"@#%$ logic. I'm a female bisexual duplicate of Elliot, and I can shoot green rays of light from my hands. And I'm fighting a blob of goop. Logic has nothing to do with any of this."
—Ellen to the Goo[10]

Ellen Danielle Dunkel is the female duplicate of Elliot. She was magically split from him by the Dewitchery Diamond in the Sister story arc. During her introduction, she initially believed herself to have less than a month to live, and because of that, she desperately strove to sabotage Elliot's life. After a few failed attempts at doing evil deeds, the sight of Sarah, Elliot's girlfriend, snapped her out of it. After heroically battling the Goo, aided by several of the other primary and secondary cast members, she was soon integrated into Elliot's family as his twin sister. Since the end of the Grace's Birthday Party story arc, she has been in a relationship with Elliot's former girlfriend, Nanase.

Ellen is outgoing and playful, and although she shares a great deal of memories and feelings with Elliot, she has developed her own set of personality traits. Compared to Elliot, she has fewer inhibitions; as a result, she is more impulsive. The differences aren't always as radical as they may seem, however, as she has a habit of exaggerating them. Although technically attracted to both males and females, Ellen isn't comfortable with the thought of being with a man, nor is it something she wants; therefore, she considers herself to be a lesbian.[11] After reading more verbose descriptions of sexuality and gender, she may be considering "bisexual homoromantic" as well.[12]

Creation of Ellen by Dewitchery Diamond

Ellen first came into being as the result of an accident that was later revealed to have been orchestrated by Magus as part of a convoluted plan by Pandora:[13] On January 29 Tedd, under the influence of Magus manipulating his emotions,[13] transformed Elliot into a girl with the Transformation Gun.[14][15] Magus then sabotaged the transformation gun,[13] meaning he could not be changed back.[16] Unwilling to wait the full month it would take for the effect of the Female Variant #5 (FV5) transformation to wear off,[17][18][19] Elliot (on the next day, January 30) sought out the Dewitchery Diamond, an enchanted diamond designed to remove curses which was being held in a government facility,[20][21] unaware of the method by which the diamond would remove his "curse".

When Elliot touched the diamond, the "curse" of being female wasn't just removed: it was split off into a second person, thus creating Ellen.[22] Believing herself to be the embodiment of the Female Variant #5 itself, rather than a true duplicate of Elliot whose "default" gender was female, Ellen thought herself to have less than a month left to live before she would vanish, as that was when the FV5 transformation would have worn off.[23] Scared and desperate, she snapped and assumed the persona of Elliot's "evil" twin.[24][25] She escaped from the facility through a second-story window[26] and on the next day (Thursday, January 31) made it back to Elliot's school,[27] where she attempted to do evil deeds in order to ruin Elliot's life, and thus live up to the "evil twin" persona.[25]

Ellen...

  1. ...failed to get into trouble for watching the girls get changed for gym in their locker room.[28]
    • This was due to the obvious fact that she herself was female.
  2. ...told off Elliot's Science 101 teacher for his insensitive attitude.[29]
    • She asked for her behavior to get her into trouble only as an afterthought,[29] which is why it didn't work.
  3. ...tried to get Elliot into trouble by suggesting inappropriate subjects for an impromptu speech.
    • Her first suggestion (PMS) was apparently an acceptable topic of discussion, which caused her to summon the demonic duck and run away from embarrassment.[30]
  4. ...threatened Tony for bullying Tedd,[31] which was something Elliot had also been tempted to do.
  5. ...told the school's principal Verrückt the truth about the Hitler-esque appearance his wig (and mustache) gave him (which actually helped the man rather than insult him).[32]

Seeing Sarah[32] caused Ellen, ashamed by her actions, to panic[33] and run into the bathroom.[34] Sarah, unaware of the events at the PTTAPUTASF, and thus thinking she was Elliot, tried to cheer her up; Ellen kissed her and said goodbye, as she intended to run away and never return.[35]

However, Ellen had barely made it out into the hallway before she sensed the Goo Elliot had previously fought, and had to turn around to save Sarah from it.[36] Urging Sarah to leave the area, Ellen decided to take the monstrosity on by herself,[37] but she was eventually joined by Grace, Greg,[38] Susan,[39] Nanase and Justin.[40] During the battle, Ellen discovered that she had the ability to shoot a transformation beam from her hands,[41] and that it had a stun effect on the shapeless Goo.[42]

During the fight Nanase approached Ellen to tell her that she wouldn't die because she is a duplicate. Then the Goo restrained them[43] and tried to kill them. Grace saved Ellen and Nanase by her telekinesis.[44][45] Intimidated by Grace's power as she assumed her first Legion Form,[46] the Goo gathered all its mass into a single spot to transform,[47] leaving it open for Ellen to finish it off by jumping into its mouth while stunning it with her beam and unleashing the Tamashii Gekido technique she had inherited from Elliot.[48] With the goo body destroyed,[49] the vulnerable Demon Nuclei was revealed,[50] and Ellen promptly crushed it with her foot.[51]

They were joined by Tedd, Elliot,[52] and Tedd's father, Edward Verres.[53] The whole gang, excluding Greg, soon returned to the Verres residence to figure out what to do about Ellen.[54][55]

Mr. Verres told Ellen that she couldn't be Elliot but would have to be her own person from that point on, which made her cry.[56] Elliot sent Nanase to comfort her[57] so Nanase approached Ellen, who was hiding under a table.[58] Ellen insisted that they should introduce themselves as if they hadn't met[59] and Nanase encouraged her to introduce herself to the others in the same way.[60][61]

When Mr. Verres mentioned that Tedd had a machine for testing the transformation gun,[62] Ellen became angry (since the incident that eventually led to Ellen's birth started with Tedd testing the transformation gun on himself[63] and the existence of the testing machine meant that testing it on himself was unnecessary) and transformed Tedd into a female form.[64] When Ellen learned that Mr. Verres had left a note on the fridge saying that he would bring home materials for making more transformation guns (meaning that Elliot could have changed back to normal in a few days without the Dewitchery Diamond),[65] she became so angry that Elliot had to restrain her from attacking Tedd until she learned that the note was illegible.[66]

Mr. Verres took care of the paperwork regarding her new, fabricated past,[67][68] arranging for her to go to school at Moperville South High School with Nanase and Justin.[69] Returning to the Dunkel home with Elliot,[70] Ellen was instantly (and comically) accepted by her parents,[67] and was all ready to begin her new life.

Lady Mysterious[]

A week later (Thursday, February 7) Ellen received a visit from Grace, now disguised with what she referred to as her "Claire form".[71][72] With no school to go to yet, the two of them would have a lot of free time on the weekdays, so Grace had come to the conclusion that they should spend time with each other (or "play together"). Ellen accepted Grace's offer.[73] The two then played video games at Tedd's house.[74] When Tedd came home that day, Ellen and Grace welcomed him in the Claire form and Grace's usual form.[75] Ellen asked Tedd to guess who was Grace.[76] Then the three had a photo shoot.[77] Afterwards Ellen showed Elliot the photos, including one where Grace and Ellen kissed Tedd's cheeks.[78]

Later Ellen and Grace presumably would spend much of their free time playing video games. Other activities included Ellen attempting to teach Grace self-defense, and the two of them having tea-parties with Grace's stuffed animals.[79]

Night Out[]

About a month after Ellen's birth (late February) Nanase, disappointed that Ellen wasn't coming to their martial arts class, followed Elliot's advice to invite Ellen to a night out with Nanase and Justin,[80][81] and contacted her through her Fairy Doll spell.[82] Escaping from the Dunkel family cat, Brownie, the fairy-sized Nanase accidentally collided with Ellen, and found herself (more to her own embarrassment rather than Ellen's) caught in Ellen's tank top.[83] The two soon decided that they would be renting a movie that Friday night. Nanase then returned to her body which was with Elliot and Justin, leaving behind the fairy doll her spell had created. As a result, Ellen decided to get Nanase a phone for Christmas.[84]

That Friday (March 1), Ellen was once again visited by fairy-Nanase[85] (who found herself a victim of Grace's obsession with dressing up dolls), who informed her that she was on her way there with Justin.[86] Ellen asked Elliot what to wear but he looked away because she was naked.[87] When Nanase arrived at the door, the very first thing Ellen did was compliment her, telling her that she looked great with a ponytail, and Nanase blushed slightly.[88] At this point, Nanase thought herself to be attracted to Ellen purely because of pheromones produced by the effects of Female Variant #5,[89][90] unaware of the fact that Ellen produced no such pheromones.[91]

