Sarah Brown is Elliot's best friend at the beginning of EGS, and was his girlfriend since the Relations storyline but they later broke up. She is artistic and, arguably, the most normal character. Sarah is unusually level-headed considering the number of bizarre experiences she has had, and she rarely loses her temper. She once had an incident involving Tedd transforming her into a cat-girl;[5][6] since that time she has been extremely cautious about transformations involving herself. However, in the The End of Spring storyline she asked Tedd if he needed a lab assistant, and was accepted;[7] she did this partially to get over her fear and partially to gain some sort of magical ability.
History[]
Before El Goonish Shive[]
Before the comic started, when Sarah was partnered with Tedd for a school project,[8] Tedd was showing Sarah his TF gun (which was presumably unrelated to the project) to her when he fired it when he thought it was too low on power, turning her into a catgirl and causing it to overload: she was forced to skip school until the transformation could be reverted, and held deep animosity towards Tedd.[5]
Shade[]
On Saturday, January 26, after the first attack of the goo, Sarah called Elliot and told him that he and Tedd were in the newspaper because of the goo.[9] She also tried to get Elliot to go on a date with her at a movie theater, but he pretended that he didn't understand that she wanted a date and insisted on bringing Tedd along, ruining her plans.[10] At the theater Sarah said that she didn't want to watch a chick flick and Tedd called her a lesbian.[11]
The next day, Elliot called her to get clothes for Grace so she come over to Tedd's house.[12] She disguised Grace by tucking her antennae behind her ears and took her to the mall.[13] At the mall Sarah had trouble keeping Grace focused as Grace was more interested in video games than clothes.[14][15] When Grace did shop for clothes she looked for small and stretchy clothes and mentioned that she weighed 160 pounds, which confused Sarah as she didn't know about Grace's shapeshifting and Grace looked smalled than 160 pounds.[16][17] After they finished shopping, they cut through an alleyway despite Sarah noting that it could be dangerous.[18] When they then met a would-be mugger, Sarah tried to cooperate,[19] only to witness Grace 'go squirrel' on the mugger. Sarah immediately blamed Tedd and carried Grace home.[20]
When they got there, Sarah yelled at Tedd[21] until his father said that it wasn't Tedd's fault[22] and told them about Project Lycanthrope.[23] When Grace woke up,[24] Sarah talked to her about what happened and surprised Grace by remaining unfazed by Grace's squirrel form.[25] She was about to tell her about the incident with Tedd when she was interrupted by Elliot and Tedd, who came back after looking for more information about Grace.[8] When Elliot leered at Grace while asking her why she was almost naked when she first arrived at Tedd's house, Sarah hammered Elliot because she didn't like his tone.[26]
Relations and Catnip[]
Elliot left Tedd's house after Sarah hammered him[26] and when Sarah followed him he invited her to the Anime Style Martial Arts Dojo on the pretext that she needed to learn how to defend herself.[27] In fact, he did it so he could reveal that he had a girlfriend, Nanase.[28] At school Elliot avoided Sarah the next day (Monday, January 27).[29][30] They went to the dojo the same day and Elliot introduced Sarah to Justin and left because the teacher, Greg, called him away. Justin pointed out Nanase to Sarah.[31] Greg ordered Elliot and Nanase to do a demonstration match for Sarah.[32][33] At the end of the demonstration match Sarah, who still hadn't been told about their relationship, saw Nanase kissing Elliot[34] and Sarah ran to a local ice cream shop. When Elliot found her,[35] Elliot admitted that he had been aware of Sarah's crush. Sarah objected to his wording and said that she loved him[36] and left.[37] Nanase broke up with Elliot[38] partly because she thought Elliot and Sarah loved each other.[39]
When Sarah got back to Tedd's house, she found Tedd fast asleep on the couch with Grace in her half squirrel form.[40] They showed Sarah the video of their experiments that day.[41]
Sister[]
When Sarah told Susan about Nanase next day (Tuesday, January 29), Susan said that she should be angry with Elliot and Sarah defended him.[42] Tedd told Sarah that Elliot had told him that he was trying to figure out how to fix his relationship with the woman he loved. Tedd didn't know that Elliot was referring to Sarah and assumed that he was making it up.[43]
After Elliot decided what to say[44] he phoned Sarah,[45] who went to his house. When Sarah arrived Tedd had transformed Elliot into a female form.[46] Elliot asked Sarah to help him get clothes so he could go back to school.[47]
The next day at school, Susan insulted Elliot in front of Sarah and female Elliot (not knowing that "she" was Elliot) and Sarah said that she should shut up as they had already talked about it and were now a couple.[48] She asked Elliot not to kiss her until he had a male body again.[49]
The next day (Thursday, January 31), when Ellen came to school in an effort to destroy Elliot's reputation,[50][51] Sarah talked to her, thinking she was Elliot. Ellen kissed, her said goodbye[52] and ran away but turned back to save her from the Omega Goo.[53] Ellen told Sarah to run away.[54] When Sarah was running away from the goo she ran into Grace and Greg, who were at the school to tell her that Ellen wasn't Elliot[55] and to tell Ellen that she wouldn't die in a month. Sarah wanted to tell Ellen that to stop her from doing something reckless but Greg pointed out that it could be dangerous to distract her or approach her while she was fighting the goo.[56] When Susan arrived and told them that Nanase would join them[57] Sarah was surprised that Susan knew Nanase.[58] When Grace stopped the goo from killing Ellen and Nanase with her telekinesis, Sarah remembered that Grace disarmed the mugger with telekinesis and suggested that she change into a different form to avoid passing out.[59]
When Elliot and Tedd arrived, Sarah was angry with Tedd for Elliot being in a cat form.[60] When Elliot asked what had happened Sarah insisted that he and Tedd tell her and the others how they got home first.[61] After Edward Verres arrived the group went to his and Tedd's house.[62] At the Verres' house Sarah asked Susan how she met Nanase but Susan didn't tell her much.[63] When Mr. Verres made Ellen cry Sarah wanted to comfort her but Elliot said that it would be better if Nanase did it since Ellen lost Sarah as a girlfriend.[64] When Justin found a note by Mr. Verres that everyone read as a message relevant to themself, Sarah read it as "A cat person may be cute now, but in the long run it wouldn't work well", foreshadowing her breakup with Elliot.[65]
Lunchtable Revelations[]
One day at school in February Sarah wanted to sit with Elliot for lunch so Tedd and Susan also sat with them, but didn't get along well.[66] Sarah wanted to leave with Elliot to make out in a janitor's closet but Elliot instead suggested that the four of them tell each other something about themselves.[67] Sarah told the others that she draws comics and showed Elliot a sketch of Dan.[68] When Tedd let Susan use his glasses Elliot warned Sarah that it had a mode that could see through clothes and Sarah hid her breasts with her arms even after Tedd said that he had disabled that feature.[69]
Night Out[]
