"JACKASSES!"
—many, many times.

Catalina Bobcat is one of Susan's friends from school.  She is in the feminist club and, as Susan used to, holds the belief that all men are "jackasses" until proven otherwise. She is a wild, obnoxious girl and was frequently getting detention because of her loud mouth and disregard for authority: the "jackasses" is her favourite curse because she was getting in trouble for any others.[2]

She is lesbian and proud of it.[3] She is dating Rhoda.

History[]

Backstory[]

Catalina used to play sports with boys, but they asked her out and didn't take her rejection well, which made it hard for Catalina to trust boys.[4]

Susan Draws The Line[]

When the students turned on Susan for opposing the school uniforms for the wrong reasons, Catalina yelled at them[5] and Principal Verrückt threatened her with detention.[6] After the confrontation Catalina talked with Susan and her friends about how she trusted Tedd and Elliot as they were Susan's friends. She annoyed Tedd by putting her arms on his shoulder.[7]

Sister II[]

After half of the feminist club (four girls) left because they were never really interested in feminism and they decided the club (or Susan) got so unpopular it could affect them negatively,[8] Catalina comforted her by saying that they could recruit new members.[9] Catalina then asked Susan out,[10] which Susan turned down because she saw herself as straight,[11] but Susan later regret that she didn't go.[12]

When Tedd supported Susan in her fight against uniforms, Catalina hugged him.[13][2]

Catalina later told Susan that a news crew was at the school. Susan brought Catalina with her[14] so they were interviewed by Carol Brown together.[15] After the interview Susan said that she wanted to hang out with Catalina, even just as friend.[16]

Hammerchlorians[]

Catalina visited Salty Crackers Comics with Susan.[17][18] She uses plastic hammer (probably Thor merchandise) on Rich and Larry when Susan's hammers fail to work.[19]

Death Sentence[]

Catalina saved Rhoda from the boar.[20][21] They were interviewed about the attack by Carol.[22]

Summer[]

Catalina and Rhoda started dating. When Catalina visited the video rental store, a conversation with Susan led to Susan realizing that she had a date[23] and Catalina told her that her girlfriend was in the closet but let slip that her girlfriend is someone she had helped save.[3]

Escape From The Mall[]

When Catalina and Rhoda were at the mall before Halloween, Pandora gave Catalina a magic mark.[24][25] The spell from the mark made her a catgirl.[26] Catalina and Rhoda didn't notice her transformation[27] until she put her hand on her tail.[28] She said that they had to leave the mall before trying to change back[29] because she worried that she might turn everyone at the mall into catgirls instead.[30] They saw a group of anime cosplayers[31] so Catalina fled into a dressing room with Rhoda and asked her to shrink her to hide her.[32] Thus Rhoda shrunk Catalina[33] and hid her beneath her jacket.[34] After Rhoda saw Diane and Lucy[35] she disguised herself.[36] The disguise spell changed Catalina too[37] and it created a link caused all spells affecting them to affect both of them as long as it was active.[38] Thus Catalina grew and Rhoda shrunk so that Catalina couldn't hide[39] and Rhoda turned into a catgirl.[40] They ran away.[41] They were chased by Kitty.[42] They made it into a dressing room[43] and changed back to normal.[44] Then Pandora materialized a note about their magic along with Rhoda's spellbook.[45][46]

Identity[]

In Identity, Catalina believed the rumor that Elliot broke up with Sarah because he is gay.[47] After she learned that it was only a rumor based on the speculation of one internet video commenter (Ronin)[48][49] Catalina resolved to atone for spreading the rumor by her own attempt to convince people that Elliot is not gay: by glomping and kissing him[50] and claiming to be in a relationship with him.[51] Only after Elliot explained to her that it was not a good idea she remembered dating Rhoda.[52][53] She apologized.[54]

Related to this incident, we see that Grace knew about Rhoda dating Catalina.[55] Based on Grace knowing, both Ellen and Elliot suspected that as well but didn't really know.[56]

Squirrel Prophet[]

In Squirrel Prophet II, Grace remembered from her dream that Catalina was marked by Pandora[57] with powers which complete her transformation into catgirl (she was already close to catgirl even without ears and tail, and this was played with in Sister II cover[58]).

So A Date At The Mall[]

Catalina saw Cheerleadra in mall with Ashley during the confrontation with Tara[59] and her reaction to Voltaire outing Elliot suggests she's convinced Elliot is Cheerleadra now.[60]

Balance[]

One night while walking home from a movie, Catalina and Rhoda were chased[61] by Luke's friends, including Camdin[62] after Luke warned them because he was scared by Rhoda's magic aura.[63] They decided to use an emergency plan that Catalina had previously suggested as a joke:[62] Catalina turned into a catgirl to scare the group chasing them.[64] Camdin and the others fled and Camdin knocked over Luke while fleeing.[62]

The following nights Catalina had trouble sleeping because of excitement over the incident[65][66] and on the next morning at school she was in a good mood for the same reasons.[67] When Susan started a conversion about what magic they would have based on their personality in order to find out if Catalina has magic,[68] Catalina, who was sure that Susan couldn't know about her magic,[69] revealed nothing but said that the notion that she would have cat magic is boring and instead suggested sonic magic.[70] Sarah suggested that dog magic would suit her. Catalina suggested ice magic for Susan.[71]

Double Date[]

When Diane and Lucy started a romantic relationship, Rhoda came out to them[72] and decided to go on a double date.[73]

Before the double date, Rhoda told Catalina that Diane and Lucy liked going on bowling dates and that bowling isn't as good for dates as they think.[74] Catalina suggested that they should go bowling to make Diane and Lucy comfortable.[75]

