy's uniform but the principal had had specifically forbidden it.[82] She ended up trading uniforms with Tedd, who already had clothes that fit the dress code but wanted a girl's uniform for the party.[83][84]

Grace's Birthday Party[]

On March 9, Susan arrived for the birthday party with Sarah.[85] She had a diary to take notes on her experiences as a man, as she wanted to find out how much she would be changed by her male nature while transformed.[86] After Nanase arrived she showed Susan the clothes she had picked for Ellen and was embarrassed that Ellen knew that she had picked them as she thought Susan would keep it secret from her.[87] Susan and Justin had bought a present for Grace together,[88][89] a catnip plant.[90]

When Tedd mentioned, while explaining how sex transformations of the transformation gun work, that female transformations would become permanent if the target becomes pregnant while transformed, Susan joked about Elliot helping Tedd become a woman permanently that way.[91] Then she asked Tedd why Female variant 5 makes people bisexual if already female and Tedd answered that it doesn't, which shocked Susan. That caused Nanase to realize why Susan became blonde previously.[92]

Susan asked to transform first of the women in order to write her diary. When she told Tedd about the diary, Tedd said that she might have an exaggerated reaction to the male form, which Susan took as making excuses for Tedd's usual gender.[93] Before Susan transformed, she wrote in her diary about her reason for transforming.[94] After transforming she wrote about feeling stronger, which took long enough that Grace became impatient.[95]After she left the transformation booth Grace made Susan's enhanced attraction to her more awkward by complaining about the nudity taboo.[96] When Grace asked about the reason for the nudity taboo, Susan explained it as discreetly as she could and when Grace understood what she meant, she was disgusted.[97]

When they went back to the others (all in female forms), they surrounded Susan to see her male form.[98] Susan experienced dirty thoughts about her friends. When Sarah asked Susan how it felt to be transformed, Susan said that she felt stronger and when Nanase wasn't impressed enough, Susan challenged her for arm wrestling.[99] Nanase won the arm wrestling with little effort.[100] When Susan complained to Sarah about losing and about being bothered about losing, Sarah said that she is always competitive.[101]

When Jeremy recognized Susan after her transformation, the cat was happy and lay down on her lap.[102] When Nanase came back after transforming, Susan complained about being trapped under Jeremy but Nanase suggested that she pick him up.[103] After Sarah and Grace left to transform, Elliot, Tedd and Susan raced to a sofa and Tedd ended up on top of Elliot, which caused Susan to tell them to "get a room".[104]

After everyone had transformed, Grace noted that Tedd seemed nervous when seeing her in a male form and Susan suggested that it was because Tedd was uncomfortable with seeing her girlfriend in a male form.[105] Later Jeremy left Susan's lap, which pleased her as she was no longer trapped.[106] When Nanase asked Tedd where he got his school uniform, Susan explained that they had traded uniforms.[84] She explained to Nanase that didn't want to wear a skirt and their discussion was overheard by Matt Cohen, who delivered food for the party at the time.[107]

Then she wrote in her diary again and realized that she had not changed quite as much as she had expected. She realized that men are not ruled by their physical desires, that her father's infidelity was due to his own conscious choice and not just because he was male. Before she had finished thinking about him, she was interrupted by Sarah, who told her to come back to the others[108] as they were going to sing karaoke.[109] When Grace mentioned that she had heard Tedd singing in the shower, Susan was displeased about Tedd showering in female forms.[110] Susan at first didn't want to sing but when all the others made puppy-dog eyes, she agreed to sing.[111] She was silent during part of the song so she got a low score.[112]

Then she tried to write more in her diary and saw what she had written about her father.[113] She recalled how her outlook on men originated from her mother's blame on her father's gender for his actions.[13] While she was looking for a place to be alone, she found Justin, who was sad.[114] She pushed aside thoughts about her parents and asked him what was wrong.[115] Justin told her that he was in love with Elliot and that he was outed as gay by someone he told in confidence.[116][117] Susan comforted Justin by pointing out that he was not alone[118] and impulsively kissed him in the process.[118] They were taking off their clothes but before they went too far a light went out[119] (actually it was the demonic duck who made it appear that the light had gone out with his illusion magic).[120] When Justin apologized for kissing her, Susan said that she thought she kissed him first and they laughed at their different perceptions, which defused the awkward situation.[121] Susan wrote in her diary that she and her father were responsible for their actions and that she didn't regret what she did given how it turned out.[120]

The After Party, Susan Draws The Line and Sister II[]

When Susan transformed back during the party her hair became partly blonde as the male transformation made her hair shorter and when it grew back to its original length, the new hair was undyed. The next day she enjoyed her new look for a while[122] but then her reflection reminded her of the woman she caught her father with so she decided to dye her hair again.[123][124]

Having traded uniforms with Tedd, Susan wore the boy's uniform to school on the next Monday (March 11).[125] One student who saw her announced to everyone who was nearby that she was going to do something about the uniforms.[126] The students were very enthusiastic.[127] She explained her plan to fight for the right for women to wear pants and make vests optional for both sexes.[128] Those who listened were furious that she didn't expect to have the dress code removed entirely and stopped supporting her, and many apparently decided that they hated feminism more than they hated the uniforms.[129] Then the principal, who believed that everything that she did was rebelling solely for the sake of rebelling, warned her that she would face disciplinary action.[130] When the principal allowed Sarah to wear her beret when she made puppy eyes at him, Susan glared angrily at her.[131]

Later that day many students hated Susan and she considered changing schools.[132] Elliot offered to support her and she noted that he would save his worst enemy.[133] Sarah had taken off her beret because she thought it bothered Susan but Susan told her that she wanted her to wear it as it showed how Sarah had managed to change the school policy. She told Elliot and Tedd not to tell Sarah that she considered leaving the school as she didn't want her to worry.[134] On the next meeting of the feminist club, the four members other than Susan, Catalina and Sarah declared that they left the club since they never cared about feminism and now they hated it because the rest of the school hated it.[135] Susan worried that the club would be banned because it was now too small but Catalina comforted her by saying that they could recruit more people[136] Then Catalina asked her out for a date[137] but Susan turned her down since she saw herself as straight.[138]

The next day, on her way to school, Susan daydreamed about the date she could have had with Catalina.[139] Tedd arrived at school wearing the vest of a girl's uniform[140] and publicly defended Susan by pointing out to the students that they were supposed to support partly the same cause as she did,[141] which convinced them not to bully her. Susan was tempted to hug him.[142] She was willing to let him and Elliot join the feminist society.[143] Liz joined the feminist club,[144] Sandi, one of those who left the club, apologized and re-joined it,[145] and Matt Cohen, head of the student council, offered to help them.[146]