Sarah and Elliot went on a double date at the movie theater with Tedd and Grace on Friday, March 1. When Sarah and Elliot arrived at Tedd's house "Grace" hesitated to let them in before she and "Tedd" could "reverse this" but "Tedd" persuaded her to let them in.[70] On the way to the theater "Tedd" asked what movie they would watch even though Tedd was the one who chose it so Sarah explained the premise of Dragonliver.[71] Sarah deduced that Tedd and Grace had switched forms and told Elliot while they were waiting for Tedd and Grace to come back from the restrooms[72] (and indeed they had[73]) Sarah complained about the number of ads before the movie.[74] After the movie Sarah invited Tedd to go to the bathroom together[75] to show Tedd why girls go to the bathroom in groups;[76] however, since she never really went into the bathroom with a group, they ended up doing nothing.[77][78]
Tam Eh Tedd[]
The next morning (March 2) Sarah saw that a newspaper had the obituaries next to the comics and she had an idea:[79] she searched an obituary website for the name Grace to see if Grace is a ghost[80] as Mr. Verres once said "I guess Grace didn't die in that dimension".[81] The search found a girl named Grace Sciuridae who looked like Grace.[82]
Painted Black[]
While Sarah and Elliot were on a walking date later the same day,[83] they encountered Hedge,[84][85] who said that he had to take away Elliot as he thought Elliot was his cousin since he had turned into a cat.[86] Sarah said that Elliot is not Hedge's cousin but was turned into a cat by his ex-girlfriend. Hedge didn't believe her[87] so she kicked him in the groin and ran away dragging Elliot with her[88] but Hedge caught up with them.[89] Sarah unsuccssfully tried to fight Hedge. He asked her how long she had known Elliot and she answered all of her life.[90] Hedge told Sarah that he would take Elliot to the Nest[91] and left.[92]
Sarah called Ellen and told her to take a car to meet her.[93] When Ellen arrived with Susan, Justin and Nanase, Sarah told them that they needed to go to Tedd's house since Hedge took Elliot.[94] When they arrived at Tedd's house[95] Sarah was angry with Grace for living there while having dangerous enemies. Then she saw that Grace had already written a note saying that she would leave for that reason.[96] Their confrontation was awkward because Grace was naked.[96][97] When Tedd couldn't reach his father by phone Sarah asked Grace if she knew where the Nest is.[98] When Grace remembered what the Nest is but said that she didn't know how to get there, Sarah accused her of hiding something and called her "Ms. Sciuridae".[99]
When Elliot and Grace came home from the Nest Tedd hugged them, which at first annoyed Sarah as she wanted to hug Elliot herself but then she joined the group hug.[100]
Sleepy Time and Red Alert[]
The following night Sarah had a dream about fighting off hedgehogs threatening Elliot, who was a cat in the dream.[101]
The next school day (Monday, March 4), Sarah saw that Susan was wearing a Star Trek shirt.[102] As she knew that Susan wears shirts like that when she is upset, she warned Elliot but Tedd found Susan before they could warn him[103] and provoked Susan into a fight.[104] When Tedd learned that Susan was upset he declared that he would support her, which Sarah and Elliot found cute, to Susan's annoyance.[105]
Before the Party[]
Next day (Tuesday, March 5), when Tedd invited his friends to Grace's birthday party, which involved most of them transforming to change their sexes,[106] Elliot said that he wouldn't transform unless Sarah did and Sarah agreed to go to the party and transform, to the surprise of Tedd, Elliot and Susan.[107]
Next day Sarah told Elliot that she had trouble deciding what clothes to give Elliot for the party to play the role of female Elliot's boyfriend. She asked Elliot how he would choose clothes for her and he said that he didn't care, which annoyed Sarah.[108] After the school uniform policy was announced Sarah complained to Elliot and he reassured her that she would look sexy in the school uniform so Sarah decided that he would wear a school uniform for the party.[109]
Grace's Birthday Party[]
When Sarah arrived for Grace's birthday party (on Saturday, March 9) she said that she had been looking forward to it and missed Grace,[110] which made Grace relieved as she had worried that Sarah hated her since she blamed Grace for Elliot's kidnapping. Grace kissed Sarah since Tedd said that they should kiss and make up.[111] Sarah and Grace overheard Nanase and Susan talking about Nanase's feelings for Ellen.[112] Sarah told Grace, who didn't understand the significance of Nanase being attracted to a woman, that they were not supposed to know that.[113] She said that they needed a cover story so Grace styled part of Sarah's hair into a ponytail.[114] When the party guests gathered to give Grace their presents Sarah gave her seat beside Ellen to Nanase.[115] Sarah and Elliot's present was the video game Animal Crossing.[116]
Sarah had a camera to take photos while the party guests were transformed and when she first used the camera, to take a picture of newly female Justin, he was blinded by the camera flash.[117] Then she styled Justin's hair to keep it out of his face.[118][119] When the party guests and hosts took an all-female group photo Sarah arranged it by who had provided clothes for whom for the secret purpose of putting Nanase and Ellen together[120] (Sarah later called the excuse laughable[121] and she didn't put Tedd and Susan together even though Susan had provided Tedd with a school uniform). When newly male Susan challenged Nanase to an arm-wrestling contest Sarah noted to Elliot that Susan's competitiveness was normal for her[122] and she reassured Susan on that point after the arm-wrestling.[123]
When it was Sarah's turn to transform she wanted to put it off until after Grace but Grace said that they would transform at the same time. As Sarah was frightened of the transformation she summoned the Demonic Duck.[124] She asked the others if they found the transformation scary but they didn't.[125] When Tedd tried to reassure her that it was safe Sarah pointed out that it was Tedd's fault that she was scared as Tedd once transformed her into a catgirl.[5] When Nanase suggested making a clone form of as backup Sarah agreed to transform.[126]
When Sarah was about to transform Grace pointed out that Sarah had played Cupid for Nanase and Ellen, which Sarah at first denied but then admitted.[121] Sarah then realized that Ellen was angry with her and left to apologize for her complaining[127][128] (Ellen was indeed angry with Sarah for complaining about a transformation experience that was less tramatic than Ellen's own birth[129]) When Sarah returned to Grace, Grace said that Sarah was being a good mother to Ellen.[130] When Sarah transformed she ended up with the least muscular male form of the group.[131] Grace accidentally made her too short, making her clothes baggy.[132]
As a male, Sarah was highly attracted at the female Elliot,[133] going so far that she was afraid she might have sex with him while being opposite genders. Grace tried to reassure Sarah that Elliot couldn't become pregnant, which Sarah didn't find comforting.[134][135] During the karaoke challenge Sarah sung first.[136] She was surprised that Justin performed well due to choosing his song carefully.[137] When Ellen said that she had the karaoke challenge set up to provide evidence of her second life dreams, Sarah reassured her that they would have believed her anyway and the others agreed.[138]
After they ate cake Sarah praised Tedd's cooking and Tedd told her that she had to be in a female form to cook.[139] After the others left the room for various reasons, Sarah and Elliot tried to kiss but smacked their foreheads together.[140] They tried again and successfully kissed but then Elliot fell of the couch.[141] Then they talked about their attraction and about costumes.[135]