Once at the Video Rental Store, the three ran into Susan, who was just there to pick up her paycheck from Mr. Tensaided.[92] After informing Susan about their plans, they agreed to watch the movies at Susan's home rather than Ellen's, due to Susan's home having a much larger television set,[93] and proceeded to look for some things to rent. Ellen soon noticed that Nanase was upset about something, not knowing about the attraction Nanase was feeling towards her, and decided to try to cheer her up by swatting at her ponytail, yelling "MEOW" as she did so.[94] She succeeded in making Nanase laugh with her catlike behavior, but was told by Nanase that she was making it worse.[95] Before long, they had picked out a number of movies[96][97] and left the store with Justin and Susan.[98]

At Susan's house, Ellen decided to continue the "cat" joke by pretending to catnap on top of Susan's 64" widescreen TV.[99] This made Nanase, who was already worrying about what she'd seen of Ellen's unusual sleeping habits, ask why she was often sleeping in the afternoon. Before Ellen could answer she was sidetracked by Susan requesting to see her in private.[100] Susan asked Ellen to temporarily transform her with the FV5 beam.[101] Susan explained that she wanted to experience being attracted to women because lesbians wouldn't have to deal with men (apparently she mistakenly thought that FV5 would make her lesbian)[102] and Ellen convinced her that not all men are jerks.[103] Ellen then told Nanase about her busy schedule of watching late-night television, exercising with Elliot, and spending time with Grace, and Nanase was relieved to know that her sleeping habits weren't a serious problem.[79]

As the night progressed, Ellen occasionally found herself falling back into Elliot's old habits from his relationship with Nanase,[104] and eventually Nanase decided that she had to talk to someone about what she was feeling.[105][106][90] Discussing the issue in private with Susan, Nanase came to the personally devastating realization that she was in fact a lesbian,[107] and in an attempt to escape it all, she retreated into the fairy doll in Elliot and Ellen's room.[108] Susan panicked at the sight of Nanase seemingly losing consciousness from shock, and told both Ellen and Justin the whole story.[109] Nanase woke up in one of Susan's guest rooms with only Ellen waiting by her side. Ellen tried to get Nanase to tell her what happened without letting her in on the fact that she and Justin already knew, but Nanase wasn't ready to do so,[110] and the night went on as planned.[109]

Painted Black[]

On the next day (March 2), when Elliot was kidnapped by Hedge,[111] Ellen was quickly called to the scene by Sarah,[112] and arrived there with Justin, Susan, and Nanase.[111] They went to Tedd's house.[113] The gang were unable to contact Mr. Verres[114] and Grace wanted to give herself in exchange for Elliot[115] but Ellen insisted on going with her along with Nanase to rescue him.[116] Tedd organized the rescue operation,[117] equipping them with uryuom suits[118] and radio watches "borrowed" from Mr. Verres,[119] The three teens quickly made it to the Nest, the underground installation Damien and Grace's siblings used as their home base.[120] Ellen stayed behind while Grace and Nanase (as a fairy doll) entered the Nest.[121] After a failed silent infiltration, Grace was captured by Vlad and Damien,[122][123] leaving Ellen and Nanase to save both of their kidnapped friends.[124]

They quickly found Elliot, who had managed to free himself and was fleeing from Grace's brother Guineas.[125] While Elliot soon found himself fighting Hedge and Nanase launched into an aerial fight with Vlad, Ellen was left with the less than hostile Guineas,[126] whom she thumb wrestled just for the sake of determining a winner.[127] However, when Nanase was overpowered by Vlad[128] and fell unconscious toward the ground, Ellen leaped to her rescue, catching her in mid-air.[129] Angered by Nanase's condition, she unleashed a beam attack from her hand that knocked out Vlad[130] and transformed him into a seemingly fully human woman.[131]

Grace finally confronted Damien,[132][133] and after his defeat a mysterious furry person calling herself Nioi appeared before them.[134] Nioi offered Ellen the chance to gain her own set of childhood memories, different from Elliot's, as a way to "age her soul" into a state more appropriate for a 17-year-old.[2][135] Ellen only had the chance to comment that Nioi's offer sounded good before the mysterious woman took that as her having accepting the offer, quickly "beeping" her nose before disappearing into what appeared to be some kind of dimensional doorway.[135] Then Ellen and her friends returned to Tedd's house[136] and then went home.[137]

Second Life[]

During the nights following those events, Ellen found herself experiencing the life of an alternate Ellen (or a female alternate of Elliot), growing up in a world where humans lived side by side with Seyunolus.[138] In that "second life" of Ellen's, her first friend as she entered school was the cheery skunk girl Kaoli[139] (an alternate version of Nioi), and she soon also made friends with that world's version of Tedd, who suffered from very low self-esteem.[140] After she woke up she talked to Elliot about the dream.[141][142] The experience had a great impact on how Ellen looked at Tedd from that point on, and as soon as she had recovered from the shock of experiencing six years of someone's life during twelve hours of sleep, ran over to his house to hug him.[143]

As the dream continued, the alternate version of Tedd had fallen in love with Ellen, but the alternate Ellen herself only had eyes for the popular seyunolu boy Archie.[144] Ellen was offended that Archie wouldn't date her and Tedd explained that Archie was probably asexual (40% of greater chimeras are asexual due to their Uryuom side) but the only thing Ellen took from the explanation was that he would likely want to cuddle.[145] Indeed, Archie had a strong desire for cuddling, and as such started dating girls after they grew out of the age where such physical closeness was deemed acceptable outside of boyfriend-girlfriend relationships. Still harboring feelings for Archie, Ellen soon became romantically involved with him, and eventually pressured him into having sex with her.[146] As things didn't work out, the two soon broke up, but remained friends[147] until graduation from high school, where the "second life" ended.[148]

At the end of the dreams Ellen got a message from Nioi explaining that the dreams were actual memories of an Ellen in another universe and telling her some things about her own universe and that Nioi wanted her own duplicate Kaoli (who had been accidentally created by the dewitchery diamond of her universe[149]) to have someone to share the second life memories with.[148]

Before The Party and Not a Date at the Mall[]

The Monday following the events of Painted Black (March 4), Ellen was visiting Grace for their usual weekday hangout[150] when Mr. Verres told Grace that he would be away for her upcoming birthday that Saturday.[151] He then suggested that Grace should hold a birthday party and invite the rest of their friends, and while Grace was still recovering from recent revelations at the time, Ellen was very excited by the thought of an unsupervised party. Mr. Verres assured her that Elliot's presence meant it wouldn't be unsupervised,[152] going into some detail on how Elliot and Ellen's personalities differed.[153] Encouraging her to plan something special for the party, Ellen managed to cheer Grace up, and Grace quickly decided[154] that the theme for the party would be that everyone (except Ellen, who technically had already had her sex changed) would use the transformation gun to change their sexes for the duration of the party[155] and wear clothes provided by each other. Ellen and Susan were supposed to provide each other with clothes.[156]

That day Ellen visited the comic book store where Justin was working, and was greeted by an excited Nanase in fairy doll form.[157] After closing up the store, Justin reluctantly agreed to treat Ellen and Nanase to dinner as compensation for their assistance in the store.[158][159] Arriving at the mall's food court, Justin took the first chance he got to sneak away and give them some time alone.[160] After dinner, Ellen spent her allowance on a volume of The Lucky Bunny Bounty Show.[161] Ellen and Nanase talked the whole ride to Ellen's house, and as the car stopped, they spent a moment gazing into each other's eyes, as if waiting for the other to do something, and then suddenly Ellen jumped out, saying a cheerful goodbye and thanking Justin for the ride.[162]

Ellen left it to Tedd to invite Elliot, Sarah, and Susan to the party,[155] and from there Elliot was sent to extend the invitations to Nanase and Justin,[163] who also accepted.[164][165] Susan arranged for Nanase to pick clothes for Ellen since she had bad fashion sense herself.[166][167]

Grace's Birthday Party[]