When Elliot had changed into an unrecognizable female form on the same day, Tedd texted Susan about a girl wearing a boy's uniform[147] and Susan approached Elliot, who fled into the auditorium.[148] When Elliot came back, now in his normal form, Susan realized that he had been the girl she and Tedd had seen[149] and that the transformation was due to improper awakening and she texted Ellen as it might happen to her too.[150] She told Elliot, Tedd and Sarah that she had learned about improper awakenings during the trip to France and that Nanase was awakened and she herself became dreaming at the time but refused to tell them more.[151]

Later that day Susan met the principal, who again threatened her with disciplinary action and expressed his belief that everything she did was rebelling for the sake of rebelling.[152] Then Catalina told her that there was a news crew outside the school (because Carol wanted to cover the aftermath of the Bloodgrem attack[153]) and Susan dragged Catalina with her to them.[154] Thus Susan and Catalina were interviewed by Carol and they were able to voice their concerns to a larger audience.[155] After the interview Susan said to Catalina, regarding dating, that she wished things were different and that she wanted to do things such as going to movies together as friends.[156]

The next day the principal told her that the dress code would be lifted, only for the reason being related to laundry instead of sexism.[157]

Hammerchlorians[]

On April 2 Susan and Catalina visited Salty Crackers Comics, where Justin was working.[158] At the shop Larry said that Susan was an alien and Rich said that she was trying to breed human-alien hybrids.[159] When they talked about how an alien would seduce men, Susan tried to summon a hammer but it failed.[160]

Susan realized that the hammers had stopped working and she called Sarah to tell her.[161] She thought the artifact powering the hammers had been knocked over by an earthquake.[162] She decided to travel to the cave where the artifact powering the hammers was kept and Sarah invited Grace to accompany them. They set off next day (April 3).[163] While they were stopping at a restaurant on the way Susan talked about how long it would take to arrive and Grace realized that the earthquake couldn't have knocked over the artifact as it was too far away.[164] On the road Susan mentioned that the hammers were useful for slowing down a monster that she encountered in France and Sarah insisted that Susan should tell her and Grace what happened even though Susan was unwilling to tell them.[165]

When they arrived at a hotel that evening, Susan sprayed sanitizer all over the room. There were only two beds and Susan suggested that Sarah should share one with Grace. Grace stopped the argument by saying that she wouldn't need a bed as she could turn into a squirrel.[166] Then Susan explained to Grace and Sarah how she met Nanase and what happened in France, including an aberration attacking her[14] and two immortals sending Susan and Nanase to kill the aberration.[167][168]

Grace asked her what weapons she could summon so she showed her summoning ability and she discovered that her summoned copy of one of Nanase's fairy dolls acted as if it were alive.[169] The fairy doll fetched Susan's phone from her purse as Susan wanted to check if something had happened to Nanase. When she called her, Nanase said that the fairy doll was probably running on Susan's subconscious.[170] Susan didn't unsummon the fairy doll and Grace asked if she kept it summoned to let it show her feelings. Susan denied it and said that she was planning to sent the fairy doll into the cave to scout since Sarah was worried. When Grace called her concern for Sarah sweet the fairy doll hugged Sarah, which annoyed Susan.[171] Later before Susan went to bed, she unsummoned the fairy doll, which resulted in a noisy explosion.[172]

On April 5, after navigating a forest using GPS and her fairy doll Susan, Sarah and Grace found the cave at a park trail.[173] When they entered at the cave they found the artifact on its pedestal and met Jerry, the immortal who made the artifact.[174][175] When Susan asked him why the hammers were no longer working, Jerry explained that he was going to reset and needed to permanently inactivate the artifact to reset properly.[176][177] Jerry told her that the true purpose of the hammers was to encourage offensive comments by making men feel less guilty about them,[178] which led to Susan having an angst-induced awakening. Jerry cast a serenity spell to calm her down.[179]

Jerry made a spellbook for Susan and was surprised to find that her new spell was similar to the hammers, allowing her to hammer anyone she wants for any reason. He asked her if the hammers had some other importance to her and Susan mentioned aberrations.[180] After Grace and Sarah told Jerry about the France incident, he was enraged that the French Immortals had essentially used her and Nanase as child soldiers and felt that the Immortal race as a whole owed her a great debt[181] so he vowed to aid her the best of his ability.[182] After they said their farewells,[183] Susan turned back to hug Jerry.[184] After Susan came home she showed her fairy doll to Nanase, who noted that Susan had more of a sense of humor than she used to.[185]

New And Old Flames[]

On April 10, after Elliot gained his "Cheerleadra" form, he told Susan and Sarah that Grace had suggested that he ogle his female forms in a mirror but he couldn't since he would feel guilty about it. Sarah thought his restrainst was unhealthy but Susan thought it praiseworthy.[186] Later that day Justin hugged Susan,[187] who headbutted him because she doesn't like being touched. Justin told her that George had figured out that Elliot is Cheerleadra and asked her what to do. She suggested claiming ignorance. Justin suggested a plan where Cheerleadra would show herself to George along with Grace disguised as Elliot but Susan thought that was a bad idea.[188][189]

Legends of Celida[]

On May 4, when Susan was visiting Sarah, Sarah suggested that they play the video game The Legend of Celida (inspired by the Legend of Zelda series).[190] Sarah told Susan that the character Celida is a damsel in distress and in a different game she turns male to fight.[191] Susan didn't want to believe that the character is actually transformed[192] and suggested that she could be disguised with illusion magic. Sarah called Tedd to ask him if transformation or illusion magic is easier.[193] Sarah told Susan that Tedd had said that a manga confirms that Celida is transformed but suggested disregarding the manga. Susan ranted about why she regards the Star Trek: The Next Generation movies as not taking place in the same universe as the TV show.[194]

Summer[]

On May 28, Matt Cohen asked Susan out on a date[195] and Susan, panicked, rambled off an excuse of why she could not accept his offer and ran away.[196] At lunch Susan talked about it with Sarah. Susan said that Matt just wanted to sleep with her as he didn't know her but Sarah said that dating is a way to get to know someone.[197] While walking to her locker, Logic showed up to say that she overreacted to Matt's request. Curiosity, Nature and Nurture showed up to agree and Susan banged her head against her locker in regret.[198] Susan told Sarah she needed to apologize to Matt without getting his hopes up, but said that Matt freaked her out and scared her, which Matt overheard.[199] Susan apologized to Matt and said she had never been on a date before and told him about her issues, including the fact that she had killed a vampire. Matt was surprised that she had never dated[200] and told her that she might regret it if she didn't go on a date before the and of high school, which made Susan suspicious about his motives but Sarah defended Matt.[201]

The next day Susan was thinking about her lack of desire for romance when Elliot asked if he could get a job at Tensaided's video rental store.[202]