The After Party, Susan Draws The Line and Sister II[]
The day after the party, Sarah hung out at the comic shop with Justin and Nanase. Nanase said that she was angry with Justin for keeping it secret that he and his friends knew that she was a lesbian, which made Sarah feel guilty because she independently made the same decision when she overheard Nanase talking about it with Susan.[142][143] Nanase showed Sarah her spellbook.[144]
Next day (Monday, March 11) Sarah supported Susan in her fight against the school uniforms by wearing a beret to challenge the restrictions.[145] She watched as a group of students decided that they hated Susan, and feminism in general, more that they hated the uniforms.[146] When Principal Verrückt was about to discipline Sarah for wearing the beret, her puppy eyes made him allow it, to Susan's annoyance.[147]
Later that day Sarah took of the beret since she thought it bothered Susan but Susan said that she wanted her to wear it as she appreciated that Sarah had managed to change the school policy on hats.[148] When half the school feminist group joined the campaign against Susan by leaving,[149] Sarah supported Susan and when Catalina suggested recruiting more members, Sarah said that she knew two people who could join them, without mentioning that she was referring to two men, Elliot and Tedd.[150] She suggested asking Victor Von Hip to make pamphlets for the feminist society.[151] After the school day she told Tedd in a chat conversation that she was worried for Susan.[152] The next day Sarah talked to Liz when she joined the feminist society.[153]
When Elliot came back after involuntarily transforming later that day (Tuesday, March 12) and Susan deduced that Elliot was the girl who had been seen in a man's uniform, Sarah dismissed that explanation and was surprised when Elliot confirmed it.[154] She asked Susan what happened to Elliot and how Susan knew.[155] Sarah was present when Edward Verres told Elliot and Ellen about magic.[156] Then Susan called her to tell her that she had been interviewed for TV.[157]
Hammerchlorians[]
When Elliot had to transform during a date with Sarah on April 2, Sarah suggested that he transform to look like her. Sarah was unhappy with the resulting form[158] because it had too large breasts.[159]
On the same day, when Susan realized that the hammers had stopped working she told Sarah[159] and decided to check on the status of the hammer artifact. Sarah invited Grace for the trip and they set off on the next day.[160] During the trip, Grace asked Susan and Sarah why the hammers were important to them and Sarah answered that she wanted to perform magic, and the hammers were the only magic she was capable of using. She said that she didn't resent her friends for having magic but muttered "except Elliot." When Susan asked her what she felt about Elliot's magic, Sarah summoned the demonic duck,[161] who complained about her wasting his talents by summoning him when she couldn't flee.[162] After the duck left, Susan again asked Sarah what she felt about Elliot's magic and Sarah answered that she was bothered that Elliot's female forms were more attractive than her and that his transforming made her less attracted to him.[163] When Sarah and Susan were talking about what could have happened to the hammer artifact, Susan mentioned that she had encountered a monster that was weak to the hammers during the trip to France so Sarah insisted that Susan tell her the entire story.[164]
When they arrived at a motel that evening they found that there were only two beds in the room so Sarah and Susan argued who would share a bed until Grace pointed out that she didn't need a bed since she could turn into a squirrel.[165] Then Susan told Sarah and Grace about her and Nanase's encounter with a vampire in France.[166][167] and how two immortals sent them to kill the vampire[168] and taught her to use the hammers.[169] Then Sarah apologized to Susan and Grace for talking about her magic envy.[170] She became excited to see Grace's full squirrel form.[171]
When they were outside the cave of the hammer artifact on April 5, a jogger told them that he had never seen the cave and Sarah suggested that the wards of the cave made it invisible to those who didn't know about it.[172] After they met Jerry at the hammer cave,[173] Sarah was scared when Jerry blasted Susan with the Serenity beam[174] and punched him for scaring her.[175] When Jerry offered her magic, she was excited, until she learned that she would get the ability to turn into a boy.[176] She rejected this type of magic shortly after thinking about going along with it.[177] After that, Grace suggested letting Tedd design her magic-like stuff instead.[178]
New And Old Flames[]
After Elliot first became Cheerleadra, Sarah was excited for Elliot being a superhero as she had fantasized about being Lois Lane and told him on April 10.[179] When Elliot told her that he wouldn't change into female forms to ogle them, Sarah was surprised and argued with Susan whether his restraint was unhealthy.[180] After Elliot kissed Sarah's sister Carol under the influence of his party girl form on April 12, Sarah was jealous and told him to avoid using that form.[181]
Legends of Celida[]
On May 4, when Sarah asked Susan to play a video game (similar to The Legend of Zelda) together[182] Sarah told Susan that the most important woman character in the game is a damsel in distress except when she turns male.[183] Susan suggested that the character is disguised by illusion magic rather than actually transformed into male form so Sarah called Tedd to ask if transformation or illusion magic is easier.[184] When Sarah told Tedd why she asked, Tedd told her that a manga adaptation unambiguously confirms that the character is actually transformed.[185] When Sarah told Susan that, she suggested ignoring the manga since the game itself leaves the question open to interpretation.[186]
Summer[]
On may 28 (near the end of the school year), when Susan complained about Matt Cohen asking her out despite barely knowing her, Sarah said that it wasn't a big deal as she considered dating a normal way of getting to know each oher and that Matt seemed nice.[187] After Matt said that Susan might regret not dating, Susan became suspicious about his motives but Sarah said that she should give him the benefit of doubt.[188][189]
Later that day Sarah asked Tedd, much to his surprise, if she could be his lab assistant during the summer[190] since she wanted magic.[191] On the night before her first day of working with Tedd (June 7), Sarah dreamed about fighting a monster (inspired by Hedge) as a powerful wizard.[192][193][194]
When Sarah arrived at Tedd's house, Tedd answered the door transformed as Grace.[195] Tedd gave Sarah a watch for a test that required Sarah to be clueless.[7] Sarah hesitated as she worried that the watch might turn her into a catgirl or make her obedient. Tedd offered to reward her with leverage.[196] When Sarah pushed the button on the watch and nothing happened, Tedd shouted "Success!", which made Sarah worried that it might have changed her memories. Tedd told her more about how to use the watch[197] and after none of the safety tests had transformed Sarah, she made her hair longer after Tedd gave her complete instructions.[198] Then Tedd offered her a watch that makes a person able to look exactly like Tedd, in multiple forms, as a sign of trust.[199][200] Sarah didn't want it but Tedd insisted on giving it to prove that she wasn't bluffing.[201] Afterwards Sarah was happy about doing magic.[202]