Before they met Diane and Lucy, Rhoda told Catalina that Diane has a genius detective mind.[76] When the two couples met, Catalina greeted Lucy and Diane enthusiastically.[77]

When Catalina and Lucy were talking about what bowling balls to use, Lucy held one ball in each hand and Catalina was impressed by her strength but Lucy tried to pretend that it was hard.[78] Catalina asked if she was trying to hide her strength and Lucy explained that she was worrying about being intimidating.[79] Catalina reassured Lucy that she and Rhoda liked Lucy for being strong and protective.[80] When Catalina told Rhoda that she had told Lucy the nice things that Rhoda had told her about Lucy, Rhoda was so embarrassed[81] that she ran away[82] because she thought Catalina had told Lucy that she (Rhoda) would like to use her magic to become tall and to make other people short.[83] Catalina followed her[82] and clarified that she hadn't told Lucy that.[84]

Dave, one of Camdin's friends who chased Catalina and Rhoda previously, saw them during the double date and reported it to Camdin.[85] Camdin decided to apologise to them,[86] but when Camdin and Dave approached Lucy and Diane,[87] Rhoda and Catalina weren't there, and when Camdin and Dave learned that the girls were on a double date, they decided to leave them alone.[88]

When Catalina and Rhoda returned, Diane and Lucy told them that they had met two men they used to date, whose names they had forgotten.[89] Catalina was horrified by the thought of her and Rhoda forgetting each other.[90] Diane and Lucy were embarrassed and explained how their casual dating habits came about.[91] Catalina apologised for sounding like she was judging them and said that she was happy for their relationship; Diane and Lucy realised that they had worried too much about making a good impression on Catalina.[92] Diane asked Catalina if anyone had asked her out before she dated Rhoda and Catalina told her that several boys who used to be her friends asked her out and took her rejection badly.[4]

Before the two couples started bowling, Catalina worried that they might not have time to get to know each other while bowling.[93] Thus she suggested that they should tell each other about themselves after every frame, and that anyone who got a gutterball should tell the others something embarrassing. Rhoda was shocked by the suggestion[94] (presumably because it made her think of revealing her magic, which she didn't want to do) but didn't voice her objection, and Catalina didn't speak up for her as she didn't want to be patronizing.[95] Before she threw her first ball, Catalina complained that the bowling shoes were slippery. She hoped she would get gutterballs so she could say what she was planning to say, but she didn't want to get gutterballs on purpose, so she decided to play riskily in the hopes that it would increase her chances for both strikes and gutterballs.[96] She scored a strike in the first frame[97] and another in her second frame.[98]

In her third frame Catalina slipped and fell head first towards the floor.[99] Rhoda shrank Catalina, enlarged her hair and kept her jacket the same size to cushion her[100] and, after Catalina had landed on the floor, changed her back to normal.[101] She pretended to be confused but Lucy didn't believe her.[102] Rhoda confirmed to Diane and Lucy that she had used magic.[103] Catalina noticed that Diane wasn't as surprised as expected and assumed that she has already figured it out with her detective ability, and she didn't know that Diane had heard about Grace's dreams saying that Rhoda and Catalina have magic.[104] Rhoda suggested that they should defer discussion anbout magic to later. Lucy told Catalina that she got a gutterball and Catalina joked that this was her embarrassing thing.[105] Then Lucy told the others that she had taken lessons in medieval swordfighting, which made Catalina surprised and impressed.[106]

Parable[]

At an unknown time Catalina was pulled into a magical shared dream with several other people by a unicorn. In the dream she met Rhoda at a pub and stopped her from ordering a pitcher of whiskey.[107] Rhoda, who came from a sheltered background in the dream,[108] asked Catalina to show her the town.[109] While they were walking around the town, Rhoda suggested that it could be a date[110] and Catalina agreed to dating.[111] When Rhoda went back to her mentor, the seer, Catalina followed her.[112] When Susan needed to train stealth for a mission (the dream was a video game parody) Catalina helped her.[113][114] When the seer was planning to use Rhoda and Susan for a wish ritual,[115] he sent Catalina on an errand to get her out of the way.[116] While they were away Catalina was found by the unicorn.[117] The unicorn brought Catalina with him when he found the others.[118] When the unicorn tried to interrogate Rhoda about who she was, Jay woke herself up, ending the shared dream.[119][120][121]

Relationships[]

Susan[]

Catalina character was originally developed backwards from single event: as "a girl who asks Susan out"[10] (since then, she was expanded, of course). The "asking out" didn't go well, but Susan later regret that she didn't go and decided to hang out with Catalina, even just as friend.[16]

Rhoda[]

In Death Sentence, she saved Rhoda from the boar.[122] Apparently, they started dating, although Rhoda is trying to keep it secret[23] ... which is apparently very hard for Catalina.[3] (I think that after this, we can assume Susan knows.)

Related to the kissing Elliot incident,[51] we see that Grace knows about Rhoda dating Catalina. Based on Grace knowing, both Ellen and Elliot suspect that as well but don't really know.[56]

They were kissing in dressing rooms in mall,[123] possibly regularly.

Abilities[]

In Squirrel Prophet part 2, Grace remembers details from her dream indicating that Catalina was marked by Pandora[57] with powers which actualize her transformation into a real catgirl (she was already close to looking like a catgirl even without cat ears and tail, as mentioned by Elliot[124] and played with in the Sister II cover[58]).

In the canon NP stories Marker and Escape From The Mall she was marked[125][126] and transformed into a catgirl,[127] so Grace's dream was accurate.