Susan requested her boss, Mr. Tensaided, to interview Elliot for a job. Before the interview, on June 7, she warned Elliot that Tensaided is extremely nerdy and would base his hiring decision on Elliot's nerdy knowledge.[203] When the interview went badly Susan interrupted it to speak with Tensaided in private.[204] She told him that Elliot knows Cheerleadra, which made Tensaided happy to hire Elliot.[205] Elliot was unhappy about her telling Tensaided that.[206] Elliot wanted to let Tensaided meet Cheerleadra and Susan, though less concerned about letting Tensaided down,[207] gave him advice about that plan.[208]

When Elliot started working at the rental store, on June 11, he told her he didn't feel motivated enough for his job and Susan told him that would protect the core of the customers' well-being by helping them choose wisely, which made Elliot enthusiastic.[209] When Catalina visited the rental store (probably the next day) Susan talked about going to a movie together but Catalina said that she would watch it with someone else. When Susan asked her about that person Catalina blushed and Susan realized that she had a date.[210][211] Susan realized that she would meet Catalina less often since she had a girlfriend, which made Susan feel lonely.[212] On June 13 Susan asked Sarah to go to the movie together but they couldn't come up with a time that suited both of them.[213]

The next day (June 14), after Elliot tried to dissuade a customer from watching a movie with terrible reviews, Susan told him that they should assume that the customers know what they are doing. She also brought up how she thought Elliot would save his enemies and Elliot said that she is like that too though she is more grumpy about it which made Susan angry about being called grumpy. Later Susan recalled her speech about the importance of helping customers choose wisely and reassured him that the customer would be fine.[214] Elliot said that he wanted to watch movies to make his own opinions[215] and Susan invited him to watch movies at her house next day. Elliot accepted her invitation, which made Susan happy.[216]

After Susan and Elliot started watching movies together[217] they talked about the movies at work[218] which caused the customers to rent those movies.[219] On June 19 Tensaided asked them to do a video review show for the store's website[220] and Susan and Elliot reluctantly agreed to it.[221] Susan suggested that they ask Sarah, Tedd and Justin for advice. Elliot said that he hates using a phone and mentioned that he didn't remember when he last talked to Sarah and Tedd. Susan ordered him to call Sarah using her authority from the store's leveling system.[222]

The next day Susan, Elliot, Sarah and Tedd met at Tedd's house.[223] Tedd and Sarah suggested that Susan and Elliot should use screen names for the show and Tedd specifically suggested something with "grumpy" for Susan, Susan angrily said that she wouldn't use aliases and that she isn't grumpy.[224] After watching other review shows Susan and Elliot thought their show wouldn't be like those.[225]

Their first review was of an unintentionally silly superhero movie that takes itself seriously and Susan said that it was a good thing that it failed at being serious.[226] She explained that she prefers movies that gives her a break from bad things of reality. She ranted about why she likes Star Trek.[227] Elliot liked her rant for being passionate but Susan said that it was too personal to post publicly.[228]

End Of An Era[]

Susan and Elliot continued making the review show. On December 23, after Susan, Elliot and Justin watched a review where Susan wore a Starfleet uniform from a Star Trek series, Susan said that Elliot should have joked about her wearing a uniform from the original series, which is a very short dress.[229] Elliot said that he wouldn't tease her about sexy clothing and Susan said that she wouldn't mind if he did it but backtracked to saying that it would have been just for the show.[230] Then Justin brought up her birthday, which is on New Year's Day. Susan said that she doesn't care about her birthday[231] but Elliot insisted on celebrating it on their New Year's Eve party with a cake and a birthday song.[232]

During a chat conversation on December 26, Justin asked Susan if she was attracted to Elliot[233] and she admitted that she was but blamed it on teenage hormones and showed Justin her list of things to avoid in order to avoid seducing Elliot, including dressing up as Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation.[234] She also said that pursuing a relationship would be betraying Sarah, even if Sarah and Elliot broke up.[235] On December 27 Elliot, having realized that he felt attracted to Susan,[236] broke up with Sarah[237] partly because he realized he never felt the same for her[238] but Susan and Elliot didn't otherwise act on their feelings since they felt that it would be betraying Sarah.[239]

Identity[]

Sometime in January (probably a Wednesday), after Elliot announced his breakup and Sarah also appeared in the review show[240] Susan was bothered that fans seemed to like her less than they liked Sarah.[241][242] When Catalina told Susan and Sarah about the rumor that Elliot broke up with Sarah because he is gay,[243] Susan commented on how rumors become seen as facts due to people's unwillingness to admit uncertainty and tracked the rumor to a comment by Ronin on the review show's website.[244][245] She also saw rebuttals by someone else whom she called "Mongoose" (Diane), which pleased her[246] and she decided to thank "Mongoose".[247] When Susan saw Catalina kissing Elliot[248] she found it sexy, which disturbed her.[242][249]

Later that day Tom approached her and comforted her by reassuring her that people do like her[250] in order to seduce her.[251] He started to leave saying that he was bothering her and Susan said that he wasn't bothering her. Tom offered to chat with her on a chatroom that evening.[252] When Susan was waiting for Tom on the chatroom, Justin logged in. He asked her about her feelings when Catalina kissed Elliot.[253] and mentioned that he had figured out that she found it sexy.[249] When Justin talked about her reasons for feeling that way, Susan called it madness.[254] She resolved to keep her attraction under control while acknowledging it.[255] While Susan and Justin played a chatroom roleplay, Tom logged in to see if she was there but used invisible mode to make her miss him.[256]

Next day (probably a Thrursday) Susan tried to hug Sarah to get used to it but found that she wasn't ready for it so she gave her a pat on the head instead.[257][258] Then she told Tom that she didn't want to date.[259] Tom wanted to keep the possibility of dating later open[260] and Susan became suspicious.[261] She brought up how he left pretending to think he was bothering her and called him a bad liar, which caused him to blurt out "I am a fantastic liar".[262] He admitted that he had tried to manipulate her into asking him out[263] and she told him that no one can trust him because of his manipulativeness.[264] Then she hugged Sarah.[265]

Then Ashley approached her and tried to warn her about Tom[266] and when she learned how fast Susan saw through him she was ashamed that it took her longer.[267] Susan told Ashley not to be ashamed.[268] When Sarah said that Elliot and Ashley were attracted to each other Susan decided to support their relationship instead of making them wait until she decided if she wanted to date Elliot.[269] When she asked Elliot if they could trust Ashley he told her that Ashley thought he and Susan were in love with each other when she approached him[270] and Susan was baffled that people would think that.[271] Later she told Justin about Tom and Ashley.[272] She told him that Elliot having a girlfriend was a relief since she could figure out how she felt without temptation and that she likes to watch other people's relationships.[273]

Playing With Dolls[]

On the following Saturday, after showering with her fairy doll, little Nase, which looks like Nanase,[274] Susan decided that she wanted a fairy doll that looked like herself so she asked Nanase to make one[275] using a clone form stored by Tedd.[276] Thus they went to Tedd's house to make such a doll.[277]

