Jestful Statement is the fifty-sixth storyline in EGS:NP. It started with the EGS:NP Comic for 2021-11-23 and ended with the EGS:NP Comic for 2022-03-19.
In this storyline, Grace experiments with announcing the intention of what she says, which, together with her attractiveness, causes other people at school to notice her. This causes her to think about whether she wants to avoid attracting attention and she decides to be herself even if it might attract attention. Thus she attracts even more attention by showing off her strength and eventually makes more friends.
The storyline has been stated by the author in social media to be canon.[1] Also it was stated in the commentary to the last comic in the storyline that the in-universe outcome of the storyline was canon.[2]
Summary[]
At gym class, before Grace and her classmates were going to play volleyball, Grace's teammate Camelia said "Let's kick their butts!" and Grace expressed agreement in a way that made her teammates think she was taking it literally.[3]
Grace complained to Diane about people thinking she took metaphors literally.[4] When Grace talked about how to avoid being misunderstood, Diane compared her suggestion to the elcor of Mass Effect, who announce the nuances of that they mean, and Grace decided to speak like the elcor.[5]
When Grace met Ellen, she hesitated before greeting her because she couldn't decide how to announce her intention.[6] She told Ellen that she had decided to announce her intention.[7] Ellen asked her if it was necessary and Grace asked her if she knew when Grace is joking.[8] Ellen warned Grace that people would make fun of her but Grace thought they wouldn't make fun of her more than they already did. Then Grace was startled by the bell announcing that the next lesson would begin.[9]
In class they had a team exercise.[10] While working on the exercise with her team, Grace announced her intent and explained what she was doing. One of her classmates was surprised that she, a woman, made an effort to be clear.[11] When Grace spoke to the entire class, Grace similarly announced her intended tone, which her classmates found cute.[12]
Justin eavesdropped people talking about Grace. The people he overheard were impressed by her effort to be clear and found her hot. They believed she was dating Ellen.[13] Justin told Grace about what he had overheard.[14] Nanase complained about Grace and Ellen hugging her too little compared to how ofen they hugged each other since there were no rumors about either of them dating her.[15] When Justin talked more about the people who found Grace cute and were impressed that a woman made an effort to be clear about what she meant, Nanase said that it was understandable that the men expected women to be confusing if they had dated Diane or Lucy when they were jerks or herself when she was in denial about being a lesbian,[16] but Ellen said that it's a problem that gender roles make it hard for people of different genders to communicate.[17] Grace was unhappy that she had caused men to be attracted to her. However, she hoped that the men might hug each other because of their shared attraction to her but Justin told her that they wouldn't.[18]
Ellen told Grace that she was always attractive and the only thing that was new was that she was drawing attention to herself, which made Grace alarmed.[19] Grace thought about how she saw people noticing her as a disaster because she wasn't allowed to make friends because of her secrets.[20] Grace also realized that is an extrovert and her friends are introverts.[21] After thinking about the conflict between her desire to make friends and the secrecy,[22] she decided to stop making an effort to avoid being noticed.[23]
Meanwhile, several people were talking about Grace, including Camelia and her friend, who was worried that they had upset Grace.[24]
Grace walked on her hands in a hallway, with her backpack on her leg.[25] When she was told off by a teacher, she made a high leap to land on her feet and, in the same motion, threw her backpack and caught it with her arms without touching it with her hands.[26] Those who saw her (other than Ellen) were rendered speechless.[27]
The next day, at gym class again, Camelia approached Grace to apologize for the event that caused Grace to announce her intent and to ask why Grace hadn't shown off her strength while playing volleyball.[28] Grace pointed out that extreme strength is not very useful in volleyball but Camelia wanted to see her spike the ball as hard as she could.[29] Conan, who is very muscular, challenged Grace for a contest of who could spike the ball hardest.[30][31] The teacher approved the contest.[32] When Conan spiked the ball, Grace decided not to hold back since she wasn't sure how strong she is.[33] Grace spiked the ball so hard that it knocked her out after bouncing three times.[34]
The teacher ordered her to go to the school nurse's office and Camelia to accompany her.[35] On the way to the nurse's office Camelia asked Grace if she was injured and Grace was confident that she wasn't and talked about how the nurse would examine her.[36] Camelia asked Grace how she became so strong. Grace mentioned martial arts and Camelia compared her to Nanase, which made Grace relieved.[37] When they arrived at the nurse's office and Camelia left, Grace was happy about making new friends without them suspecting too much. She missed the rest of the class as it took some time before the nurse was convinced that she was healthy.[38]
After Grace came back from the nurse's office she hugged Nanase and thanked her.[39] When Grace explained that she was thanking Nanase for making her seem less weird, Nanase mentioned that there were many different rumors about what kind of ball knocked Grace out.[40] Justin said that Grace shouldn't show off her strength but Grace thought people didn't see it as that weird.[41] Just after Justin asked Grace who challenged her, Conan approached Grace and Justin blushed.[42] Conan apologized to Grace.[43] Conan talked about how his family can easily build muscles but also easily become fat.[44] Grace wondered if Conan had been subconsciously flirting with her and got lost in thoughts about that and tangents about Conan's height and other tall people.[45] Just as Grace thought that she had to subtly imply that she is in a relationship, Ellen approached them and Grace hugged her.[46] Conan was flstered by their hug. He left and Grace didn't realize that her hug might have encouraged rumors about her dating Ellen.[47] Then Grace thought how she wasn't as sure of whether people were attracted to her as she was about their attraction to other people. She thought of how she had made many people blush, including Sarah, and the possibility that Sarah was attracted to her made Grace blush herself.[48]
Then Grace made more friends as her popularity grew. There were different rumors about who she was dating, including Nanase, which pleased Nanase.[49]