Later that day Nanase was going to visit Tedd, so Tedd asked Sarah if she was jealous since Nanase used to be Elliot's girlfriend. Sarah denied that she was jealous[203] but then she thought about Nanase and Elliot kissing. When Nanase arrived[204] Sarah was surprised that she walked to Tedd's house.[205] When Tedd said that Nanase possibly has large breasts because she has magic, Sarah said that she wished she had magic.[206] When Nanase mentioned that she had a spell for transforming her hair and lost it after a day due to her magic burnout, Sarah became sad and hugged Nanase.[207] When Tedd gave Nanase a transformation watch, Sarah fantasized about the watch making her fat.[208] When Nanase's hair was growing after she tried to make it shorter with the watch, she asked Sarah to shave it.[209] After she shaved Nanase's hair she apologized but Nanase said that she had no reason to apologize.[210] Then the shaved hair exploded, making Sarah's hair longer.[211]
After Nanase left Sarah told Tedd about her jealous thoughts.[212] Then Tedd told Sarah that he is magically impaired[213] and that he is scared of the magic analysis wand because his parents often used it when he was a baby.[214] Then Sarah asked Tedd to use the watch Nanase tried to use to make her hair shorter, since Tedd suspected that Nanase's accident was because of her burnout rather than anything about the watch.[215] She told Tedd that she had always been interested in transforming.[216] Tedd insisted on testing the watch before giving it to Sarah.[217] Sarah reassured Tedd that nothing that happened when she knew what they were doing would be like the catgirl incident.[6] Then Tedd told Sarah that he wanted to increase everyone's magic resistances to make it safe to give magic to everyone.[218]
On June 12 Tedd told Sarah that he needed to do experiments with clothing and furry morphs[219] and Sarah wanted to do those experiments herself. She wanted Grace for moral support instead of Elliot.[220] Thus Sarah changed into a catgirl on June 15.[221] After transforming, Sarah became worried and changed back.[222] Grace, worried about Sarah flipping between worry and joy, asked how she felt and Sarah answered that it's both cool and fun and weird and scary, but that she would not let that ruin it for her.[223] Then Sarah talked to Tedd about transformation design and became intrigued when he said that he could design every form imaginable.[224] Then Grace asked why Sarah didn't want Elliot with her for the experiments[225] and Sarah answered that he might be offended by her feelings about transformation since he has to transform and that she didn't want to call Elliot as she was annoyed by him never calling her.[226] When Grace compared what Sarah wanted Elliot to be to Ellen, Sarah was surprised to learn that Ellen is different from Elliot.[227]
On June 19, when Susan suggested to Elliot that they meet Sarah and Tedd to ask them for advice for the review show, Elliot said that he hated using phones and didn't remember when he last talked to Sarah and Tedd. Susan angrily told him to call Sarah.[228] Thus Elliot called Sarah and they decided to meet next day.[229] When they met Sarah told Elliot that she wanted to shrink to smaller sizes than Tedd's technology could.[230] She asked him if he was upset by her having fun transforming and he said that he was happy for her.[231] Elliot suggested going on a date and Sarah asked Elliot to decide where but Elliot couldn't decide.[232]
Blanket[]
In the middle of December, when Sarah complained that Tedd's basement was chilly,[233] Grace suggested that the two of them and Tedd should huddle under a blanket.[234] Sarah said that cuddling is generally seen as a thing couples do, but Grace disagreed.[235] Sarah convinced Grace that the possibility of attraction makes cuddling awkward for people who aren't dating.[236] While Grace and Tedd cuddled under the blanket, Sarah blushed as she looked at them.[237]
End Of An Era[]
Just before Christmas (December 23) Sarah told Nanase that she wanted to break up with Elliot[238] but remain friends with him because of his passiveness in planning dates and because they were virgins.[239] Sarah said she would like to encourage a relationship between Elliot and Susan. Nanase compared that to how she broke up with Elliot, which made Sarah surprised that it wasn't Elliot who broke up with her.[240] This made her angry that Elliot was even more passive than she thought.[241] Then Sarah told Nanase that she was putting off the breakup until after new years to avoid ruining the holidays.[242]
When Sarah went to Tedd's house on Christmas Eve to watch movies with, among others, Grace and Elliot, she was nervous about meeting Elliot.[243][244]
Before that time, on December 27, Elliot realized that he had to break up with her because he loved her more like a sister.[245] When he told her that they had to talk,[246] Sarah realized that he wanted to break up with her and worried about why.[247] When Elliot told Sarah why he wanted to break up, Sarah tried to argue against it but realized that it makes sense.[248] Sarah told Elliot that she had planned to break up.[249][250] Then they joked about telling people that Sarah threw a couch at Elliot.[251] When Sarah told Susan about the breakup Susan suggested that Elliot's transforming made Sarah see him as more like a sister but Sarah didn't want to think about that explanation.[252]
Identity[]
Sometime in January Elliot announced the breakup in the review show and Sarah showed up in the show[253] to accuse him of cheating on her with a video game character and throw a couch at him.[254] At school on the day after the video was posted (probably a Wednesday) Cecil approached Sarah about her appearance on the show.[255] A woman said "You have a good heart"[256] Then other men talked to her about comics, video games and video editing.[257] Sarah suspected that they were flirting with her.[258] After she learned from Catalina about the rumor that she and Elliot broke up but remained friends because he was gay,[259] Sarah said that that it made sense[260] but when she heard the reasoning of the comment that started the rumor[261] that suspicion was displaced by contempt for Ronin.[262] Later Sarah suspected that Ronin spread the rumor to flirt with her[263] and asked questions of the men who had approached her to find out who did it.[264]
After Sarah met Ashley the next day, she told Susan that Elliot and Ashley were attracted to each other[265] and suggested encouraging them to date.[266] When Tedd talked about the possibility that Elliot would to transform when about to kiss Ashley, Sarah said that it never happened when she dated Elliot.[267] Then they talked about imagining each other kissing Elliot.[268] When Susan said that she was surprised that people thought she and Elliot were in love with each other, Sarah talked about shipping.[269] Then Sarah decided to ask the men who had approached about Ronin since Susan seeing though Tom's attempt to seduce her and Ashley meeting Elliot showed her that honesty can give results.[270] When she asked them, she learned that most of the men who approached her are gay.[271]
MV5[]
Some time after her breakup Sarah suggested to Grace that they design an "MV5" form, a sexy male form.[272][273] She invited Susan, who disliked the idea.[274][275] Grace invited Ellen, which Sarah found awkward.[276] Grace pointed out that Ellen had lost Sarah as a friend.[277] When Ellen arrived she wore a skimpy dress and Sarah realized that she was nervous too[278] as Elliot had told Sarah that Ellen wears sexy clothing to feel confident.[279]