When Ellen and Elliot arrived for the party (Saturday, March 9), Grace declared that she gave a no-angst guarantee and Elliot said that she could't, which offended Ellen as she recognized that he was referring to an awkward dream that she had the previous night.[168] When Tedd showed them the transformation booth, Ellen objected as she would prefer to transform the others with her own spell but Elliot pointed out that it would go against the theme of the party as everyone except Ellen, including the women, were supposed to change sexes.[169] Then Magus attempted to manipulate Ellen into using her beam to transform Elliot,[170] but she partly resisted it and transformed Tedd instead and then fainted. When she woke up, she did not remember using her beam.[171] When Nanase arrived, Ellen whispered to her about the clothes that Nanase would provide for her, which made Nanase embarrassed[172] as she thought Susan was supposed to keep it secret from Ellen.[173] When the party guests gathered to give Grace their presents Sarah gave her seat beside Ellen to Nanase.[174] Ellen's present to Grace was the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.[175]

When Ellen donned the clothes Nanase provided, a skimpy black dress, she was embarrassed[176][177] and Nanase gave her a jacket.[178] When Sarah took a group photo she put Ellen and Nanase next to each other.[179] While everyone else was getting their sexes changed, Ellen teased Elliot about being a stick in the mud.[180] When Sarah was scared of transforming because Tedd had once transformed her into a catgirl,[181] Ellen walked away[182] as she was angry with her because her own birth was worse[183] and Nanase comforted her.[184] Then Sarah apologized.[185] Ellen was annoyed that Nanase wouldn't open up about her love.[186]

After everyone was changed, Ellen and Grace arranged for the group to sing karaoke[187][188] to let Ellen show her skills at singing with a song about wanting a loved one to open up[189] as a segway into informing the gang about her second life (Elliot cannot sing well),[190][191] and explained that in her second life, she had taken singing lessons[149] and that at some point she and Kaoli would be meeting again.[148] Sarah and the others reassured her that they believed her.[188]

After dinner, Ellen explained to Nanase that later in her second life she slept with Archie,[146][147] and the memories had made Ellen realize that she was not attracted to boys.[147] She also said that Nanase was important to her. Nanase still wouldn't come out and Ellen went outside.[192] Nanase followed her out to the porch after changing back into her normal form[193] and told her that she is lesbian. Ellen told her that Susan had told her earlier and apologized for pushing Nanase to come out. Nanase said that she should have come out before and they kissed, thus beginning a relationship.[194]

The After Party, The New Students and Squirrel In The Classroom[]

After Ellen came home from the party the next day[195] she and Elliot talked about her relationship with Nanase.[196] Elliot questioned if Nanase was ready to be in a relationship.[197] Later that day Nanase visited Ellen as a fairy doll.[198] Ellen asked her if they could be in a relationship[199] and Nanase answered that it was for Ellen to decide if she could accept a relationship with a closeted girlfriend.[200] Ellen said that she was aware of those issues.[201]

Starting the next day (Monday, March 11) Ellen was sent to school alongside Grace so they could both help each other out.[202][203] When Ellen bumped into Nanase, she swatted her ponytail;[204] this led to Nanase and Ellen having a fight about not raising suspicion as Nanase thought they had to pretend that they were strangers,[205] but Justin managed to defuse it.[206] After comparing schedules, Ellen met with Diane and immediately noticed her similarity to Susan;[207][208] she quickly texted Susan about it,[209] but did not get a conclusive answer.[210]

In her first class, she introduced herself[211] and stared down people who bad mouthed Grace's unfamiliarity with the school system.[212] The next class did not go so well, as it dealt with World War 2. When Grace was overcome with emotion and ran out of the classroom,[213] Ellen raced after her[214] and found her outside the bathroom with Diane and Rhoda.[215] After they were dragged into the principal's office,[216] Mr. Raven noticed something about them[217] and let them off without punishment.[218] While she walked back to the class, Ellen sneezed, accidentally zapping herself.[219] She quickly went to the bathroom to change back and remarked to Grace how unusual it was that a sneeze triggered her beam.[220]

Sister II[]

Later that day at lunch, Justin told them about the high school gossip: the school population thought she was "a bit scary, but they also think [she's] hot and taking care of Grace". Ellen thought that aside from her accidentally zapping herself, she was doing great, until Justin said they also thought she's a lesbian. That news alarmed her and Nanase[221] until Justin elaborated that people only thought Ellen was gay, and that she was misleading the supposedly naive Grace into doing risque stuff with her.[222]

The next day (Tuesday, March 12), Ellen woke up to Elliot's yell of surprise at being in female form[223] and found him, having just changed back, in the bathroom.[224] At school, Nanase took her to the restroom to show Ellen her new spells.[225] Nanase's first new spell was for changing clothes and Ellen asked if she could exchange clothes that someone else is wearing. Nanase told Ellen that she had significant magic resistance, which extended to what she was wearing. Upon seeing a picture of Nanase's summoning spell,[226] Ellen was initially disturbed, but relaxed when Nanase elaborated on it.[227] Nanase said that she was disappointed that all spells she got were for hiding and Ellen told her that she should hide less stuff from people to get non-hiding spells; specifically that she should reveal to her mother her true clothing preferences. When they left the restroom they encountered Raven, who asked if she and Nanase were friends. When Ellen said yes, Raven responded with "excellent",[228] leading her to imagine him as a pimp and discussing it with Nanase. Nanase told her about Raven's other favorites - including Mrs. Kitsune, what that status entailed, and how Raven was much older than he looks.[229]

Between classes, Ellen related Nanase's new spells to Grace and allowed Grace to hug her. Ellen said they would have to make their hugs seem less unusual, and Grace suggested that she could also start hugging Nanase and Justin in addition to Ellen, which Ellen approved of if they did.[230]

Later that day, when Ellen was with Grace, Nanase, and Justin, Ellen received a text message from Susan about how Ellen may have been through an awakening. When Ellen discussed it with Nanase, Nanase figured out what must have happened to Elliot and, by extension, what was also happening to Ellen. Grace confirmed this by relating the sneeze incident. Nanase told Ellen to use her beam today if she hadn't already, and Ellen responded that she did do so that morning at home. Nanase then explained about awakenings, and Ellen laughed after hearing that initially Elliot would get spells that involve him turning into a girl.[231] Nanase reprimanded her, but Ellen said her finding humor in it was justified since she was permanently a girl. She then made light of Elliot's current situation based on the fact that it would pay off for him later. Grace then pointed out that he might have been seen transforming, which Ellen dismissed initially, but then realized Susan never mentioned if there were witnesses, so Ellen frantically called her.[232]

After school that day at Tedd's house, Mr. Verres confirmed that both Ellen and Elliot had been through an awakening using a magic analysis wand.[233][234] He then explained more about the process of "waking up", like the fact that they got magic through anime-style martial arts,[234] and the fact that Ellen would get out the phase of magic buildup faster and with less buildup than Elliot, due to her having been created by magic. He then told them how much harder it would be on Elliot, which made Ellen feel guilty for making light of it before.[235]

That night, Ellen voiced her guilt to Elliot, but he said that she should continue with the jokes to lighten up the situation for him.[236] Ellen then suggested Elliot try picturing someone other than Grace while transforming and specifically suggested Carol.[237] She was surprised when Elliot's clothes changed with him. They then discussed that aspect of his transformation[238] and speculated on Ellen's potential new spells.[239]

The next day (Wednesday, March 13) at school, Ellen complained about the dark and foreboding weather, and ran into Raven, who warned that "one should not tempt fate". Upon seeing him with a cane, Ellen was reminded of her mental image of him as a pimp.[240] He further warned her of trouble and to keep her guard up whenever he wielded his cane. Ellen interpreted that to mean he would hit them with it if they make trouble.[241] While Ellen walked with Grace and discussed Raven, Nanase showed up with short hair and boots, which greatly surprised Ellen.[242] After Nanase explained her appearance, Ellen was saddened that she would no longer be able to swat Nanase's hair.[243] When Nanase explained it to Justin and Grace she told them that not hiding her clothing preferences was Ellen's idea.[244] When Nanase explained about how she had a spell that can change her hair, Ellen asked if she can regrow her ponytail using it.[245] They then got into an argument about their differences of opinion about Nanase's new look and the lack of communication before she underwent the haircut.[246] Nanase then left angrily, taking Justin with her. As Ellen stood contemplating the argument, Grace hit her in the back of the head for being a "dummy".[247] Grace then rubbed Ellen's head to make up for it, and Ellen admitted it was stupid to ask about the ponytail but insisted that Nanase should still have told her about it first.[248]