Susan decided that she wanted the new fairy doll to be proportionately shorter than her.[278] Tedd offered Susan a fairy doll of their own form[279] and Susan declined it[280] but changed her mind when Tedd couldn't hide her disappointment[281] so Nanase made a fairy doll of Tedd's form.[282] To design the new fairy doll Susan used a magic watch to make herself short.[283][284] The resulting form had proportionately wide hips as it made her shorter without shrinking her in all directions.[285] When Tedd brought up the possibility of an improved fairy summoning spell and asked if she had checked her spellbook, Susan was surprised that she had to check it.[286] She also told Tedd that she had avoided the spellbook because of the traumatic circumstances of her gaining magic.[287]

Susan was unsure whether her fairy doll should be based on a form with Nanase's height or the form she was in, which was shorter[288] so Nanase offered to make several fairy dolls[289] and Tedd offered to make a watch of several Susan forms and let Susan keep it.[290] Susan decided that she wanted only one fairy doll that looked like her, with Nanase's height and hips like the form she was testing.[291] Then she decided what forms she wanted for the watch.[292]

When Nanase transfomed into the Susan form to make the fairy doll, Susan noted that it felt weird.[293][294] Nanase reassured her that she looks good tall[295] and Susan talked about why she disliked her recent growth spurt, including mean internet comments saying that she looks lanky.[296] She also mentioned that she was bothered that those comments were bothering her. Nanase offered a hug[297] so Susan hugged her. When Tedd told her that she could disable internet comments Susan hugged her.[298]

When Nanase made the fairy doll and landed in Susan's hands,[299] Susan noted that it felt weird to hold a fairy doll[300] and let Nanase hold little Nase.[301] When Nanase tickled the fairy doll Susan was tickled and talked about her sensory feedback from little Nase.[302] Tedd told her that she could control the degree of feedback[303] and that she could possibly use the doll in first-person perspective.[304] Susan was intrigued by the thought of flying as a fairy doll but decided to wait until she had read her spellbook.[305]

Then Nanase made a fairy doll of her then-current look (she had transformed back to normal).[306] Then Tedd suggested making a Grace fairy doll,[307] which Nanase did.[308] The next night Susan slept with three of the new fairy dolls in her bed.[309]

Sister 3[]

The day after an incident where Elliot had to appear publicly as Cheerleadra (the Sunday after Elliot met Ashley and Susan and Nanase made her new fairy dolls), Mr. Tensaided offered Susan a day off for her to help protect his secret[310] and she sent a text message to Elliot about this.[311] Nanase called her back and told her to meet her and Ellen.[312] They told Susan about Diane, who resembles Susan, was born at the same time and was attacked by an aberration because of her magic affinity.[313] Susan was concerned about the attack and when she was told that there had been seven aberrations in Moperville she summoned a sword by reflex.[314] She didn't want to believe that Diane is her lost twin sister as she thought her mother wouldn't have allowed that.[315] When Nanase suggested that they are half-sisters[316] Susan was angry as that would mean that her father cheated on her mother before she was born[317] but when she learned that the reincarnated Jerry thought they are sisters she was willing to consider the possibility.[318] Ellen suggested that she meet Diane[319] and Susan agreed to meet her.[320]

The next day Ellen and Susan arranged for Susan and Diane to meet at the mall.[321] On the following Wednesday Susan talked to Justin about Diane.[322] Justin suggested that Diane's resemblance to Susan was because magic's flair for drama made them that way because of their affinity and time of birth and Susan noted that this would be more likely if they are half-sisters.[323] The day Susan was going to meet Diane she asked Elliot about her.[324]

On the following Friday, when Susan went to the mall to meet Diane, they met at the entrance.[325] They talked about their resemblance to each other and Susan told Diane that her natural hair color was blonde, like Diane, before she awakened.[326] When Diane leaned on a wall Susan was disturbed because of her cleanness issues.[327] Diane compared her cleanness issues to an allergy, which made Susan impessed by her understanding.[328] Then they came across Adrian Raven,[329] who was raising money and giving out pamphlets for a veteran charity. Susan gave money to his charity.[330] When a crowd passed, Susan danced through it and explained to Diane that she hates being touched.[331] Diane brought up dating and Susan told her that she doesn't date but had kissed a girl once.[332] While talking about her sexual orientation and her aversion to intimacy she realized that she feels the same about women as about men.[333][334]

When a group of aberrations (mercenaries sent by Magus and Sirleck to distract Helena and Demetrius[335]) rampaged in the mall, Zeus, the reincarnated Jerry, warned Susan and Diane[336][337] and told them that his new name is Zeus. Susan refused to leave,[338] tapped into the magic reservoir in her hair and killed one aberration with her summoned sword after first having little Nase blind him by exploding in his face.[339] Then another, koala-like, aberration attacked Susan, who dogded thanks to Diane's warning.[340] The aberration fled when Adrian Raven approached.[341][342] Raven borrowed Susan's sword to fight the vampires.[342] Then the immortal Pandora, Raven's mother, appeared to Raven and Susan.[343] The koala aberration attacked Susan again to unsummon Susan's sword[344] but Susan dodged and hammered him again thanks to little Nase seeing him.[345] When one aberration was about to kill Adrian Raven,[346] Pandora killed the remaining vampires.[347] Before Pandora was reset for breaking immortal law, she told Adrian, Susan and Diane that Susan is his descendant and Diane is his daughter.[348] After Diane left Susan and Adrian talked about his family history.[349]

The next day Susan felt numb from too many feelings and refused to tell Sarah and her other friends what happened.[350] She invited Diane to watch a movie together to distact themselves.[351][352]

Reflections[]

On the Monday one and a half weeks after Susan met Diane and the Ravens, when Elliot invited Susan to a party to introduce Ashley to his friends, she didn't want to go to the party because she didn't want to talk about her experiences with magic.[353][354] Later she had an internal debate between her nature and nurture about whether she should go to the party or continue avoiding her friends because she didn't want to talk about the attack at the mall. Nurture suggested hanging out with Diane instead.[355]

On the day of the party (the Saturday after she was invited) Susan met Diane, who told her how she began a romantic relationship with her friend Lucy, which made Susan baffled by how suddenly she made that decision.[356] Then they went to the video rental store. While there Diane hid and disguised herself[357] and explained that she was hiding from her sister Rhea and they talked about keeping secrets from their families. Susan mentioned that she hadn't told her friends about the events when they met.[358] When Susan mentioned the party Diane insisted on going to it together.[359] On the way to the party Susan told Diane that Elliot, Ashley and Ellen had been kidnapped by Magus and Sirleck and that she had avoided asking for details.[360]

