Seers are a rare kind of wizard who don't get any spell of their own, have a lot of magic energy and high resistance, and the ability to literally see how magic works.[1]
Voltaire directly said Tedd is a seer[2] and Heka said that's the name for the description Pandora gave him ... which was a description of Tedd.
It is likely that the "dangerous rarity"[3] description Interdimensional Whale used for Tedd was referring to the same set of abilities.
Similarly, the rare type of wizard, that wouldn't be affected by a reset because they don't get spells in the first place the Emissary of Magic from Grace's dream mentioned,[4] seems to be this.
Seers are not "chosen" - who is a seer is determined by their ancestry.[5][6] It may be specific combination of magic affinities.
Known Seers[]
Note that there are approximately one seer for every seven million people, meaning there are around a thousand seers on Earth now.[9]
Seers and Wand Making[]
Based on what Pandora Raven said, seers are a type of wizard, specifically wand makers.[10] There are spells non-seer wizards can learn to create and copy wands, and tools for making them (presumably spell catalysts),[11] but those were likely created by seers in the past. Also, it's possible some seers are active as wand makers and don't realize they are seers.
Signs of Tedd being a Seer[]
- Seeing magic: Despite Sarah assuming that Tedd had programmed a magic vision setting into his glasses,[12] Tedd was actually able to visually sense magic and was surprised that not everyone can.[13] Tedd first discovered this insight by using it on itself, whilst using it on her mark-based spell when transforming from female to male.[14]
- Having a lot of magic energy: Partially confirmed by Luke's being temporary blinded by his aura.[15]
- Being able to disenchant himself: Or herself.[16]
Seers and magic change[]
Seers have two purposes related to a Magic change:
- All seers will be made aware of the new magic; how the new system after a change works, and how to teach it to others.[21]
- Seers who have used magic, but do not know about this second purpose, are tasked with providing a human perspective to help determine the severity of magic's change.[21] Or, to put it in layman's terms instead of magic's terms: The seers who have already used magic get to help decide whether the change in magic should be big or small, but only if they didn't know beforehand that this second purpose exists. Otherwise there'd be danger of seers exploiting this knowledge somehow.