While Ellen was in class with Grace, the power shut off and the doors became locked.[249] After a while, she decided to investigate and found that the door was no longer locked and one of Nanase's fairy dolls lay in the hallway.[250] Suddenly, she saw Nanase turn a corner and come running toward her, yelling her name.[251] Just before they reached each other, they and the rest of the school, including Grace, suddenly fell asleep, due to Abraham's sleep grenade.[252] Abraham then took Ellen away to a forest to kill her.[253] Before he was able to do so, Nanase awakened in the fairy doll Ellen had with her and proceeded to defend her from Abraham.[254] After multiple fairy dolls were destroyed,[255] Nanase gained the Guardian Angel spell[256] and successfully blocked Abraham's blows[257] before grabbing him, taking flight,[258] and convincing him to let Ellen live.[259] After that, Agents Cranium and Wolf arrived[260] and woke Ellen. Ellen saw Nanase's Guardian Angel form dissolve away and subsequently saw her faint.[261] She tried to run to her but Agent Cranium restrained her. She then saw Mr. Verres striking Abraham with a blast from his wand.[262]

She accompanied Nanase to the hospital and cried by her bedside until Nanase woke up.[263] She discovered the consequences of Nanase's magic burnout. She indirectly said she loved Nanase and Nanase said she loved her too.[264] A bit later, Nanase's mother came into the hospital room to find Ellen and Nanase kissing.[265] Ellen gave an absurd excuse, while Nanase faced it head-on. At first, Mrs. Kitsune seemed unconcerned with Nanase's being a lesbian and only cared about Nanase's selflessness and well-being. She then said that it was just a phase, revealing that she wasn't ready to accept Nanase as a lesbian, but didn't consider it important relative to her being safe.[266]

Indiana Elliot and the Temple Of Swedish Furniture[]

Several weeks later (March 30), after Elliot returned from being experimented on by Tedd, Ellen asked him about it, which lead the conversation into awkward places, which made Ellen change the subject a couple of times. To talk about something completely different, Ellen showed Elliot her new spell, which involved her being able to adopt the form, clothing and voice of whoever she pointed an invisible beam at.[267] This led to another awkward situation, as she changed into Brownie, who was not wearing a collar, and consequently Ellen's clothes were left where she shrank out of them, meaning Ellen would have to manually put her clothes back on after she changed back later.[268] After her parents came in and told them that they would buy a new TV set and give Ellen and Elliot the old one, she expressed happiness at it.[269]

After Elliot came back from Swedekea he told Ellen about Noah, and she expressed confusion that Elliot would befriend someone like that, given his nature. Elliot suggested that it would be unusual for her as well, but Ellen reminded him that he was the stick in the mud, not her.[270]

New And Old Flames[]

About a week later (Monday, April 8), Ellen found Elliot with his clothes transformed into a super girl costume and requested him to make a costume for her later in the week because she was planning to have Nanase over. Before she could finish what she was saying, Elliot asked her not to give him the details.[271] She also refused to go to Greg's dojo, since she wanted to spend her time doing other things.[272]

The next day, Ellen talked to her friends at school about how she was sad to learn that the dojo would be closing down (which meant she could never go).[273] When Nanase told her and Justin that Elliot would be coming to the comic shop, Ellen told him she didn't think Elliot would enjoy the comic scene.[274]

On that evening, after Elliot's first fight as a superheroine, Ellen read through Elliot's spell book and discovered he had multiple secret identity forms; she refused to give it back when he asked for it.[275] When Elliot was stuck with picking a form to sleep in, Ellen suggested he try his angsty goth identity;[276] when he showed a form based on it, she wanted to see the mild mannered and party girl ones, but Elliot refused to "morph his brain" again.[277]

The next day at school, Nanase was worrying that she was more concerned with her own loss of magic then the danger of a magic attack, but Ellen said that it was OK that Nanase was sad that she lost her powers, since Nanase used her magic so much and thus wanted it back, so a few horrible thoughts were expected.[278] That night, Ellen called Elliot to tell him to get home soon or his dinner would be going to Brownie, and that he had to take Grace to Greg's dojo on Friday since Ellen had sexy plans with Nanase.[279] When Elliot got home, she learned that Elliot was sad[280] because of a fight he had had with Justin.[281] The next day, at school, Ellen yelled at Justin for taking his anger at Melissa out on Elliot. She told him that Elliot deserved better from him and if he wanted to make things right he had to apologize to Elliot and find out what Noah wanted.[282]

After Elliot, Justin, Grace, Noah, and Greg defeated Dex and his fire guy army (Friday, April 12), Ellen was shocked that Elliot had the gall to kiss Carol on television.[283] When Elliot said he liked the party girl form, despite that fact that he kissed Carol, because it made him energetic and impulsive, Ellen said he could choose to be less of a stick in the mud without the morph, and tried to held herself up as an example.[284]

One Way Road and Death Sentence[]

On May 1, Ellen and Nanase were making plans to go on another movie date when they were rudely interrupted by Gerald,[285] one of Nanase's ex-boyfriends.[286] After that, Grace grabbed her and declared that she needed romance.[287] Grace explained that she needed a break from Tedd talking about magic. Ellen suggested she go on a date and Grace said that a double date would be great.[288] Ellen tried to get out of it, but could not resist Grace's puppy dog eyes.[289] After Grace left, Ellen said that she was OK with the date as long as she and Tedd stuck to small talk.[290]

Before Ellen and Nanase picked up Tedd and Grace for the date (May 3), Ellen and Nanase kissed in the car, since they didn't think they would get another chance during the date.[291] During the date, Ellen ordered calamari at the restaurant,[292] which surprised Tedd as he hadn't realized that she is different from Elliot.[293] When Tedd realized that he had been neglecting his friends while researching magic, Ellen said that it wasn't the first time he spent all his time on a hobby.[294] Later Ellen angrily warned Tedd not to get Nanase's hopes up if he couldn't help her.[295] Tedd asked what was up with her, and Ellen explained she was confused about her relationship with Tedd due to her memories of him from Elliot and from her second-life dreams.[296][297]

When Grace, Diane and Rhoda talked about the boar attack (May 13), Ellen was confused as she hadn't heard about it.[298] After Grace talked to Raven later that day, Ellen asked her what they talked about. Grace was conflicted since Raven had forbidden her from telling anyone[299] but reluctantly told her that they were planning to save the boar.[300]

Summer[]

On May 28 Ellen's parents told her that they wouldn't make her take a summer job as it was her first summer.[301] Later in the summer (June 15), Ellen and Nanase started solving mysteries as the Meddling Teenagers.[302][303]

End Of An Era[]

Before Christmas (December 23) Ellen sparred with Grace at Greg's new dojo.[304][305] The result of Ellen's FV5 beam striking Grace made Greg embarrassed.[306] Ellen and Grace talked about Grace's telekinesis.[307]

That night, when Elliot asked Ellen what hair color to have in his female form, Ellen suggested going outside Moperville to get rid of his energy buildups but Elliot said that he hates traveling.[308] Then they talked about watching Christmas movies with Grace and Elliot said that it felt like cheating on Susan.[309] Ellen told Elliot to do some introspection.[310] The next morning Elliot was upset because he had cheated on Sarah with Susan in a dream. Ellen told him to figure out if it meant something.[311] Ellen pointed out that Elliot didn't want to date Sarah at first. She was about to tell him why she got over losing Sarah as a girlfriend fast but decided not to tell him[312] because she was unsure if he felt the same and because he needed to realize it himself.[313] After Elliot thought about his feelings for Susan[314] he told Ellen that he had never felt as confused before. Ellen suggested that her birth should be confusing but Elliot said that it was simple to him.[315]

When Elliot realized that Sarah is like a sister to him (December 27) he phoned Ellen, who confirmed that it was she had talked about.[316] After Elliot's breakup with Sarah, he talked about it with Ellen.[317]

MV5[]

When Sarah wanted to design an "MV5" form Grace invited Ellen to do it together[318] because Ellen had had the same idea before[319] and because she had said that she missed Sarah.[320] When Ellen arrived she wore a skimpy dress.[321] When Grace and Sarah argued whether the form should be manly, Ellen convinced Grace that it should be in order to make it a male counterpart to FV5.[322] When Ellen and Sarah tried to design the form they were unable to talk about the specifics[323] so Grace offered to use her shapeshifting as a visual reference.[324] When Grace undressed to transform[325][326] Ellen persuaded her to put on a pair of sweatpants.[327][328] While Grace was away Ellen talked to Sarah about how it was awkward to meet her as Ellen has Elliot's memories of Sarah being his girlfriend.[329] She reassured Sarah that she is sexy, which made Sarah blush.[330] Then Ellen realized that Grace was stalling for time to let Ellen and Sarah talk.[331]