After Susan and Diane arrived for the party[361][362] Susan told the other party guests that she didn't want to talk about how she is related to Diane.[363] When Sarah enlarged herself Susan wanted to hug her[364] and when Diane hugged Sarah, Susan walked away.[365] Nanase asked her what was wrong and she complained that Diane made her feel like a waste of space by being more sociable than she is and just as smart.[366] Then Sarah offered to hug Susan.[367] After they hugged, Susan considered seeking therapy but decided to talk to Grace about her issues instead.[368]

When Elliot came out as gender-casual Susan was surprised and asked Elliot for elaboration about their gender identity. Elliot said that the threat of magic change made them realize that they would miss their transformation ability. Susan said that she would miss her fairies,[369] which made Elliot nervous. Susan asked why Elliot was nervous[370] and Elliot explained that magic change was no longer an issue, that Tedd could explain it better and that it was related the events that Susan didn't want to think about.[371]

When the group was discussing whether to tell Catalina and Rhoda about magic, Susan said that she was going to tell Catalina to prevent others from taking advantage of her ignorance like when immortals made Susan and Nanase kill an aberration.[372] She planned to joke about catgirl magic to see Catalina's reaction.[373]

When most of the party guests were transformed by the mirror door Susan was transformed into a female Justin.[374][375]

Then Susan walked away from the others to leave them alone because she had nothing to say. Justin suggested that she talk to Diane.[376] Diane considered telling Tedd that her father is a half-immortal and asked Susan for advice.[377][378] When Susan referred to Adrian Raven as Diane's dad, Diane objected that he hadn't been with her during her childhood[379] and Susan told her how her own father cheated on her mother.[380] Susan was impressed by how Tedd made the mirror door safe using pressure release chopsticks.[381] When Tedd designed a spell for reverting transformations by the mirror, Susan tested it by changing back to normal.[382]

When Tedd said that she needed a distraction from thinking about her mother, Susan gave Diane a look to encourage her to tell the group that Adrian Raven is her father.[383] Then Susan told the group that she is descended from Raven.[384] Tedd brought up Pandora's reset at the mall and told them that Pandora would be back with genuine memories of them.[385] After the discussion about the Ravens Diane asked Susan if she needed to talk about anything and Susan mentioned that she killed a vampire at the mall.[386] Then she said that it felt better now that she had talked about it. Then Nanase broke down crying because she felt guilty about failing to kill the vampire in France.[387] Susan hugged her and said that neither of them should have been in that situation.[388]

Balance[]

Susan planned to talk to Catalina about who would have what magic based on their personality and to prepare she talked to Elliot about the same subject on the day after the party (a Sunday).[389] She suggested that superhero magic would suit Elliot but he said that they couldn't tell Catalina that. Instead she suggested dog magic[390] as it was the closest thing to superhero that they could mention to Catalina. Elliot suggested that ice magic would suit Susan.[391] Susan thought he was suggesting that she is cold and Elliot tried to come up with more flattering explanations. Susan didn't believe him but she forgave him.[392]

Susan planned to talk to Catalina about magic at school the following day, a Monday.[393] In the morning Catalina was in a surprisingly good mood.[394] Susan wondered if it was because of something sexual that Catalina had done with her girlfriend, which made her embarrassed.[395] At lunch Catalina was sleepy since she hadn't slept well in the past two nights.[396] Susan decided to wait until the next day.[397] Later that day Susan and her friends learned that her and her friends' spells had changed[398] and she thought it was urgent to talk to Catalina about magic. Thus she started her planned conversation the next day (a Tuesday).[397] Catalina revealed no sign that she had magic but said that the notion that she would have cat magic is boring.[399] Sarah joined in by suggesting that dog magic would suit Catalina. Catalina, just like Elliot, suggested ice magic for Susan.[400] After the conversation Sarah told Susan that she had seen in the locker room that Catalina didn't have a magic mark on her back and they concluded that she didn't have magic.[401]

Our Future[]

Later Susan felt lonely since all her friends were in romantic relationships[402] and she thought Sarah in particular preferred dating Sam to hanging out with her.[403]

Susan grumbled about her busy schedule, with both school and work at Tensaided's video rental store and looked forward to leaving the school and the work,[404] but when Mr. Tensaided asked her when she would leave her work to go to college,[405] she became sad.[406] When she met Sarah at school next day, Susan cried.[407] Sarah asked her what was wrong and Susan complained that it didn't make sense for her to be sad.[408][409] Sarah reassured her that it made sense to be sad about change[410] and they decided to hang out more together.[411]

Then Susan saw ominous comments about change on the review show channel.[412] She decided to tell Edward Verres about the comments.[413] She interpreted the comments as a message from Zeus about the immortals changing their law.[414][415] Edward was impressed by Susan figuring out what the message meant,[416] especially when Susan explained how she figured it out.[417] Susan further discussed the immortals with Tedd and Grace.[418] Susan and Tedd also talked about Susan's new fairy summoning spell, which no longer need to use copies of Nanase's fairy dolls and which summons fairy dolls that look like her.[419] Due to the second magic change, summoning fairies now weakens her ability to think if she summons more than one or give them complex tasks, but she can mitigate that effect by using more magic.[420]

When Susan went to bed she worried about her future and whether she was wrong about Zeus's message.[421] To quiet her worried thoughts she summoned three fairy dolls.[422]

For Reals[]

Susan overheard several arguments at Tensaided's video rental store where people referred to their own views as what every real fan knows.[423] When she heard someone mention the review show she had an idea:[424] she decided to make a video with Elliot.[425][426]

Susan and Elliot started their discussion by saying that they were confused by the notion of "real fans".[427] Susan said that she generally dislikes gatekeeping of people as not real fans, but she also thought people can't count as real fans if they disagree with the core of what the show is about.[428] When Elliot said that people can like a show for its aesthetics, Susan said that she thought "fan" means more than liking one superficial thing about the show.[429] She looked up the word "fan" in a dictionary, which defined it as "enthusiastic devotee" or "ardent admirer or enthusiast".[430] She concluded that people can be fans if they like the show superficially or ironically, so long as they are enthusiastic about it.[431] However, Elliot noted that people arguing can mean different things when they are arguing and Susan noted that people arguing usually care more about what they see as winning than they care about clarity.[432] Then Elliot noted that it is understandable that people may be defensive about what they like about a show.[433] Susan concluded that people should not gatekeep fandoms. Elliot joked about Susan havig a nohugs list and Susan said that everyone is on that list.[434]

Susan and Elliot didn't read the comments on that video.[435]

Parable[]

At an unknown time Mist pulled several people, including Susan, into a magical shared dream.[436] The dream was a parody of the video game series Fable and Susan was cast as the hero.[437]

At the beginning of the story Susan was sent by the seer, who looked like Arthur, into a cave for a ritual to awaken her hero abilities.[438] During the quest she was disgusted by the giant beetles in the cave and the cave water.[439] As she earned experience points in the cave she gained her first spell and chose slow time.[440]