Sarah argued with Grace whether the MV5 form should be manly.[280] When Grace realized that Sarah and Ellen couldn't talk about the specifics of the design without a visual reference[281] she undressed to demonstrate how the forms would look. Sarah was embarrassed[282] but also thought of how she admires Grace for not being bothered by nudity.[283] She talked to Ellen about why it was awkward.[284] Ellen mentioned that she sees Sarah as a sister,[285] which, along with Elliot feeling the same way about her, annoyed Sarah as she was still attracted to Elliot.[286] Ellen reassured Sarah that she is hot,[287] which caused Sarah to feel attraction to Ellen[288] and think about her sexual orientation but she concluded that she is only one on the Kinsey scale.[289]
When Grace demonstrated male forms Sarah was attracted to them.[290][291] After they had settled on how tall and muscular the MV5 form would be, Ellen suggested deciding on other details, which made Sarah embarrassed so she declared that they should decide on its hair length.[292] She suggested that the form should have unchanged hair length because she was attracted to long-haired male Grace.[293] She told Grace that she would like to see a hunky male form with her own hairstyle[294] so Grace changed into Sarah's (female) form while still topless.[295] Sarah was embarrassed[296] but she decided that she would try to learn not to be bothered by nudity[297] so Ellen undressed to help her with that,[298] which made Sarah so embarrassed that she fled.[299] When Grace changed into a short-haired male Sarah form, Sarah fantasized about tearing off Grace's clothes.[300] After they had finished designing the male forms Sarah was no longer embarrassed by Grace (now in her own, female, form) being topless.[301]
Squirrel Prophet[]
On the Friday after Elliot met Ashley, Sarah went to Salty Crackers Comics with Tedd and Grace[302] to play in a Magickal Gatherings tournament.[303] When Tedd asked what she thought about his Sarah said that she would prefer Tedd's hair ruffled.[304] She planned to make a deck with a theme rather than for winning and specifically to make it out of werewolf-related cards. Mr. Tensaided objected that she should play to win.[305] She tried to convince herself that she wouldn't care if she lost as she expected the regular players to be better at the game but she was nervous about losing humiliatingly.[306]
As she obtained the sealed card packs, she quickly found out she had many vampire cards, including the powerful vampire O.P. Aludrakala, so she'd have a much higher chance of winning by making a vampire-based deck.[307] A vampire-like representation of the side of her personality that wanted to use vampires appeared[308] and tried to persuade her to make a vampire-themed deck to show Tensaided that she could win but Sarah objected that she doesn't like vampires that much because they are often evil.[309] Then a werewolf appeared and said that playing to win was giving in to Tensaided.[310] The vampire argued that she shouldn't avoid using vampires because it would be what Tensaided wanted either.[311] Then Sarah decided to use both werewolves and vampires in her deck.[312]
In the first round of the tournament Sarah was paired with George.[313] In the first game of the round Sarah lost. George gave her advice on the game.[314] Sarah won 1 of 3 games against him.[315] In the second round Sarah played against Tensaided.[316] Thanks to George's advice[317][318] she won 2 of 3 games, beating him.[319] He announced to the entire store that her geek cred was no longer in question and that she is indeed one of them. He also gave her a pair of nerd costume glasses.[318] After Sarah saw Justin with Luke[320] she and Grace shipped them.[321] In the third round Sarah played against Larry, who hit on her. She said that he should be more respectful.[322][323] She tried to tell him how to be respectful but he rejected the notion that women wouldn't want men to hit on them and called her a lesbian.[323][324] She won the round.[325][326]
After the round Tedd told Sarah about his magic mark[327] and his magic intuition.[328] When George overheard them talking about whether Tedd is a wizard, Sarah told him that they were referring to his card game prowess.[329] When Tedd saw Luke using his spell,[330] Sarah and Grace said that he was not necessarily an enemy since they were hoping for his relationship with Luke.[331] Sarah suggested talking to Luke about magic.[332]
In the fourth round Sarah played against Sam.[333] When she talked about her story of defending a forest, he played along with her story by saying that her vampires were the real threat.[334][335] The tactical positions in the game became such that the first one to attack would be at a disadvantage so they summoned more monsters instead.[336] When they talked about their position they realized that Sarah would win due to having more cards.[337] Sarah offered a draw[338] but Sam insisted on conceding.[339] After the game Sarah invited Sam to hang out together. After hesitating because it sounded like a date they decided to do so.[340][341]
When George frowned at Justin and Luke, Sarah realized that he was jealous because he is attracted to Justin.[342][343] Then Justin told Tedd, Sarah and Grace to leave while he talked to Luke so they went to a nearby fast food place.[343] When Justin joined them at the fast food place Sarah asked him about his relationship with Luke[344] and squeed when he answered that they had a date.[345] When they talked about Grace's dreams Sarah suggested that the dreams were right about Rhoda having a magic mark as it could explain how the boar became large.[346]
Question Mark[]
The next day (a Saturday) Sarah found a magic mark on her back.[347] She unsuccessfully tried to find out what it did. When Sarah was undressed to test if she could transform into a werewolf, Carol knocked on her bedroom door.[348] Then she cast her spell, which was a simulated time stop.[348][349] After she met Carol, Sarah cast her spell again[349] and played with it. She accidentally switched bodies with Carol in the simulation.[350]
The next night the immortal Pandora appeared to talk about Sarah's new spell.[351] She warned Sarah that she shouldn't tell Edward about the spell because his government agency might strongarm her into working with them.[352] Pandora told Sarah how the spell works[352][353] and that she has an affinity for it and talked about how to gain the ability to cast it without ambient energy.[353] Then Sarah asked the immortal how old she was and how often she watched Sarah and her friends and learned that immortals can make themselves unobservable even to each other,[354] which Sarah found scary.[355]
Sister 3[]
Pandora visited Sarah again the next day (a Sunday)[356] to tell her about the possibility of magic change.[357] She instructed Sarah to use her spell often to consume the excess ambient energy[358] and vowed to help her awaken.[359] The immortal also told Sarah to show her spell to Tedd. Sarah asked the immortal about her name[360] and the immortal answered "Box". Sarah told Tedd and Grace about the immortal's visit[361] and showed her spell to Tedd.[362] In her simulation Sarah accidentally switched bodies with Grace[363] and then with Tedd.[364] Then she made Tedd's body girly.[365] Then she tested the ability of the simulation to make other people act with an illusion of autonomy. The simulated Grace tacke-hugged Sarah so that she straddled her, which embarrassed Sarah.[366] Sarah and the simulated Grace discussed the nature of the simulation and Sarah decided to end it.[367] When Grace told Tedd that the emissary of Magic had visited her dreams Sarah recalled what she had previously heard about Grace's dreams and realized that "Box" was the immortal who had marked people.[368]