When they talked about the design of the MV5 form Ellen complained that the set height of FV5 is boring.[332] When they had decided how tall and muscular the MV5 form would be, Ellen suggested deciding on other details, which made Sarah embarrassed.[333][334] When Grace changed into Sarah's (female) form while still shirtless, Ellen was embarrassed and looked away[335] but Sarah said that she wanted to learn to be more comfortable with nudity so Ellen took off her dress,[336] which made Sarah so embarrassed that she fled.[337] After Grace had demonstrated various male forms Ellen suggested settling on what forms to save and what to call them.[338]

Family Tree[]

After Ellen and Nanase solved the mystery of the haunted locker room, Rhea invited them to her New Year's Eve party.[339][340]

When Ellen and Nanase arrived at Rhea's apartment they learned that Diane is Rhea's adopted sister[341] and that New Year's Eve is her birthday.[342] As Susan was born ten minutes after midnight on New Year's Day[343] Ellen and Nanase asked what time of the day Diane was born and Rhea answered ten minutes before midnight.[344] Ellen and Nanase concluded that Susan and Diane are twins and Susan is adopted.[345]

Then Ellen and Nanase talked about Nanase's angel spell,[346] which is possibly divine.[347]

Diane talked to Ellen and Nanase about Elliot and the review show.[348] When Diane asked to meet Elliot, Ellen, who thought it was too soon after his breakup to introduce him to someone who looks like Susan,[349] desperately tried to distract her.[350] When Diane asked why Ellen didn't want her to meet Elliot, Ellen told her about the breakup.[351]

Then Elijah and Rick showed up and squeed as they are fans of the meddling teenagers.[351][352] Then Charlotte showed up and said that she recommended Ellen and Nanase to Rhea as she is interested in the paranormal.[353] She offered to play video games with Ellen and Nanase if they wanted to get away from the party and the alcohol.[354] Indeed, the other party guests were only interested in drinking games[354] and Nanase and Ellen decided to go to Charlotte's room.[355]

While they were plaing video games Charlotte told Ellen and Nanase what she thought about they supernatural.[356] She told them that she knew enough about Abraham's attack to deduce that Nanase fought the attacker using a guardian form and the attacker's target was Ellen.[357] Charlotte wanted to contact Ellen and Nanase if she learned about new supernatural incidents.[358]

Diane then told them that Rhea and the other party guests were transformed and strangely obedient.[359] After their attempts to contact Edward Verres failed[360][361] Ellen suggested going outside to find somewhere with phone signal.[362]

Outside Ellen saw two snow angels[363] (which were a subtle message from Zeus[364]) Then a monster landed in front of them.[365] Charlotte recognized the monster as Tengu from her forum.[366] Ellen interrupted Tengu when he tried to say his other name.[367] Tengu mentioned that he was drawn to the excess magic energy in Moperville.[367] When Nanase changed into her angel form[368] Tengu laughed and Ellen hit him with a transformation beam[369] but Tengu resisted it. Tengu gloated about his superior power and combat prowess.[370] Nanase told Ellen and Charlotte to leave[371] but Ellen copied the angel form.[372] In the angel form Ellen and Nanase had a telepathic connection and combat instincts that told them that Tengu was indeed more powerful than them as long as he had access to excess ambient energy.[373] Ellen came up with the idea to consume the excess energy and they took flight.[374] Ellen and Nanase evaded Tengu[375][376][377][378] until Tengu ran out of energy[379] and crashed.[380]

By that time Grace and Elliot had arrived.[381] When Ellen and Nanase ended their angel spells the magic burn-out made Ellen's hair blonde, which surprised her.[382] Then Diane and Charlotte came back.[383] Then Edward, Wolf and Cranium arrived.[384] Edward said that it was important to keep the attack secret.[385] When Charlotte, Ellen and Nanase talked about what had happened Ellen noted that they could call themselves Charlotte's Angels.[386]

Two days later (January 2), after they got their magic back, Ellen and Nanase met[387] and Nanase complained about the secrets they had to keep.[388] Ellen wanted to keep their secrets about Nanase's family from Tedd as she believed Edward's explanation that Tedd would relapse to his mute phase.[389] Then Nanase suggested telling Susan about the possibility that she is adopted but Ellen thought they should give Susan's mother more time to tell her as Susan had just turned eighteen.[390]

Squirrel Prophet[]

When Elliot told Ellen that he had a date with Ashley (probably a Thursday in January), Ellen was surprised that he would do something like that and noted to Grace at school on the following Friday that Elliot was becoming less of stick in the mud.[391] Diane overheard Ellen and Grace talking about Elliot and Ashley, which made her angry.[392] Diane let slip that she wanted to seduce Elliot herself.[393]

So A Date At The Mall[]

When Ellen and Nanase visited Charlotte to solve another mystery on the next day (Saturday) they brought Diane with them partly to keep her occupied during Elliot's first date with Ashley.[394] The mystery was a non-human cloaked figure who had been seen and asked young men for their names.[395] When Charlotte ordered the others to read articles about the cloaked figure, Ellen found that boring.[396] Ellen sent a text message to Elliot asking him to report if he saw the cloaked figure.[397] Ellen told Diane, Nanase and Charlotte that she couldn't figure out anything about the cloaked figure since the cloaked figure's behavior was inconsistent as she seemed better at hiding when she asked for people's names, as if there were two cloaked figures.[398] Charlotte, Nanase and Diane realized that this was a good hypothesis.[399] When Charlotte, Diane and Nanase talked about where the less stealthy cloaked figure could be Ellen mentioned downtown Moperville and the others thought it a likely place.[400]

Later Ashley called Ellen's phone and told her that Cheerleadra was talking to the cloaked figure.[401] Ashley observed the confrontation and reported that the cloaked figure was a griffin who was asking for her wife.[402] Ellen told Ashley that she and her friends had an idea of where the griffin's wife was. Ashley had to get closer to Elliot and the griffin to tell them.[403]

While Elliot and Ashley were busy talking to the griffin they didn't reply on the phone[404] and Nanase's fairy doll spell failed so Ellen worried that they might be dead and she was angry when Elliot finally called her.[405] Elliot told Ellen that he would meet the griffin, Tara, at a parking lot. Ellen insisted on meeting them to explain how they knew about Tara's wife.[406] When Ellen told Diane, Nanase and Charlotte that she and Nanase would meet Tara and Elliot, Diane asked why she and Charlotte had to stay in the car and Ellen explained that it was for their safety. Charlotte told the others what she had read on social media,[407] including that Elliot is Cheerleadra. Diane asked how he could be Cheerleadra if he was talking to Ellen while Cheerleadra was talking to the griffin and Ellen, who wanted to avoid letting Diane learn about Ashley, loudly said "Yes, that is what happened."[408]

When they met Tara and Elliot, Charlotte and Diane followed Ellen and Nanase out of the car against Ellen's wishes.[409] When Tara asked how they knew about her wife,[410] Ellen tried to answer but Charlotte interrupted her to tell the griffin about their investigations.[411] Ellen and the others decided to follow Tara and Elliot in their cars.[412]

When the group gathered again Diane told Nanase, Ellen and Ashley that she had been attacked by a vampire, which exploded when it was defeated.[413] Elliot told the others to leave as the explosion would attract attention. Ellen, Nanase, Diane, Ashley and Charlotte went to Charlotte's apartment.[414] They stayed outside while Ashley called Elliot. Ellen said that she wouldn't trust herself to ask the right questions of Tara and her wife, Andrea,[415] so Nanase sent a fairy doll to Elliot and the griffins.[416] Elliot later joined the others at Charlotte's apartment.[417]

Sister 3[]

On the next day (Sunday) Ellen was present when Edward and Elliot talked about the incident at the mall[418] and Voltaire appeared.[419] When Nanase offered to talk to Susan with Ellen,[420] Ellen tried to make Elliot do it instead as she wanted to avoid the awkwardness.[421]