The seer sent Susan to a town.[441] On the way to the town Susan encountered bandits. She disarmed them and tied them up using her slow time spell.[442][443]

In the town Susan became a landlord, making her rich and giving her a purity stat that made her always clean by lowering the rents.[444][445] She ignored the seer's attempts to contact her.[445] She bought potions from the alchemist, Dee ElSee (Mr. Tensaided)[446] and, on his suggestion,[447] she fed potions to NPCs, which gave her evil morality points until she gained horns and a tail.[448][449]

Then the seer took Susan away to complete the main quest.[450] He sent her to help a temple with a ritual in order to recruit the hero of melee weapons.[451] Her job at the temple was to guard Rhoda while she would carry out the ritual.[452] When the temple was attacked by an evil cult,[453] Susan was immobilized as the game mechanics changed to a cutscene[454] and Rhoda had to fight them, revealing her to be the hero of melee.[455][456] After Rhoda had left the temple and joined the seer she wanted to go to a pub and Susan gave her a bag of gold.[457] After Susan realized that it was a bad idea[458] she went looking for Rhoda.[459]

Just after Susan saw Rhoda with her new girlfriend Catalina, she saw a shadowy figure (Jay) watching them.[460] She chased the shadowy figure into a dead end.[461] The shadowy figure turned off cheats, resetting Susan's stats,[462] and left. Susan decided to earn evil points in order to get her tail back.[463] As a result of the increased difficulty Susan could no longer make NPCs drink potions.[464] However, she still earned as much money and purity from landlording as before.[465] On Dee ElSee's suggestion[466] she went to a barbershop.[467] The barber told her that since she was the protagonist, nothing would happen unless she could see it or barely miss it.[468]

While Susan was musing about the possibility of saving the world by not doing the main quest, the seer took her away to resume the plot.[469] When she learned that Rhoda and Catalina didn't see the underwear that she saw but thought she was naked,[470] she was pleased by them not being more bothered by nudity.[471] As the hero of magic had been kidnapped,[472] the seer told Susan to rescue her.[473] Susan proposed her own plan for the rescue mission, a stealthy infitration mission.[474] While Susan was away looking for side quests to level up, she met a beggar. Annoyed that there was still poverty after she had lowered the rents, she gave him a large amount of money, which earned her enough morality points to gain a halo and angel wings.[475] Then she trained stealth.[476][477][478]

Then Susan sneaked aboard a supply ship,[479] went with the ship to the enemy's island fortress,[480] and found the hero of magic. The hero of magic was Jay, whom Susan didn't recognize.[481] Susan shrank her out of her shackles[482][483] and carried her[484] while Jay fought the guards.[485][486] After they escaped[487] Susan asked Jay about her suspicious pop culture knowledge while holding her in her hand.[488] Jay denied that she knew anything other than the world where they were.[489][490]

The seer told the heroes that the hero of ranged weapons was a pirate named Grace[491] and Susan remembered the evil Fable character Grace had been cast as.[492] Susan wanted to bring Jay and Rhoda in order to prevent an incident in the game where the heroes would be captured but the seer said that changing fate would risk the happy ending,[493][494] which convinced Susan not to defy fate yet.[495] Then she went on side quests,[496] befriended NPCs and asked them to show up to prevent the ending cutscene if the seer should turn out to be evil. Dee ElSee was the only one who understand what she was requesting.[497] She also leveled up.[498]

When Susan sought out Grace,[499] Grace tried to shoot her[500] as she didn't trust anyone with Susan's reputation as a do-gooder.[501] Susan told Grace that she was being self-destructive[502] and, as a result of a successful speech check, Grace split into two squirrels.[503] The two sqirrels fought[504] and the good squirrel won.[505] Grace explained that her issues were due to the monks and the cult trying to control her.[506] She mentioned that she had been warned that an evil seer would use her blood for a wish granting ritual.[507]

The seer was nearby with the cult that had attacked the temple and they had Jay and Rhoda in shackles.[508] When the seer declared that the ending cutscene would begin, Susan fired a fireball upwards[509] and revealed her plan to prevent the cutscene by having Dee ElSee show up.[510][497]

When Susan and the enemies were preparing to fight,[511] Mist showed up to interrupt them.[512] He explained what he was doing.[436] When Mist was interrogating Rhoda about who she was,[513] Jay ended the dream.[514][515] Susan continued sleeping and didn't remember much afterwards.[516]

Hope[]

While watching a movie set in high school for the review show before Mist's dream, Susan was distracted by thoughts about graduating from school,[517] so she talked in the review show about her feelings about leaving school and about change in general.[518]

Not long after the dream Susan went to a Magickal Gatherings tournament at Salty Crackers Comics, as Mr. Tensaided had helped her make a deck.[519][520] Her deck used a boardwipe spell[521] and monsters that can come back as ghosts.[522] Before the touirnament Jay approached her and told her that she knew her name (neither of them remembered that they had met in the shared dream) and Susan told Jay that she thought Jay's name was Jack[523] and they talked about their names.[524][525] When Sarah arrived, Susan felt a bit jealous about Sarah arriving with Sam and his friends instead of her[526]

In round 1 of the Magickal Gatherings tournament Susan was paired with Jay.[527] When they sat down to play, Susan thought about getting to know Jay and ended up fantasizing about something resembling a date.[528] Susan won both of their games.[529][530] After their games Susan told Jay that several people recognized her but Jay was the only one she inexplicably recognized. Jay explained that the others recognized Susan from her review show,[531] which made Susan embarrassed as she didn't want people to know only her on-camera self.[532] Jay reassured her that it's a good thing as Susan might be able to control other people's perception of her,[533] which made Susan wonder how sincere Jay had been with her.[534]

In round 2 Susan played Rich.[535] Susan won.[536] During their games Susan acted cheerful,[537][538] which was stressful to her.[539]

Relationships[]

Justin[]

Susan and Justin initially bonded over a shared love of Star Trek. When staying over at her house, Susan "lied" to her mother about Justin being gay,[48] which she didn't know was true until he confirmed it a few moments later. During Grace's party, while both were transformed, they kissed and might have gone farther[540] if not for a light burning out (thanks to the Demonic Duck). They have shown to be good friends ever since.

Catalina[]

Catalina was initially introduced as a member of Susan's feminist club. She asked Susan out on a date.[541] Susan explained that she is not gay (though often wished she was), which upset Catalina. Susan however imagined how the date might went,[542] and later Susan expressed an interest in being friends with Catalina, which she readily accepted.[543]

Susan told about this to Justin, who summarized it as Susan wishing being bi-curious with Catalina[544] and she later used Catalina in her though-test of sexuality.[545]

Tedd[]

Initially Susan's opposite, they both learned to tolerate each other after Sarah and Elliot started dating. They've become friends, each one lessening the other's extreme attitudes and views. Tedd considered their relationship to be based on mutual teasing but showed his support for her when he wore a woman's vest and told the students off for mocking her when she was trying to get the uniform policy changed. Upon seeing this, Susan actually had to fight the urge to hug him.[546]

Sarah[]

Susan was the one who taught Sarah how to summon hammers, as well as the one who had her join the feminist club. Sarah went with Susan to check on the status of the hammer artifact and, while traveling there, learned about Susan's France trip.

