  • About the copyright: I'm sure one look at List of All Comic Transcripts is enough to realize that if Dan would not like this wiki the fair use wouldn't help us. I actually asked the previous admin about this; his reply was:

I'm not sure of Dan's current opinion on transcripts here but I had a Twitter conversation with him a couple years ago regarding the image use on the transcript pages and I had linked to one of the pages so I'm sure he's aware of it. Apparently, as long as the wiki doesn't act as a mirror site he's okay with it.

... of course, I'm not sure how to set license to say this. {{Permission}}?

PS: I would also not copy recent comics here, but seeing how many years we are behind with the transcript this is not likely to became concern :)

    • Well, it's the first time I've uploaded a picture here and I didn't really know what to do, so I pressed the "Add Photo" button and when I was prompted for copyright info I just looked at another picture (the main one in Elliot, specifically) and copied what I found there. Maybe if I had checked more pictures, I would have seen other choices?

For the transcript pages, it may well be that {{Permission}} is the alternative closest to reality, although we should probably ask him again at some time, now that there are only thumbnails and not full-size pictures available, and try to get a more positive response than "might be okay". The cutouts used to illustrate specific characters, on the other hand, are a slightly different matter, both because they are cutouts rather than the whole work and because their use -- as far as I understand -- is more in line with the fair use rationale. Not that it would hurt getting permission for that as well, of course...  :)

    • I suspect you wouldn't :). Most pages added by me are without license, which is even worse. What I DO try is to add link to source comics for every image - I mean, I always add one for image I'm uploading and I've edited some images description when I was adding them to other page or something ...

And the images on transcripts are full images, even through only thumbnails are shown. I would like some license saying something like "This is image is copyrighted by Dan Shive and is part of source material this wiki is about." but I'm not sure how to make it and add to the menu ... hmmm ... there is some question about it ...

  • Hello, I'm glad that I'm not only one editing this wiki, and double so as you are doing something which I would not dare, but are you sure you are not overdoing it with the tense changes? For example, when you write "Elliot, however, didn't like to travel", it sounds like he likes to travel now ...

    • Well, yes, I wasn't really sure about that one either, but I thought it better to change everything first and then go over it again at a later time to fix the more awkward parts (although I did manage a few on the run). In the end, large parts may need to be completely rewritten to better fit the past-tense perspective, and I didn't really have the time to do more than a quick once-over (I had a twenty-minute window to post within to make it count for the "Key to the Wiki" badge). That was also the reason I only did the first part, rather than the whole article. (Then I got sidetracked into fixing some other stuff instead of signing off for the day as I had planned, but that's another story...)

In any case, good job fixing some of those awkward parts; I'll be back taking another look at them tomorrow. I should point out, though, that in the very first sentence I don't feel it is obvious at all which of the two parts of the page the time reference belongs to (if indeed it doesn't belong to both), so "(not counting last two panels)" isn't necessarily correct.  ;p

    • Well ... I hope that you will have more luck in the "finish what I started" department that I did :).

Not counting the last two panels OF PREVIOUS ARC. The time skip technically happened INSIDE the previous arc. Although maybe it would be simpler and less confusing to simply write it's six months after the START of previous arc.

    • Oh, right! Duh! How come I didn't even think of reading it that way? (Especially considering my interpretation would have required it to be "the last three panels"...)