Then Ellen and Nanase talked to Susan about Diane.[422] When Susan dismissed the possibility that she and Diane are twins[423] Ellen argued with her even thought she and Nanase already knew that they aren't.[424] When Susan was angry about the suggestion that her father cheated on her mother before she was born, Ellen said that the new Jerry (Zeus) thought Susan and Diane are sisters,[425] which convinced Susan to consider the possibility.[426] Ellen then convinced Susan to meet Diane.[427][428]

Next morning Ellen and Elliot argued whose school day would be the most awkward.[429] At school Ellen met Diane before Nanase arrived and Diane insisted on talking about Susan immediately.[430] They arranged for Diane and Susan to meet.[431][432]

On the next Thursday, after Elliot got a message from someone who is transgender[433] he asked Ellen if she is happy with being a woman. Ellen answered that she is.[434] Ellen then asked Elliot about his gender identity and he answered that he would miss his ability to transform.[435] After they talked about Elliot's sexual orientation[436][437] Elliot told Ellen about the message. Ellen pointed out the problems with giving strangers access to magic.[438] Elliot then suggested asking immortals for help[439][440] and Ellen pointed out the problems with that plan.[441]

On the next day (Friday), Sirleck possessed Ellen and lied to Nanase to get her out of the way.[442][443] Sirleck then went to Ellen's home during Elliot's date with Ashley[444] and zapped Elliot with Ellen's spell, allowing Magus to possess him.[445] Magus and Sirleck then went with Ashley to PTTAOLUTASF,[446] where Magus used the Dewitchery diamond to get a body of his own.[447] Sirleck then tried to leave Ellen to possess Magus but Ellen held him[448] until Magus had recovered from using the diamond. When Ellen threw out Sirleck she fell unconscious.[449]

After dealing with Sirleck Magus, who assumed that Ellen was a trans man like himself, wanted to transform her.[450] Elliot, thinking that Magus was going to transform Ellen without asking her, transformed into a Cheerleadra-like form and carried Magus outside the building.[451]

The evaporating shards of the Dewitchery diamond gave Ellen a new spell and made her hair green.[452] When the urteronc was about to attack Ellen,[453] Ashley screamed, which woke Ellen, who sent the urteronc flying out of the building with a beam.[454] Due to he urteronc leaving the building,[455] Arthur arrived through a magical doorway and made Ellen, Elliot and Ashley sleep.[456]

Ellen, Elliot and Ashley woke up in an interrogation room where Arthur told them that he knew they were victims. Ellen asked for a phone to call Nanase.[457] Nanase told her that she and their friends had formed a search party when Ellen, Elliot and Ashley were missing.[458] When Arthur told Ashley that she would train her wizard ability, Ellen questioned his generosity.[459] When Arthur told them that the core of the Dewitchery diamond was a scale of a large animal[460] Ellen and Ashley were happy that they have "dragon powers", which annoyed Arthur as dragons are not known to exist.[461]

Then Arthur sent Ellen, Elliot and Ashley home.[462] When they had come home Elliot talked to Ellen about Magus's accusation that Ellen had been pressured into being a woman.[463] Ellen reassured Elliot that she wanted to be a woman. Then she checked her spellbook for new spells and found that it had become thinner[464] as it had become less wordy.[465]

Next day Ellen asked Charlotte to look for Magus.[466]

The Secret of Sam[]

On Saturday a week later Grace told Ellen that she felt like she had to do something but didn't know what. Ellen assumed that she felt guilt about not being at the mall during the vampire attack and said that she shouldn't feel any responsibility for that[467] and that Grace's real power is her kindness.[468] Ellen then mentioned that she felt irrational guilt for the vampire attack.[469]

Reflections[]

When Ellen invited (the following Monday) Nanase and Justin to a party with Ashley, she said that she and Ashley are "dragon sisters".[470]

When Elliot drove Ashley to the party (the following Saturday), Ellen called Ashley "dragon sister" and Ashley and Ellen noticed awkward implications.[471] Then Ellen told Ashley about Grace's birthday party.[472]

When Susan and Diane arrived at the party, Ellen wanted them to tell her how they are related but when Susan said that she wasn't ready to tell the others Ellen hid her disappointment and agreed to respect Susan's wishes.[473] When Tedd and Diane talked about why the drumstick wand shrunk Ashley smaller than expected, Ellen joked about being scared of smart people.[474] When Grace jumped out of her clothes when they grew too large while she was shrunk, Ellen looked with a bemused smile at Nanase, who hid her eyes but peeked through one of her hands.[475] When Diane was arguing with Justin and Susan about what the word "nerd" means, Ellen asked Diane what she means by it.[476] Later in that discussion Ellen suggested that a nerd is someone who makes references to works of fiction.[477]

While Justin, Diane and Tedd were talking about designing a female form for Justin, Ellen suggested to Nanase that they design a transformation party game. Nanase instead talked about how she had disliked Ashley for not being impressed enough by her and said that she was being as full of herself as Diane. Ellen disagreed about that being bad and said that Diane was a good role model[478] and that Nanase had good reasons to expect people to be impressed by her. She suggested that Nanase try to be friendly with Ashley.[479] Then Ellen tried to help Justin design the female form by giving silly suggestions.[480] When Justin tried out female forms, Ellen looked bemusedly at Nanase again.[481] When Justin settled on a form Ellen compared it to "someone's hot mom".[482]

When Tedd mentioned that Ashley was made a wizard by a dragon, Ellen told Justin and Diane that the dragon scale that was the core of the dewitchery diamond made Ashley a wizard and did other things (she forgot that it was actually the shards of the dewitchery diamond) and also mentioned the magic change, which prompted Tedd to explain her role in talking to the will of magic.[483] When Diane disapproved of Tedd's long-term goal of giving magic to everyone, Ellen had to suppress her anger for what she said about Tedd's lifelong dream.[484]

When the mirror door transformed most of the party guests, Ellen was transformed into a large Sarah.[485][486] When Justin suggested that Nanase, who had been transformed into a large Grace, had Grace's spatial awareness along with her antennae,[487] Ellen tested that hypothesis by asking her to say where Ellen was holding her hand without looking. Tedd told them to repeat the experiment ten times.[488] The results confirmed that Nanase had enhanced spatial awareness but Tedd said that they didn't know why, which made Ellen note that the fictional scientific method involves less uncertainty.[489]

When Tedd told the others to go upstairs to transform back while she would test her solution to the problems with the mirror by repeatedly casting her spell for becoming extra feminine or extra masculine,[490] Ellen said that she wanted such a spell since it would fit the theme of her magic.[491]

Jestful Statement[]

Later Grace told Ellen that she had decided to experiment with announcing the intended tone of what she was saying in order to make it clear when she was joking.[492] Ellen questioned if it was necessary[493] and warned Grace that people might make fun of her.[494] When Justin told them that the boys at the school found Grace cute and were impressed that she, as a woman, made an effort to be clear,[495] Ellen complained about gender roles making it hard for people of different genders to communicate.[496] She also told Grace that she had always been cute, though strangers hadn't noticed her before.[497]

Who Is Ellen[]

Later (probably sometime in spring), when she went to Salty Crackers Comics with Nanase, Ellen decided that she wanted to buy something because she felt guilty about hanging out at the comic shop without buying anything.[498] Thus she looked for comics to buy.[499] Larry offered to help her.[500] Larry's friend Rich also approached her and offered to teach her trading card games; as Rich was blushing and boasting about his ability, Ellen suspected that he was hitting on her.[501] Thus she said that card games are too complicated.[502]

Then Ellen found a roleplaying game[503] that Elliot used to run and play with Tedd and Sarah. She decided to buy it.[504] Rich found it unbelievable that she could run roleplaying games but found card games too complicated. Ellen said that it was easy to run the roleplaying game, which offended Rich.[505] Ellen continued to insist that it was easy because she was too angry to deescalate the situation, even though a rational part of her mind realized that she should deescalate it.[506]

Rich insisted that Ellen couldn't run the game, so Ellen decided to run it as a challenge.[507] She soon regretted it because she would need time to learn the rules of the new edition.[508] George offered to help her with the rules.[509]

Nanase was nervous about playing the roleplaying game since she didn't know the rules or the lore,[510] so Ellen suggested that she should play as an equally ignorant character[511] - an isekai character, reincarnated in the world of the game.[512]