Nanase[]

Susan and Nanase were paired up during their school trip to France[14] before the events of EGS, where they encountered a vampire-like aberration, as well as the French Immortals who helped them slay the aberration. During the stay at Susan's house, when Nanase asked Susan to talk with her about Ellen, Susan revealed Nanase's true orientation to her in panic. However, Nanase never blamed Susan for doing so.

Elliot[]

Susan was initially dismissive of Elliot, thinking him as an insensitive jerk for seemingly treating Sarah with disrespect. However, after his defense of Ellen at the conclusion of Sister she reconsidered her perception of him. After she helped him get a job at the video store, the two of them began making online video reviews of movies at the request of Mr. Tensaided. Currently, Susan has a crush on Elliot, but has little interest in going after him yet, because she's not ready for romantic relationship.[547] She seems to enjoy watching Elliot get along with other women, despite her jealousy.[548][249] (Note: Dan mentioned she may be autochorissexual.)[549]

Ellen thinks that camera is making her weirdly cheerful and smiling,[550] but seems more likely it's Elliot.[551]

Grace[]

Susan initially thought Grace was an android built by Tedd, but once she discovered the truth behind her existence she was more accepting of her and later grudgingly agreed to spend over sixteen hours with her during the Hammerchlorians storyline, in which she got to know her better. Susan seems to find her slightly annoying, but nevertheless likes her.[163]

Ellen[]

Susan first met Ellen during the Sister story arc and got to know her during the Ellen's Crew storyline. Ellen showed her what she looked like blonde again and made her realize all the males she knew had good qualities, which helped Susan grow emotionally.

Diane[]

While not directly confirmed, it was heavily hinted at, almost directly said by Jerry[552][553] and widely believed by both readers and characters[554][555] that Diane is Susan's twin sister. They were identical twins in appearance until Susan awakened,[556] but they dress differently and Diane doesn't dye her hair. After Susan's awakening, Susan's natural hair color changed from blonde to the dark blue color she had been dyeing it and she grew three inches taller than Diane.

Edward Verres mentions that the hospital records indicate that Susan and Diane are not twins,[557] but that they might plausibly be half-sisters by different mothers, given Susan's father's penchant for infidelity.[558] Regarding Jerry, he didn't actually know for sure, he just reached the same conclusion based on the same reasons.[559]

Diane is 20 minutes older than Susan: she was born 31 December at 23:50, while Susan was born 1 January at 0:10. Diane is adopted and knows it.

Another difference about Diane and Susan is that where Susan is a proud Star Trek nerd, Diane considers "nerd" an insult.[560]

Note: While Diane is sure about it,[554] it took some time before someone tried to tell Susan[561] (not counting the initial rejected attempt.[562]) When she was finally told, she didn't take it well, but the argument with Jerry convinced her.[563]

Pandora Raven finally revealed that they are related, but not closely: Diane is a daughter of Adrian Raven, while Susan is a much more distant descendant, making Diane Susan's great-to-the-double-digit-nth-degree (meaning at least 10 "greats") aunt.[564] Note: The approximate minimum number of familial generations separating them can be deduced based on how old Pandora was at the time she most recently reset (at least 599[565] years old) and the number of generations of humans could have lived in that time (assuming a generation length of at most 30 years) to arrive at about 20 generations (599 divided by 30).

Cousins[]

While she denied caring about any other family than her mother when texted about Diane,[562] later Susan admitted she spent Christmas watching surprisingly not awful cartoons with her cousins.[566] Sounds like they are considerably younger ...

(A)sexuality[]

No touching[]

Susan doesn't like physical contact,[567][568] although she's trying to get better with it.[569] Even her idea of ideal date does barely include any touching.[570]

(Despite that, her score with Hugs is quite high[571][572][572][573][574] - but it was all special circumstances and mostly after she decided she needs to get better.)

And when she said she's not ready for romantic relationship,[547] it was likely the physical part which was problem.

This might obviously be related either to her experience with vampire[14] or the divorce,[12][575] likely both, but not completely explained by it. On the other hand, it is hinted that her nature would have less problems with hugging than her nurture.[546]

Likes to watch[]

Meanwhile, she seems to enjoy watching Elliot get along with other women, despite her jealousy.[548][249]

Asexual[]

In Q&A, Lisa wondered if Susan even have a sex drive normally (when not transformed).[576] Later Sarah worded the same wonder[577] when planning her breakup with Elliot.

While technically the "no touching" desire could be hiding her sexuality, both her own introspection[578] and Dan[549] suggests she's actually asexual, specifically autochorissexual.

Except when transformed[]

Exceptions include being under influence of FV5 pheromones[579] (even more strongly before retcon[580]), possibly FV5 itself,[54] or when transformed to guy[581][582][118] - which makes sense, considering the general mechanism of adding heterosexual attraction [according to their new gender] on top of existing one TF gun has.[583] (And, if we count non-canon, under influence of wishing well.[584])

Susan's mind[]

Similar to shoulder angel and devil traditionally depicting people's good and evil side, Susan has four anthropomorphic personification of different sides of her personality.

Curiosity[]

Susan's Curiosity

Curiosity looks like a catgirl. She first appeared to convince Susan to go to Grace's Birthday Party.[75] She reappeared in an NP comic, gathering swag at a comic convention.[585] and she also joined the others to say that Susan shouldn't have reacted as she did to Matthew William Cohen asking her out.[198]

Logic[]

Susan's Logic

Logic looks like a Vulcan from Star Trek. She first appeared to counter Curiosity's arguments in favor of going to the party, but was persuaded to agree with her.[76] She reappeared briefly during the party itself, bemoaning her uselessness there. She next reappeared in the same NP comic as Curiosity, saying that she went to a Veronica Mars panel before Susan questioned her. And she joined the others commenting Susan's reaction to Matthew.

Nature and Nurture[]

Susan's Nature and Nurture

Nature and Nurture represents her natural nature, and who she's been nurtured to become. Unlike her Curiosity and Logic, Susan does not consciously acknowledge her Nature and Nurture. In appearance, her Nature is a blonde version of Susan with bright clothes, while her Nurture has blue hair and darker-colored clothes. They appeared to show Susan's mental conflict over how she should respond to Tedd's show of support for her cause during the uniform plot of Sister II.[546] They also join the others commenting Susan's reaction to Matthew.