As Tedd was devastated that the magic change would make it impossible to give magic to everyone[369] Sarah sent text messages warning Elliot that Tedd would be in a bad mood. When Elliot didn't reply to the messages Sarah became angry.[370] The next day Sarah used her spell on the way to school[371] and told Susan about it.[372] Later that day Sarah told Elliot that she had overheard people talking about Cheerleadra at school but no one had connected her to Elliot.[373] She told him that some commenters on the latest review show video joked about him being Cheerleadra.[374]
The next Thursday Pandora visited Sarah again.[375] Sarah noticed that Pandora was upset[376] and Pandora told her that she told her son something that she had learned to be a lie.[377] Sarah comforted the immortal,[378] who said that Sarah was a good friend.[379] After the immortal left Sarah realized that Pandora's son is Adrian Raven.[380]
The next day at school Tedd mentioned Sarah's date with Sam, which made Sarah embarrassed. Elliot reassured her that he wouldn't be hurt by Sarah finding love.[381] Then Ashley mentioned her date with Elliot and it was his turn to became embarrassed, as he and Sarah used to have similar dates, and Sarah's turn to reassure him that she didn't mind him pursuing romance as their relationship was over. She also mentioned her own date and was embarrassed when she realized what she had said. Ashley understood why she didn't want to call it a date.[382]
On Saturday Sarah asked Susan what had happened at the mall. Susan refused to tell her much and told her that she felt numb from too many feelings.[383] Then Tedd told Sarah that Pandora (who had told him her real name) had reset to stop vampires and that she had done a modified reset that would preserve genuine memories of those she cared about.[384] Sarah called Adrian Raven[385] and visited him[386] to tell him that his mother cared enough to be upset about misinforming him and about her modified reset. Adrian said that his mother did talk to him before her reset and revealed that he has a daughter.[387]
The Secret of Sam[]
On the Friday after Sarah met Sam, they had their first maybe-date at a movie theater. They came up with a story based on the poster for the movie and were disappointed by the actual movie.[388] They enjoyed making fun of the movie.[389] Sarah was confused that Sam didn't hug her.[390] The following Wednesday, when Grace mentioned the magic change to Sarah, she saw that Sarah was sad because she thought about Pandora so Grace asked Sarah about her not-date to distract her.[391] Thus they talked about the not-date.[389] On the following Friday, when Sarah was at the comic book shop for a Magickal Gatherings tournament, she asked Justin and Luke about their first date.[392] During the card game tournament Sarah was sad because she thought about Pandora.[393]
Reflections[]
On the next Monday, when Elliot invited his friends to a party to introduce them to his new girlfriend Ashley, Sarah thought it felt weird that he took the initiative that way.[394] After Susan turned down the invitation because she didn't want to talk about magic, Sarah told Elliot that Susan was feeling more than she let on about the vampire attack at the mall.[395]
The next day Sarah talked to Grace about how she felt about Elliot taking the initiative and her hope for her relationship with Sam.[396] When Tedd asked if Grace had told Sarah about her encounter with the smoke wizard, Grace told Sarah that she had seen someone who was subtly transformed[397] and that she couldn't tell her who that person was.[398] Sarah complimented Grace about keeping that person's secret and Grace hugged her so that they fell off a couch.[399] Later Sarah told Tedd that part of her didn't want Susan to go to the party since she worried about Susan's reaction to her showing off sexy transformations.[400]
Before the party Sarah went on another date with Sam.[396] Sam told her that he was unsure if he wanted to date her and she suggested kissing to find how he felt about it. Sam decided that he wanted to date Sarah.[401]
When Sarah arrived for the party (on the Saturday after she was invited) she was happy about her date with Sam, which surprised Grace as she thought Sam didn't want to date Sarah.[402][403] Sarah asked Justin about his first date with Luke. Justin said that she was being rude but was willing to tell her anyway.[404] He met Diane and her girlfriend while they were on their own first date.[405] Justin was disturbed by Diane's resemblance to Susan and Sarah felt the same when she heard about her.[406] Later at the party Sarah and Justin talked about Sarah's spell.[407]
When Tedd told the party guests that Susan wanted to invite Diane to the party Sarah hesitated[408] but decided that her feelings about Diane were not a good reason to say no to Susan.[409]
When Susan and Diane arrived Sarah was disturbed by Diane's resemblance to Susan.[410] When Tedd gave Diane the drumstick wand and donned her new glasses and Diane asked about the wand, Sarah interrupted her to ask about the glasses.[411]
When Diane offered to let someone else use the wand, Sarah enthusiastically asked for it since she had always wanted to use a wand.[412] When Sarah used the shrink spell, Ashley shrank smaller than expected.[413] Then Sarah tested the growing spell on herself and found that she only grew to the old limit.[414] Diane asked for a hug since she found Sarah's size to make her huggable.[415] When Elliot said that he wanted to transform, Sarah was happy with the thought of Elliot growing or shrinking but when Elliot mentioned that he wanted to be a girl she was disappointed.[416] Then Sarah offered to hug Susan since Susan had mentioned that she wanted to practice to be more comfortable with hugging.[417]
When Tedd told Elliot that stacking too many enchantments can cause clothes to change back before their wearer and Elliot asked how she found out that, Sarah tried to shrink Elliot from behind to distract them.[418] Nanase said that Elliot should shrink Sarah as punishment (even though Elliot wanted to be shrunk). Elliot objected to taking it that seriously but Sarah insisted that Elliot should shrink her and cast another spell on her.[419] Elliot insisted that Sarah should choose the other spell and Sarah, who was happy about Elliot's assertiveness, asked for female variant number five. Tedd told them that the wand didn't include any sexy transformations[420] so Elliot decided to make Sarah shorter instead of waiting for Tedd to add a new spell to the wand. Then Elliot shrank Sarah.[421] After shrinking, Elliot and Sarah joined Ashley and Grace at the sofa.[422] When Elliot and Ashley decided to change to the normal size, Sarah wanted to remain shrunk but Elliot convinced her that she was punished enough by Elliot realizing why Sarah tried to distract them.[423]
After Elliot came out as gender-casual[424] and after they talked with Tedd about designing a female form[425] Sarah felt guilty so she apologized to Elliot and Tedd for her previous reactions to gender transformations.[426] Tedd pointed out that she used to be a jerk and a pervert who apparently transformed for sexual reasons but Sarah objected that Tedd was overcompensating. Elliot said that it was understandable that Sarah disliked that her boyfriend had to turn into a girl but Sarah insisted that it was inexcusable.[427] She said "So what if my boyfriend isn't "male" all the time" (Grace, who overheard her, realized that she was referring to Sam). Tedd and Elliot declared that they forgave Sarah.[428] When Sarah saw that Grace was there she thought of how she realized that Sam is transgender because of Grace's and Sam's behavior.[429] Then Sarah asked if there are better ways to refer to "female" and "male" forms and Susan suggested "feminine" and "masculine".[430]