Ellen decided to roughly follow an adventure from the book that she had bought, as she didn't have time to come up with a new story and she couldn't follow the book exactly because the players couldn't be expected to do as planned for.[513][514] Rich decided to play as a paladin,[515] Larry decided to play as an elvish bard,[516] George decided to play as a half-demon sorceress,[517] and Nanase's character was a human rogue.[512] Rich asked her to figure out how the player party formed and, in particular, why his paladin would join them.[518] Ellen came up with a story of how the party other than Rich's paladin formed[519] and took Rich aside to tell him why his character joined the party: he had been given a mission from his god to learn about Nanase's character[520] as the god was confused about her.[521]

In the game, the players were hired by the mayor of a town to investigate the disappearance of his prize-winning pet chicken[522] (changed from the adventure as written, where the mayor's daughter had been kidnapped[523]). While she did the voice of the mayor, Ellen kept her eyes closed as she was nervous about seeing her audience while acting.[524] When Rich made a knowledge check, Ellen told the players about a dark magic ritual involving animal sacrifice.[525]

After all player characters fell downstairs due to bad rolls,[526][527] Ellen invented a cleric friend of the mayor to heal them.[528] Larry thought the cleric was involved in the conspiracy stealing the chicken[529] and the other players agreed,[530] and Ellen decided to go along with that suggestion.[523] She struggled to come up with a name for the cleric before settling for "Marik".[531] When Larry tried to persuade the mayor to give him information about the cleric,[532] he succeeded despite rolling badly, so Ellen said that his character succeeded entirely due to her looks.[533] The mayor told the player characters about an abandoned mine owned by Marik.[534]

Rich said "Thank god Larry's hot" and was ashamed when he realized what he had said.[535] Ellen took him aside[536] and told him that there's no shame in roleplaying and that Nanase would be impressed by him accepting that;[537] as Rich saw impressing attractice woman as a way of succeeding at masculinity, he was forced to reconsider his other views on masculinity.[538][539]

As the player characters were finding goblin tracks at entrance of the mine,[540] Ellen looked in the game manual for an explanation of why the adventure had goblins working for the villain and was disappointed that the manual didn't bother giving an in-universe explanation.[541] Thus she decided to make the evil minions several races.[542][543]

When the player characters overheard the first evil minions they encountered, Ellen started roleplayed with open eyes.[544][545] After the player characters defeated the first evil minions, Ellen said that they were not dead, only knocked out.[546] Later she misremembered the name of the chicken, as she is bad at remembering names.[547]

In the final dungeon there were ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, which Nanase's character could recognize, but not read, because she was from a different world.[548] The villain wanted the Nanase's character to read the hieroglyphs for him;[549] his entire plan was intended to get her there.[550] After Nanase's character ran out of the dungeon,[551] Ellen thought about a memory of Elliot winning a video game with a cheat code and finding it unsatisfying,[552] so she decided to challenge Nanase: one of the minions chasing Nanase's character threw a rock at her.[553] The rock threw off her balance[554] and Nanase's character deliberately rolled through a tripwire[555] and the minions chasing her were caught in the trap.[556] After Marik's minions were defeated, Marik tried to threaten the chicken and grabbed a tight hold, which caused the chicken to struggle,[557] and the chicken ended up knocking out Marik.[558]

Ellen tried to wrap up the adventure but George decided to destroy the wall with the hieroglyphs in order to look for a treasure.[559] Ellen resisted the temptation to describe anticlimactic consequences of the foolish decision[560] and instead hinted that something the player characters couldn't clearly see escaped.[561] Thus the game session wrapped up with a sequel hook; Ellen needed time to figure out the story of the sequel.[562]

Rich declared that Ellen is good at running games, which briefly confused Ellen as she had almost forgotten the challenge.[563] Then Nanase said that she was hungry[564] so Ellen invited all of the players to go to a food place together, which surprised George and Rich.[565] On the way to the food place, Nanase asked if running the game was as easy as Ellen remembered; Ellen thought it was as easy, but as it could have been harder, she said that it wasn't quite as easy.[566]

Layers[]

When Tedd told Ellen about uryuom projections, Ellen told him that her "second life" counterpart had learned at school about greater projections, which Tedd hadn't heard about.[567]

Ellen's gender identity[]

Ellen never felt gender dysphoria, even when she was still Elliot.[434] However, noone asked her until much later, there was a big part of wanting to get her own identity in that, after Edward Verres got her crying by reminding her she isn't Elliot,[568] and she had some mixed feelings and grumpiness for a while,[569] so Magus's conviction she was railroaded into being male was shorter jump than some may have though.[570]

Time, her second life[148] and probably getting Nanase[194] certainly helped her over it.

Sexual identity[]

... meanwhile, just to get it together, the important point driving home her sexuality was second life dream about having sex with Archie.[147] She considers herself "bisexual homoromantic" now.[12]

Relationships[]

Elliot[]

Although Ellen is technically a magically created duplicate of Elliot, the two have come to see each other as twin siblings. They're both very protective of each other, although Ellen enjoys teasing her brother (about things like their unique relationship and his transformation abilities), and he in turn feels better from her easy-going attitude. They are very comfortable with each other, and feel there is nothing wrong with their sharing a room.

Note: Ellen making things awkward for Elliot:[571][572][573][574][575][576][577] ... and payback.[578]

Nanase[]

Although what romantic feelings Elliot had for Nanase before falling in love with Sarah seemed to be all but gone when Ellen was "born", the comfort she provided for Ellen shortly thereafter seemed to pave the way for new emotions in both of them. The thought of going to school with Nanase pleased Ellen, while Nanase found herself wanting Ellen around.[579][80] The more time they spent around each other, the stronger their feelings grew, but not even after Nanase was able to realize that she was gay did anything happen between the two for a while. Despite not wanting to tell anyone how she felt, Nanase kept hoping that Ellen would do something. Ellen, meanwhile, had decided not to do anything until Nanase was ready to come out on her own.

As Grace's birthday party neared its end, Ellen had been disappointed numerous times by her failures to get Nanase to open up to her (or "let her into her closet"),[580] despite dropping several less than subtle hints about her feelings.[11] Hurt by Nanase's unwillingness to open up, after having shared so much herself, Ellen made an excuse to go outside into the cold, and Nanase finally realized what was going on and mustered up the courage to confront it head on. After explaining their actions, they both understood each other's feelings clearly, and shared a kiss on the balcony. The two spent the night together on Tedd's sofa.

After much worrying, especially on Nanase's part, they finally got the chance to talk about the status of their relationship. Nanase wasn't ready to let anyone beyond their close-knit circle of friends know about her sexuality, and was afraid that a secret relationship wouldn't be enough for Ellen.[581] Ellen, however, was convinced that it didn't matter how difficult it was going to be, and as far as they were concerned, the relationship had been made official.

Mrs. Kitsune found out on end of Sister II,[266] which was likely end of secrecy, although she might still not accept it.[582]

Ellen even talked about "using Tedd" (Transformation Gun) to get children with Nanase.[583]

Grace[]

After Ellen got settled into her new life with Elliot and her parents, she soon started to spend a lot of her free time with the equally free Grace. Thanks to Grace, she got to act on her impulses and release her inner child in ways that would seem uncharacteristic for Elliot, and the two quickly became good friends. Once they started attending Moperville South with Justin and Nanase, their friendship became especially invaluable to Grace, who relied on Ellen for support when she felt insecure about the whole world of things she didn't understand or previously know about. Grace often hugs Ellen at school, causing strangers to think they are dating.[584] When Ellen was attacked by Abraham, Grace expressed her guilt that she couldn't help her.

Mr. and Mrs. Dunkel[]

When Ellen was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Dunkel, they took the news very well: immediately taking her in as their daughter and not blaming her for anything that happened. Mrs. Dunkel was especially pleased, since she had always wanted a daughter and would not have to drop out of anything because of a pregnancy this time, instead just gaining a seventeen-year-old daughter that she did not even have to birth or raise.

Tedd[]

Ellen has expressed attraction toward Tedd, but that seems to be the extent of her relationship toward him, and also the extent of the heterosexual side of her bisexuality. This is consistent with the fact that in alternate universes where the alternates of Elliot and Tedd are of different genders, they are attracted to each other and, in certain cases, are in a relationship with each other. Ellen has a hard time defining her relationship with Tedd, since she has 2 sets of memories of him that she doesn't consider hers.

Susan[]

Ellen first met Susan during the Sister story arc and got to know her during the Ellen's Crew storyline. Ellen showed her what she looked like as blonde, and helped her to realize that all the males she knew had good qualities, which helped Susan to grow emotionally.