Hobbies[]

Susan likes Star Trek. In her words, It is an optimistic, silly mix of technobabble, goofy makeup, social commentary, fun and adventure and It. Is. Beautiful.[227] She owns all the movies and all of Next Generation, and possibly other series as well. She does NOT, however, like the J.J.Abrams movies[586] - although it has nothing to do with the skirt uniforms.

Note that she considers the Star Trek TNG movies to happen in different continuity than the TNG itself[587] and have very good reasons for that.[588]

Speaking about uniforms, the mandatory dress code started because she wore shirt with ST:TNG label[72] - she used to wear such shirts as a "security blanket" when she was upset.[69]

Hair[]

Susan dyed her hair dark blue because her dad had affair with blonde.[42][589] It became naturally dark blue after her awakening[179] - or, to be exact, it stayed blonde on genetic level[590] but was colored dark blue by magic stored in it, which can boost Susan in fight.[339]

The specific shade she uses is actually named in comics as Gloomy Gus Blue[575][591] and is dark enough to look black unless under proper lighting.[592]

She also likes keeping it impractically long[593] for adequately logical reasons.[594] She also likes other color variants,[52][595] although it took her time before she got over them reminding her the blonde.[596]

Despite really wanting to, she didn't get any hair related powers yet,[597] not counting badass-hair-in-wind-without-wind.[598] Her hair definitely can't mind-control people in canon.[599]

Job[]

Susan works in the video rental store under Mr. Tensaided.[9] She keeps odd- and even-numbered Star Trek movies separate.[46]

In the Summer story arc, Elliot started working there as well, based on her recommendation. She had to use Tensaided's interest in meeting Cheerleadra to get Elliot hired,[205] but later it turned out he was very good at this job, and Susan and Elliot even started doing movie reviews together.[220]

Cleaning[]

Susan has issues with germs and cleanliness. It's first shown when she objects to Nanase sitting on the kitchen counter,[57] later she was cleaning the hotel room in Hammerchlorians.[600] Both are not so extreme - in fact, Dan didn't originally plan anything, but when people reacted that she's a clean freak, he decided to go along with that. Therefore, she later washed hands after helping Elliot with chopsticks[601] or after shaking hands with Mr. Tensaided.[221]

She describes this issue to Diane[602] as "like an itch I need to scratch, so I sanitize my hands, or change clothes, or whatever will make my brain shut up!". This may indicate that Susan's issues are a manifestation of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Susan shares this trait with Dan and he directly states that his intention was not for her to have some specific problem but people diagnosing her are also diagnosing Dan.[603]

Abilities[]

Susan is a master at using hammers (and is therefore known as the "Hammer Queen"[604][605]). Her use of the hammers has lessened as the comic, and specifically her most common target, Tedd, matured. Since the Hammer Artifact lost its power, Susan is the only one who can still use hammers.

Growth Spurt[]

At start of the comic, Susan was 5'6". Then she got a growth spurt, growing to 5'8"[606] and later 5'9".[5] In Family Tree, Nanase speculated that because it happened after her awakening, it's actually caused by magic.[607]

Susan doesn't like her new height[606] and gladly accepted a magic watch with her original height[595] ... and a few other options.[608]

Note that Dan explicitly mentioned[609] that he doesn't think having growth spurt at age 17 is realistic, suggesting Nanase was right and the growth spurt was caused by magic.

Magic[]

Item Summoning[]

Susan's box with its original contents

While in France, Susan was attacked by a monster due to having affinity for summoning and had to have Nanase save her. That night two French immortals came into their hotel room and offered them the power to stop the monster. Susan was given a Magic Mark[18] (sort of magical tattoo) on her back which allowed her to summon objects kept in storage as long as the storage has her mark on it. Susan can only summon one object at a time and the object will disappear when it is struck by sufficient force, and the storage space has to be refreshed or they will stop working. The chest she was given had a sword, mace, and axe in it to begin with. Currently her chest has a couple swords, a bat, some tools, a crowbar, and one of Nanase's fairy dolls.[169] The mark on her back was first seen[610] in part 2 of the Grace's Birthday Party story arc.

Fairy Summoning[]

During the second part of the Hammerchlorians storyline, Susan demonstrated her item summoning to Sarah and Grace, but was surprised to discover that the magical copy of Nanase's Fairy Doll was not only animated, but appeared to act out Susan's subconscious, much like Nanase's Fox Clone does when not directly controlled.[611] Whether this is a result of Susan's spell interacting with Nanase's magic, a side-effect of Nanase's temporary magic burnout, or entirely different reasons was speculated on by the characters but remains unclear. It takes direct orders(like a retrieval of soda), and has the nickname of Nase, just as Nanase's Fox Clone takes orders and is called Fox.

In canon newspaper story Playing With Dolls, Susan asked Nanase to create her different doll with Tedds help. She also found out that she's supposed to periodically check her spellbook[612] for new spells.

Tedd looked at her spell and mentioned few more details: she already can control how much sensory feedback she get from her doll and [613] she might even be able to possess the doll just like Nanase does.[614] End of the story suggest that she is now able to summon multiple fairies at once.[615]

As of Our Future, Susan has a dedicated fairy summoning spell which summons fairy dolls that look like her and doesn't use copies of Nanase's fairy dolls.[419]

Hammers Unleashed[]

Susan and Nanase were the two of main cast who were originally taught about the Hammers by immortals in France.[18] Susan was the one who got most proficient with them, able to juggle three hammers and lunch plate at once[579] and earning nickname Hammer Queen.[604] She was also the one who noticed they stopped working.[616]

Susan's first spell upon her Awakening was the ability to summon the hammers again, but for use against anybody for any reason,[617] instead of just when someone is offensive towards a woman.[618] She can also manifest variant hammers, including a throwable version.[619]

Aura doing ... something[]

During the time she was not checking her spellbook, she got possibility to summon items with aura that does ... something.[620] Which might help against aberrations. Susan's book might've been written even more confusingly than Elliot's.

Summoning multiple things[]

The way she formulate it, she can now summon multiple things in general,[621] not just fairies.[615]

Hair Reserves[]

After her awakening, Susan's hair now holds a magical charge that she will instinctively tap when in immediate peril for a physical and magical boost.[339] Tapping this reserve turns her hair blonde until the reserve refills.

Trivia[]

  • As Dan Shive states in the follow-up to the Painted Black arc, Shade Tail was initially supposed to be a hot tempered blonde. He says that the Shade Tail character changed to the Grace we all know and love when he combined her with a pre-webcomic character, also named Grace. A remnant of the original, sardonic Grace character found its way into the story in Susan.[622]
  • Susan is not able to resist the power of puppy dog eyes.[623]
  • Susan is capable of using puppy dog eyes successfully, but only unintentionally and subconsciously.[227][624][625]
  • Susan's mansion is located in the Snoot Creek subdivision.[626]
  • Susan doesn't like vampire romances.[627] Probably due to her actual personal experience in France.[628][629]