When Tedd was telling Diane about her magic research, Sarah encouraged Tedd to tell Diane about her long-term goal to give magic to everyone[431] and was shocked when Diane disapproved of the idea.[432]
When most of the group were transformed by the mirror door, Sarah was transformed into a feminine Elliot, specifically the busty form that they were in when shrinking.[433][434] When Ashley said that she wanted to look at herself in a non-magical mirror and Elliot suggested going to a mirror in a bathroom upstairs, Sarah followed them because she also wanted to look at herself in a mirror.[435][436]
Once upstairs Sarah stayed outside the bathroom with Grace, who also followed them, to give Elliot and Ashley privacy. Grace talked about kissing since they looked like Elliot and Tedd, which made Sarah blush.[437] Then Grace asked Sarah how she felt about being in a busty Elliot form and Sarah said that while she liked fantasizing about being extremely curvaceous in public, she would also like to be tall and to look like herself. She mentioned that she is dating Sam[438] and Grace asked her about their relationship.[439] Sarah told her about her date.[401]
After everyone had transformed back to normal and gone back to the basement, Diane told the group that Adrian Raven is her father.[440] When Tedd talked about Pandora's reset, Susan mentioned that she had met the new Jerry[441] and that he now calls himself Zeus, a name that, as Sarah noted, Jerry had mentioned as an example of bad names for immortals.[442] When Grace mentioned that Raven had told her that he can't have children Sarah told them that Pandora was upset about misinforming him[443] and how she met Adrian.[387]
Balance[]
On the Tuesday after the party, when Susan talked to Catalina about who would have what magic based on their personality in order to make Catalina reveal that she has magic[444] and Catalina didn't reveal anything,[445] Sarah joined the conversation by suggesting that Catalina would have dog magic.[446] Later Sarah told Susan that she had seen in the locker room that Catalina didn't have a magic mark on her back and they concluded that she doesn't have magic.[447]
Sarah was present during Ashley's first magic lesson with the talking wand Kevin on the following Saturday.[448] When Kevin asked Sarah who she is, Sarah said that she thinks wands are cool.[449] Kevin offered to help Sarah train her strength.[450] After Ashley's lesson, Sarah and Elliot talked about Elliot's worry about meeting the griffins Tara and Andrea. Sarah concluded that Elliot was scared of the griffins since he is not used to meeting fighters more dangerous than himself. She also mentioned that Elliot can be scary himself.[451] After Grace confirmed that Elliot used to be scary, Sarah reassured him that he is a good guy since he fights to protect other people.[452]
Our Future[]
A later day Susan cried when Sarah approached her at school[453] and Sarah asked her what was wrong. Susan complained that it didn't make sense for her to cry:[454] she was sad that she would leave her work at Tensaided's video rental store and their school locker made her sad that she would leave school even though its door kept getting stuck.[455] Sarah reassured Susan that it made sense to be sad about change and pointed out that she had friends at school.[456] They decided to hang out more together.[457]
Hope[]
Later Sarah and Sam went to another Magickal Gatherings tournament at Salty Crackers Comics. Sarah insisted that they shouldn't arrive at the last minute (like Sam and some of his acquaintances used to do) so they arrived ten minutes before the tournament began.[458] After they arrived, Sarah talked to Jay[459] as Grace had told her about Jay.[460]
In the first round of the tournament Sarah was paired with George.[461] She lost to George's formidable dragon deck,[462] but George told her that she played as good as she could.[463] In the second round Sarah was paired with Jay[464][465] and lost to her.[466]
Relationships[]
Elliot[]
Sarah has known Elliot since childhood,[239] and, at the start of the comic, had been in love with him for some time. She had tried to make this known, but Elliot had deliberately not acknowledged this, because he was involved with Nanase at the time[36] and because he was afraid that acknowledging her attraction could end their friendship.[36][39][467] However, despite Elliot making a mess of things initially, eventually they ended up together.[468]
However, the relationship wasn't without problem. Their idea of ideal vacation was vastly different[469] and Sarah didn't like Elliot's transformations.[158][163][181]
Recently, Elliot's lack of initiative[239][226] and the even more recent discovery by Elliot that he has a sisterly affection for her[470] led to their ending their relationship on a mutually-agreed note. They remain friends.[471]
Note that Ellen realized she feels about Sarah as sister sooner than Elliot[472] ... and Susan commented that Sarah may not like Elliot changing into woman because he then feels like a sister to her as well.[252]
Even after the breakup Sarah is still attracted to Elliot's male form.[473]
Tedd[]
Sarah used to have a slight dislike of Tedd, and especially the TF gun, due to an accident that occurred pre-EGS that involved her being turned her into a cat, unable to even speak. Sarah didn't completely forgive Tedd for this incident for some time, and it was the source of much anxiety at the start of Grace's transformation-themed birthday party, but she got over it and allowed Tedd to transform her, though she still didn't completely trust Tedd, and thought of him mostly as a pervert. Over the course of the story, especially by the time she became his lab assistant, they've grown much closer to each other along with Grace.
Susan[]
Sarah learned how to summon the hammers from Susan,[42] and joined the feminist club alongside her. Once the hammers stopped working, Susan invited Sarah to come with her to find out what had happened.
Grace[]
Sarah first met Grace when she came to help her pick out clothes. She was the first one to see her transform, (which she naturally blamed Tedd for until she was told otherwise) and surprised Grace by not being afraid of or disgusted by her. During the events of Painted Black, Sarah confronted Grace about her brothers and got her to go save Elliot. During her birthday party, Sarah got on better terms with Grace, and invited her to spend sixteen plus hours with her during the Hammerchlorians storyline, during which she got to know her better. Over the course of the story, especially by the time she became Tedd's lab assistant, they've grown much closer to each other along with Tedd.
Ellen[]
Sarah first met Ellen when Ellen appeared at school as Elliot. Initially she thought Ellen was Elliot until she was told otherwise by Grace. When the Omega Goo attacked, Ellen sensed it and saved Sarah in time. During Grace's birthday party, Sarah went out of her way to pair up Ellen and Nanase as a couple.
Nanase[]
Sarah initially viewed Nanase as the other woman in Elliot's life, but once Nanase broke up with Elliot, Sarah viewed her as a friend. When Sarah discovered that Nanase and Ellen were attracted to each other, Sarah went out of her way to pair them up as a couple during Grace's birthday party.
Justin[]
Sarah first met Justin when she accompanied Elliot to the ASMA Dojo, where she was jealous of his flexibility. She next met him briefly during the Omega Goo fight, again while preparing for the rescue of Elliot during Painted Black, and in brief intervals when everyone was together during Grace's birthday party.