Sarah[]

Initially, Ellen wanted to be in relationship with Sarah, but felt conflicted since Elliot had already had that with her. Since starting a relationship with Nanase, Ellen is no longer conflicted, and regards Sarah as a friend.

Justin[]

Ellen has spent relatively little time with Justin except for during the Magic Comic Shop story arc, the Not a Date at the Mall story arc, and briefly during the Painted Black and Grace's Birthday Party arcs.

Abilities[]

Magic[]

Anime Style Martial Arts[]

  • Heightened senses: Through the martial arts training Ellen inherited from Elliot, she has the ability to detect the power of certain supernatural beings, such as The Goo.[585]
Tamashii Gekido
  • Tamashii Gekido: The Tamashii Gekido (魂激怒?, Soul Fury) is a powerful martial arts technique Ellen also inherited from Elliot.

Dewitchery Diamond abilities[]

  • Female Variant #5 beam: This beam attack was acquired as part of her creation. Anyone who is hit by the beam goes through a physical transformation identical to the one caused by the Transformation Gun's FV5 beam, including Ellen. The resulting form has been given the alternate name of "Venus form". Note that while the means to obtain it was different, the beam likely counts as normal spell now.
    • Variant: Shooting someone transformed with the beam once again reverses the effect, and restores the person to his or her original form.[586] It has the same effect on someone transformed into the FV5 form by the TF Gun.
    • Variant: In the Painted Black story arc, Ellen unwittingly alters her beam's effect when used against the chimera Vlad, gifting him with a fully human female form, which s/he has since remained in.[587]
    • Variant and/or note: With little extra effort, Ellen can change into FV5 size even someone so big (like Greg) that TF gun itself would hit it's resize limits and leave him bigger than standard FV5 height.[588]
    • Variant and/or spell upgrade: Ellen can do "Double FV5" beam for the same difference as between Elliot and what happens when she zaps herself.[589]

Beam Spells[]

This category includes the FV5 beam, can be used with mentioned modifiers and doesn't stack - effect of second beam replaces effect of first beam.
Range of Ellen's beams is between 30 and 300 feet depending on power used.[590]
  • Other female beams Ellen has many spells on topic of changing people 'like FV5, but' ... including (but possibly not limited to):[591]
    • their hair doesn't change
    • their height doesn't change
    • basically FV1 (the most basic female transformation that doesn't change hair or height, and a figure closer to how they started)
    • basically FV1 with FV5's set height
    • their hair turns blonde (Ellen denies this reflecting any sort of hair color preferences on her part)
    • with a smaller bust and double FV5 hips
    • with smaller hips and a double FV5 bust
    • keeping muscle tone[592]
  • Shrink ray: allows Ellen to shrink someone. It's limited to half-size, like the TF Gun, so not nearly as cool as Rhoda's spells.[593] Note that it also affects clothing.
  • other non-FV5 transformations:[594]
    • Shorter
    • Taller
    • Heavier
    • Blonder
    • Note that growing was not mentioned, nor other hair color changes, but they may be included as well
    • Beefier and apparently actually stronger as well[595]
  • Adapt clothes modifier allows Ellen to modify many of her other spells (but not "Copy" and "Paste" for example[596]) to resize clothing to fit the new form by using Spock's gesture when firing the beam.[592] When used with spell which affect clothing normally, it would make them NOT affect clothing.[597]
  • Area of effect / Contagious modifier[598] transforms Ellen, anyone near her, then anyone close enough to those people and keeps going until it runs out of people or energy.[599] The spell only uses energy Ellen puts in it, it doesn't draw more from ambient magic in widening circle.[600]
  • Quiet modifier allows Ellen to use less energy and only affect single target, by positioning the thumb weirdly. Also means the spell is easier to resist.[601]
  • Double beam - Ellen can combine any two of her beam spells into one by putting hands together.[602] This is only option for combining spells - otherwise, her beams cancels each other (effect of second beam replaces effect of first beam). The "Double FV5" is actually combining FV5 with FV5, but note that most spells doubled like this wouldn't have double effect, they would just be harder to resist.[603]

Other Transformation Spells[]

These spells, while still looking as beams, can't be modified with beam modifiers and WILL stack with beam spell - so, for example, both paste and FV5 can be applied on single person. The only difference in order will be clothes ; if beam spells will be adapting clothes, then clothes size will be different if you first paste then beam and first beam then paste.[604]
  • Clone Form beam, also called Copy: The Clone Form spell allows Ellen to fire an invisible beam from the palm of her hand, and take the form of whoever is hit.[267]
    • Taking on another human's form would also grant Ellen that person's voice, while taking on an animal's form still allows her to speak with her own. If the target wears some sort of clothing, Ellen's is also transformed to match. She can revert into her own form, along with any transformed clothing, at will.[268]
    • Clone form can't copy special abilities, with the weird exception of Guardian form.[605] The same applies for scan (and for TF Gun).
    • Ellen told Greg that "all my other beams" (except the FV5) have cool down times between shots.[306] That suggest that 1) clone form has cool down 2) there is at least one other beam spell she had at that point. It might been the "other female" beams, but we don't know in which order she got the spells.
    • Clone form CAN be used to stack two beam of same type on Ellen, by casting one on someone, then copy him and casting one on herself.[606]
  • Scan beam: scans target person. Supposed to be used with Paste beam.[607] It simply fails to scan enchanted target.[606]
  • Paste beam: transform target to look like last scanned person. Unlike clone form does not changes clothes, which can result in wardrobe malfunction. Multiple people can be transformed without repeating the scan.[607]
  • Fusion Paste beam: is alternative to paste beam ; it will transform target to form mixing the scan target and fusion target. Interestingly, the sex is not mixed but depends on which hand Ellen uses for Fusion Paste beam (left means sex matches fusion target, right means sex matches scan target).[608]
  • Melting Pot beam: Produces two invisible beams, one from the palm of each hand, and transforms Ellen into a form that blends the two targets. As with Fusion Paste, the sex of the combined form matches that of the left-hand beam target.

Grace exception[]

Note that all Ellen's spells work by enchanting a person, and the clothing change is a side effect of that. This usually doesn't make a difference except with Grace who, like any Uryuom-related individual, does not become enchanted, gains a new form instead and does not get clothing changed.[609] To change Grace's clothes, the clothes themselves would need to be targeted, which is something Rhoda can do but not Ellen.

Non-transformation spells[]

  • Flashlight, while technically beam,[596] doesn't transform anyone - it will just make light. Which can be actually much more practical than the transformations.[610]

Santa Ellen[]

Santa Ellen appeared first in EGS Sketchbook Comic for 2002-12-22, but then took shape with several sketchbook jokes[4][611][612][613][614] on the topic of Ellen dressing like Santa and transforming people with her FV5 beam on Christmas. Combined with various Ellen-as-Santa with Nanase sketchbooks,[614][615][616][617][618][619][620][621] she became a Christmas tradition that lasted until 2015 after which Dan stopped doing Christmas strips. Santa Ellen reappeared for the 2019 Christmas Strip.[622]

There was also a couple of Christmases with Ellen not dressed as Santa.[623][624]

Trivia[]

  • Ellen inherited Elliot's taste in movies, and thinks his favorite actor (Jason D. Poit) is very "yummy".[94]
  • Although Ellen didn't attend Greg's martial arts class when it existed officially, she has been seen training on her own in the Dunkel house basement.[625]
  • According to various characters, Ellen's family tree looks something like this: Elliot is Ellen's brother/'mother', whilst Tedd is her 'father', which would make Grace her 'adoptive mother', and Nanase her 'aunt': the Dewitchery Diamond being the doctor that delivered Ellen. However, since the introduction of Magus and the explanation of his abilities, it has been said that Tedd is not Ellen's 'father', and therefore Ellen is not dating her 'aunt'.
  • Ellen also had singing lessons in her alternate life[149] with Tedd, Archie & Kaoli; her talent is first revealed when she scores 100% on the karaoke machine.[189]
  • Ellen is still affected by FV5 side-effects except the pheromones:[91] that includes increased libido, set height and body hair removal.[626]
  • Ellen no longer has energy buildups: she stopped getting them during "The mystery of were-goat" when she spent few days outside the town (Moperville).[627]
  • Ellen's first and middle name are a gender-swapped versions of Elliot's first and middle name, which are reversal of Daniel Elliot Shive's first and middle name.
