Nanase and Her Fox is the sixty-third storyline chapter in EGS:NP. It started with the EGS:NP Comic for 2023-09-12 and ended with the EGS:NP Comic for 2024-03-05.

Summary[]
Mrs. Kitsune asked Nanase why she no longer put away her used clothes like she used to. Nanase didn't tell her mother that she used to make her summoned duplicate Fox put away her clothes but that no longer worked after that second magic change. Instead she lied to her mother and felt guilty about lying.[2] Thus Nanase decided to ask Tedd to help her figure out how to use Fox.[1]
Nanase visited Tedd on the following Saturday, which was before Tedd's haircut during Layers, Part 1.[1] Ashley and the wand Kevin were there.[3] After Kevin and Nanase introduced themselves, Kevin noted that Ashley is magically weak compared to her friends.[4]
Nanase told Tedd that she wanted to test Fox and that it could be embarrassing if she did it at home or with Ellen.[5] Ashley was impressed when she heard about Fox.[6] This made Nanase happy as she had wanted to impress Ashley (as mentioned in Reflections). Ashley fantasized about using the duplicate spell to flirt with Elliot.[7] Then Nanase showed Tedd her spellbook. Tedd mentioned that Nanase could make trades to decrease the casting cost of her spell.[8] Kevin asked Tedd about making trades.[9]
Tedd listed trading options to list casting cost that were listed in Nanase's spellbook, including one that would make Fox naked.[10] Ashley fantasized about herself summoning a naked duplicate.[11] Kevin declared that he and Ashley should observe Nanase's experiments to learn about trades to make spells easier.[12]
Then the narrator recapped why Nanase wanted to impress Ashley[13] before Nanase summoned Fox.[14] Tedd asked Nanase to solve a math problem (Nanase discovered in Balance, Part 1 that her thinking is impaired when she has Fox summoned) but Nanase pointed out that it was too hard to solve quickly even without Fox.[15] Nanase said that she is only impaired when she makes Fox do a task, so Tedd made Nanase and Fox play a puzzle game.[16][17] Kevin said that he couldn't see what they were doing as he has different senses from humans.[18] Tedd asked Kevin what he knew about Fox and Kevin told him that Fox's artificial intelligence runs off Nanase's mind and that the alternative, unless absurdly powerful, would result in animal-like behavior as artificial intelligence is hard.[19] Thus Ashley fantasized about herself having a summoned duplicate that clucked like a chicken.[20] Tedd asked if Arthur was absurdly powerful to make Kevin, but Kevin explained that building him was not quite as hard as instantly summoning something with Kevin's intelligence would be.[21]
After they had confirmed that Nanase was impaired when she had Fox summoned, Tedd said that she could use more magic but that it might make it hard to do more tests. Kevin said that Nanase could try focusing on what she wanted her spell to do.[22] Ashley was concerned that focusing might be hard, based on her experience playing with her boyfriend Elliot's magic, but didn't say anything since she thought warning Nanase might harm her focus instead.[23] Then Nanase concentrated on Fox folding clothes while summoning her. This time Fox wound up having fox ears and a tail.[24] Fox tried to undress Nanase in order to fold her clothes.[25] Nanase stopped her by focusing on stopping her. [26] Nanase told Tedd and Ashley that she had a new spell that could give herself or other people animal ears and tails; she was embarrassed to mention this as she had played with it with her girlfriend Ellen.[27] Tedd realized that Nanase had combined two spells, which was previously unknown.[28] Then Tedd gave Fox a basket of clothes to fold, which caused Fox to smile, as she smiles whenever she does a task that she's been summoned to do.[29] Ashley fantasized about Nanase making her pet Fox.[30]