Abilities[]
Artistic ability[]
Sarah has some artistic ability. She is shown drawing Dan's avatar[68] and searching for reference images.[474] She also apparently painted Elliot in cat form and has several art-related books.[475]
Magic ability[]
She came close to getting the ability to turn into a boy during the Hammerchlorians storyline,[476] but subconsciously rejected it. She later decided to have Tedd make her magic-like technology, started helping him with research in Summer,[477] and was shown to use magic to prank Tedd.[478]
Pandora later marked her with a question-mark shaped mark.[479] The spell the mark gives appears to be a spying/investigating spell, possibly similar to what Agent Cranium has.[480] She can create a sort of snapshot or time-frozen copy of her surroundings[481] (the size of the effective area has not been determined yet) and is able to interact with it and look around, then she can snap back to reality. The interaction with snapshot is not instantaneous, she spends some real time doing it, although not as much as it seems to her.[482][483] Inside the snapshot, she can also jump "into" other people and move them that way.[484] This part of spell seems to be on a hair trigger, happening even when Sarah doesn't really mean to.[485]
Sarah got the spell because she has an affinity for it.[486] Jerry didn't notice because this affinity is hard to detect, and also because the spell is extremely energy hungry - Sarah wouldn't be able to cast it outside of Moperville's magical anomaly.[487] To be exact, it's the copying of reality at start of spell which requires so much energy - the upkeep for doing something inside the snapshot is minimal.[488][489]
While inside the simulation, Sarah can modify it in ways that ignore laws of physics.[490] Unlike "normal" interactions like opening doors, these kind of changes will diminish the accuracy of a frozen moment: her imagination and expectation will start changing what's around her.[491] These modifications include "unfreezing" people and make them move[492] - as it wouldn't actually be them, it would be Sarah's mind - and, apparently, subconscious - moving them. So far it seems it has a similar learning curve as Nanase's Fox.
Keeping it secret[]
Sarah was warned to keep this spell secret from Edward Verres (and therefore DGB)[352]. She was careful when showing it to Tedd[362] by not casting it in his house ... although her text message to Grace (on a phone Edward might be able to tap) about it was suspicious[493] and just few weeks later, she described it during the party in Tedd's house[407] ...
Driving[]
Although Sarah doesn't seem to have her own car, she drove Elliot's car[62] once after the fight with the goo monster.
Alternates[]
- Dark Sarah (April Fool's 04)[494] - Dark Sarah is much moodier than the normal Sarah, wears all black (including fishnet stockings), and has most of her hair dyed black as well. She wears platform shoes to appear taller and to be more able to "stomp out of a room in disgust".[495]
- Sarah (Oblivious Wand Waving)[496] - Despite having the same name as the main universe Sarah, this version of Sarah is male; he is dating Grace.
- Casual Sarah - A variant of Sarah in the patreon pinups, this slightly older version of Sarah has lost any form of nudity taboo. This goes beyond merely not caring about the occasional wardrobe complication while testing with Tedd and enters the worrying as she begins to stop caring about putting clothes back on after a malfunction and ultimately starts to even forget about her nudity / clothes outright—almost leaving Tedd's lab while naked on several occasions and starting to show up at his lab occasionally without clothes, having never gotten dressed in the first place. Tedd's concerned that this might not be "natural," but is too nervous to bring it up.

Trivia[]
- Sarah attends Moperville North, and draws comics that feature Dan, strangely enough.[68]
- Dan Shive has said that in his high school comics, she was much more of a main character, and that he hates that she's become a background character in El Goonish Shive.
- Carol Brown, previously known only as a reporter, is in fact Sarah's elder sister.
- This fact is made more interesting in that, during Elliot's dream in the Sleepy Time storyline, Sarah was dreamt by Elliot as being a reporter,[497] which foreshadows Carol's appearance and her relationship to Sarah. It is not known if Dan intended this or if it is just a happy coincidence.
- Sarah works at a convenience store a few blocks away from the Video Rental Store Susan works at.[498]
- "Wizardish Sarah," as seen in her dream at the start of Power Fantasy, is six feet tall, making her nine inches taller than normal Sarah and two inches taller than Elliot.[193]
- Sarah ships Frodo/Sam, Sherlock/Watson and Kirk/Spock.[499]
- Sarah likes to sleep in on Saturday.[475][479]
- And in Summer.[500]
- Sarah might be most huggable character in EGS, but we are still counting.
Cat girl incident[]
The catgirl incident has never been shown "on camera," and is only referenced in bits and pieces. What we know is:
- Tedd and Sarah were assigned to work on a school project together.[8]
- Tedd turned Sarah into a catgirl, with a tail. It was an accident - he thought the gun didn't have enough power to fire; instead, it had enough power to transform her, but then overloaded and Sarah had to wait to change back. She had to ditch school, and she couldn't call in sick because she could only say "meow".[5]
- She wasn't actually angry because he transformed her into a catgirl. She was actually because it was without her permission ... out of nowhere ... and she couldn't undo it ... and could only say "meow".[6]
- Dan Shive has said that the incident involving Sarah as a catgirl stemmed from a pre-EGS storyline in which Tedd was doing a science project with her and turned her into a form that was part Pikachu,[501] leaving her only able to say her name, and with a monkey-like tail after turning back, which she elected to keep rather than trust Tedd to remove it.[502][503] This storyline was the very first EGS related story Dan ever made and predates the existence of Grace in any form. Unfortunately, Dan is unaware of the location of those comics as they were done in high school before EGS went online.[502]
Sarah being a prude ... or not?[]
Sarah was established from start as a "prude"[504] not even wanting to wear a bikini[505] ... and even recently the presence of her close friends partially undressed can cause her to flee.[506]
On the other hand, even near the start of comics it was suggested she's furry,[475][65] she tried to back out of an awkward situation by openly announcing that she was going to drag her boyfriend into the janitor's closet to make out,[67] she thought that buying porn magazines for anatomy references was a good idea,[507] bought a mirror to pose for her own anatomical studies,[508] and she's joked about having Elliot engage in cross-dressing.[135] She also immediately thought about sex when seeing Grace preparing to run away naked.[97]
Moreover, she was always interested in transformations,[216] and she openly admitted being worried about still being a virgin.[239]
She also somewhat openly ships Frodo/Sam, Sherlock/Watson and Kirk/Spock.[499]
While it's possible she is changing from "prude" to "pervert" due to all the influence of Tedd,[509] Grace[510] and her spell,[511] all the links (and others I forgot) points to her ALWAYS having very vivid sexual imagination ... and her embarrassment might been CAUSED by that, like if she is/was scared of that part of her imagination/personality.
Alternate take: Self-conscious Sarah[]
An alternate take on this is that Sarah is not prudish (or perverted), but rather extremely self-conscious, to the point of having trouble joining in on things she wants to do at times - such as playing with Tedd's transformation technology - because of it. (This would be the textbook definition of a phobia - Gymnophobia, specifically - which Grace all but describes when consoling Sarah after a panic attack.)[512]
As mentioned above Sarah has a fairly normal fantasy life for a girl her age, and we can even see during certain point of view strips that she has some very bold thoughts indeed - for example she was willing to buy a mirror to use to draw herself in the nude,[508] idly fantasizes about Grace undressing fully while shapeshifted as her,[513] and admires Grace for her complete lack of a nudity taboo.[283]
However, at the same time she is left so self-conscious around her partially dressed friends that she is sent into a panic attack by their partial nudity,[299] and openly states that she wishes to overcome her being so self-conscious about "worrying about who sees what."[298] Despite these hangups, she is later - after lots of fanservicey goofing around with Grace-as-Male-MV5-Sarah - completely unfazed by Grace hanging out while topless.[514]