When Nanase played the video game while Fox was folding clothes, she performed almost as good as without Fox.[31] Tedd told Nanase that she could reduce the casting cost by making herself or Fox smaller.[32] Ashley suggested that Nanase should put on more clothes as a precaution against shrinking out of her clothes.[33] After Nanase had put on an extra shirt, she summoned Fox and shrank herself.[34] She found herself with Fox's breasts on her own eye level.[35] Kevin could confirm that this way of summoning Fox was more energy efficient as he could sense that it depleted her energy less.[36] Then Nanase successfully inhabited Fox to see from her eyes and make fox pat her head.[37] That made Ashley impressed.[38] Then Nanase tried playing the video game again; she found the controller bigger[39] and probably for that reason she did badly, but Fox did better than Nanase did without Fox. Nanase suggested that Fox could play better due to having better focus (as Diane and Charlotte speculated in So A Date At The Mall) and concluded that Fox could work like she used to with extra power.[40] Tedd suggested that she was done with her testing but Nanase wanted to try more trades for saving magic energy.[41]
Nanase said that she wanted to trade her strength for Fox's performance. Ashley was surprised to hear that Nanase is that strong since she doesn't look very muscular.[42] Thus Nanase demonstrated her strength by lifting Ashley above her head.[43] Kevin told Tedd about a hypothesis that a person's magic potential can boost their strength and that this sacrifices some of the magic power they would have otherwise.[44]
Then Nanase summoned a taller and more muscular Fox and made herself shorter.[45] Ashley found the shorter Nanase cute; she isn't attracted to muscular feminine forms.[46] Nanase wanted a way for herself to look like the muscular Fox and Tedd suggested that they could scan Fox for a clone form.[47] When Ashley explained to Kevin what clone forms are, Kevin noted that the ability to look like other people is dangerous in the wrong hands.[48] Tedd (who had changed into a feminine form) told Nanase that she was unsure is transforming into a muscular form makes people stronger.[49] While Tedd and Nanase were talking, Ashley made herself taller.[50] Kevin asked if there were any other possible trades for summoning Fox; Nanase and Ashley both pictured Nanase making her breasts smaller while summoning a busty Fox.[51] Then Ashley asked if trading age would make the caster older or younger[52] and pictured an old Nanase becoming younger by "sacrificing" her youth to cast a spell.[53]
Nanase said that she would like a spell to make her look muscular like Fox; Kevin said that she should work to get one.[54] Nanase said that she couldn't control what spells she got and that she hadn't got any new spells lately, but Kevin explained that magic users can control what spells they get by working hard for it after they are out of the phase when they get new spells easily and chastised Nanase for using magic casually instead of exercising.[55] Nanase thought Kevin had a point, so she asked him how to train her magic.[56] Kevin said that she should exert herself with magic while focusing on what magic she wanted.[57]
Then Kevin told Tedd about his advanced training spells, such as an intentionally inefficient levitation spell and a growing spell that requires the caster to continuously feed it magic energy in order to maintain.[58] That made Tedd happy about the thought of be able to design custom training spells.[59] However Kevin said that he couldn't teach the training spells right then as he needed to rest. Kevin also noted that he had left Ashley unsupervised as she hasd transformed into a catgirl.[60]
Ashley was worried that the spells she most wanted were indulgent rather than spells for helping others.[61] Tedd noted that magic might generally favor selfish spells as magic users are tempted to use them ofter while spells for helping others are only situationally useful.[62] She also pointed out that Ashley would eventually be able to copy helpful spells since she is a wizard. Ashley explained that she was concerned about what it says about her that she might not be able to get any selfless spells, and was then ashamed that she was concerned about her self-image.[63] Nanase told her that it was understandable that she wanted indulgent spells as she had access to exciting spells designed by Tedd and boring training spells.[64] Nanase also said that Ashley had to play with magic to stay motivated.[65] Ashley became enthusiastic about playing to stay focused.[66]
Nanase decided that she shouldn't make Fox to her chores as she didn't want to become lazy when she moveed to the university dorms.[67] She also said that she should train her magic, though she didn't really want a spell to be stronger but only wanted to look muscular.[68] However, she thought she should get a power-up spell, and she hoped that packaging it with a cosmetic spell would help her get it.[69]
